2025 NFL Week 1 odds: Divisional drama highlights opening week
If there's ever any doubt about how much NFL odds captivate the American sports betting masses, that uncertainty is put to rest each May.
The schedule comes out, and eager bettors jump on NFL Week 1 odds, even though the games are 4.5 months away.
Of course, the NFL includes several marquee matchups, which appeal to bettors.
Following the May 14 release of the 2025-26 schedule, one game in particular stands out to Joey Feazel, head of football trading for Caesars Sportbook.
"The Sunday night game, Ravens vs. Bills, is obviously a huge matchup," Feazel said. "That's the one that we're most looking forward to."
But there are plenty more. Feazel helps dive into very early action in NFL Week 1 betting.
Divisional Drama
The 2025-26 season opens on Thursday, Sept. 4, with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Then on Friday, Sept. 5, it's the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.
"It's surprising to see the NFL go with divisional rivalries in these first two games," Feazel said.
Last year, Thursday's season opener pitted the Chiefs vs. the Ravens, and the first-ever Brazil game had the Eagles meeting the Green Bay Packers. Two seasons ago, the Chiefs hosted the Detroit Lions in the first game of the season.
This time around, though, it's divisional matchups. And the prime-time opener is one of the more popular games, with Philly a 7-point favorite.
"Cowboys-Eagles is taking some action on Dallas +7," Feazel said. "The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl win, and they lost a couple of players on defense. They also lost offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who's now the head coach of the Saints.
"So we're seeing some Cowboys' money on the spread."
As for the K.C. vs. L.A. neutral-site showdown, the Chiefs are modest 2.5-point favorites in Caesars' NFL Week 1 odds.
"We're getting some Chiefs action, both on the moneyline and on the spread," Feazel said, while noting Kansas City will be a liability for oddsmakers in several spots this season. "There will be a lot of big decisions betting on the Chiefs this year, because they have eight standalone games. So that's a lot of sweats for Caesars Sportsbook."
NFL Rocks on FOX
Another divisional game that will draw some eyeballs and betting attention: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns on opening Sunday, Sept. 7. FOX will air this AFC North clash, in which there's no question that Joe Burrow will be the Bengals quarterback but a lot of questions about who's under center for the Browns.
Deshaun Watson is recovering from an Achilles tear. Joe Flacco returned this offseason as a free agent and Kenny Pickett arrived via a trade with the Eagles.
From there, it gets much more interesting. The Browns selected Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, then came back and took Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, with the Colorado QB stunningly sliding way down the draft board.
"That's a QB battle that will be talked about throughout the summer," Feazel said. "Flacco is gonna be serviceable, and Pickett is a QB they paid for to be a backup.
"It'll be a fun QB competition. But I don't expect it to be Sanders or Gabriel. I don't think they'll throw either rookie QB out there in Week 1."
The Bengals are 5.5-point road favorites on opening Sunday.
Another Divisional Duel
The Detroit Lions visit the Green Bay Packers in a Week 1 NFC North battle. Detroit is coming off a stunning upset loss to Washington in the NFC Divisional Round.
That's not all the Lions lost. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left to take over as Chicago Bears head coach, and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn did likewise for the New York Jets.
"There's still a massive amount of talent on that team. We'll see how much of an impact Johnson and Glenn had," Feazel said.
It's a toss-up of a game at Lambeau Field, with Green Bay a 1-point home favorite.
"There's not a lot of action yet, and I don't blame bettors. It's a very close matchup and should be a very good game," Feazel said.
Sunday Night Showdown
As Feazel noted above, Ravens vs. Bills top the NFL Week 1 oddsboard. Buffalo is a 1.5-point home favorite.
"It's a massive matchup," he said. "Action-wise, it's pretty balanced. There's been a little sharp money on the Under."
That said, the Ravens-Bills game has the highest point total of any Week 1 game, at 52 points. So, fireworks are certainly expected when the past two NFL MVPs square off. Bills' QB Josh Allen was named MVP last season, a year after Ravens' QB Lamar Jackson nabbed his second MVP award.

He had also been the team's offensive coordinator for four years and played quarterback in the silver and blue for eight more. Yes, his visit with Quinn on Tuesday was much more in keeping with his current job as an NBC analyst, but it still must have been strange for Commanders players to look over during their practice and see the longtime enemy standing there wearing Cowboys colors. Most Washington players, anyway. A few will remember him from their own time in Dallas; Garrett coached Commanders wide receivers Noah Brown and Michael Gallup for multiple seasons, as well as defensive end Dorance Armstrong. And Garrett was a Cowboys teammate of Washington's current linebackers coach, Ken Norton, Jr., for the 1993 season that ended with both men earning a Super Bowl ring. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel delivers brutally honest take on star cornerback Jalen Ramsey's trade situation
The Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey mutually agreed to explore trade options heading into the 2025 season, but that was almost two months ago. While no deal has been made, head coach Mike McDaniel doesn't seem worried, concerned or any other adjective about Ramsey's situation. "I don't give a s--- about what I feel," he said when asked his thoughts on the trade dilemma. "I don't even really go down that road of, 'How do I feel about it?' My job is to react and control my controllables and make sure that people are moving in one direction appropriately." McDaniel spoke during his team's opening day of mandatory minicamp, where Ramsey wasn't present, as expected. He has elected to remain away from the Dolphins until his situation is resolved. It's a bit surprising to see the 30-year-old not be dealt over the past two months given he's on the market. Ramsey is a seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro who continues to play at a high level at the cornerback position. But when you look at the financials, perhaps it makes sense why the Dolphins remain the team employing Ramsey. He signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension just one season ago, meaning teams would have to carry a heavy cap hit to trade for Ramsey, unless some sort of financial package can be reached in the process with Miami. As a result, McDaniel is simply focused on the roster he has present at his minicamp. He enters his fourth year on the job, and he could be on the hot seat if Miami doesn't turn things around after an 8-9 season. Of course, quarterback play is a large factor in teams winning and losing, and it didn't help that Tua Tagovailoa suffered yet another concussion that had him out early in the season. McDaniel's offense requires precise timing and accuracy, and Tagovailoa has thrived in that atmosphere when healthy. But the Dolphins couldn't keep things afloat with him out, and when Tagovailoa returned, they weren't able to make a run into the playoffs. McDaniel will hope the 2025 campaign is more like 2023, when the Dolphins went 11-6 to reach the playoffs. They play in a tough AFC East division, where the New England Patriots got better in all facets and the New York Jets have a dual-threat quarterback leading the way in Justin Fields. And, of course, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are still the team to beat. So, McDaniel has a lot to worry about in terms of getting his team prepared for a hopeful playoff run, and he's clearly letting it be known he doesn't have time for players who wanted to be traded. "The business is business – the opportunity that business does provide in the offseason is a rep to the team about handling noise," McDaniel added. "Noise is [something] that don't have to do with what actually you're there to do… Business and offseasons allow you to speak to your team about how the focus of noise is a constant battle that, [to be] successful, you have to win." The Dolphins open their season on the road against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. ET. Trey Hendrickson skips Bengals minicamp seeking new contract
CINCINNATI (AP) — Defensive lineman Trey Hendrickson was not at the opening day of the Cincinnati Bengals minicamp on Tuesday as he seeks a new contract. Hendrickson is expected to be fined for his absence, as coach Zac Taylor warned him about last month. Quarterback Joe Burrow agreed with a question that asked if Hendrickson's absence was a distraction. 'Last year we had two (with wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins working through contract issues), this year we have one. We do have less. Love to have none but that's life in the NFL. We're all supporting Trey and would love for him to be back,' he said. 'The young guys get more reps in training camp, and that's big for them. Nobody is worried about Trey working hard and doing what he needs to do to be ready if we happen to have him this year.' Burrow acknowledged that it's a possibility that the Bengals might not have Hendrickson in 2025. He said that wouldn't make the Bengals a better team, but he doesn't know what's going to happen. Hendrickson was an All-Pro selection last season after he led the league with 17 1/2 sacks. He did make an appearance during an offseason workout last month specifically to speak to reporters and vent his frustrations. Hendrickson is looking for a long-term contract with a significant chunk of guaranteed money, and he said the Bengals were just offering a short-term deal. 'I can't control the narratives,' Hendrickson said at the time. 'That is one thing I found through this whole process. The way I feel is not being conveyed. I definitely am disappointed, I love Cincinnati. It's this weird dilemma. Players go through it a lot more often. I am just not going to let fear overtake me to do something and also give me a platform to glorify God in the good and in the bad. I am very blessed. The perspectives I can't control. I'm a football player. I'm itching to play football.' First-round pick Shemar Stewart, also expected to start at defensive end, hasn't signed his rookie deal yet and did not practice. Stewart has been in attendance for workouts and practices, but he still hasn't done a single drill. He has made a point to sit out for the past two months. Stewart said that he won't practice until he signs. 'I'm 100 percent right,' Stewart said. 'I'm not asking for nothing y'all have never done before. But in y'all case, y'all just want to win arguments (more) than winning more games.' While Burrow did answer some questions about Hendrickson, most of his availability was on his offseason practices. Burrow, who is going into his sixth season, feels as if he is closer to playing at the level he was before suffering a right wrist injury in 2023. Even with Burrow playing at a level he felt like was less than 100%, he led the league in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43) last season. Burrow underwent surgery on his right wrist in November 2023, to repair a torn ligament. The surgery was deemed successful. He missed the last seven games of the 2023 season because of the injury. 'Getting there. Learning new things every single day and refining my motion and what I'm doing out there. It's exciting to feel that improvement,' he said.
