Meta's smartwatch with built-in camera is reportedly launching in September 2025
This isn't Meta's first attempt at launching a smartwatch. The company initially began development back in 2021 under the codename 'Milan,' with prototypes featuring dual cameras and a curved display. One of the versions even had a gold finish and side buttons. But the project was paused in 2022 due to hardware issues and challenges with a nerve-signal control system the company was testing.
According to multiple reports citing supply chain sources, including a story by DigiTimes, the device is being manufactured by Chinese company Huaqin Technology. This time, the focus appears to be more on AI tools and camera functions, rather than fitness tracking or health features like other popular smartwatches from Apple or Samsung.
What can we expect from the new Meta wearable?
The new smartwatch is expected to work closely with Meta's upcoming smart glasses, which are also rumoured to include a built-in display for the first time. Combined, these wearables could allow users to capture images, interact with digital assistants and control their environment using gesture-based or camera-powered tools.
While detailed specs are still under wraps, the smartwatch is not expected to rival devices like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch in terms of health tracking. Instead, it may serve more as an intelligent companion to Meta's broader hardware ecosystem, including its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest VR headsets.
There's no confirmation yet on pricing, battery life or exact features, and it's unclear if the device will launch this year or be teased as a concept at Meta Connect. What's clear is that Meta is trying to create a more unified wearable experience that blends AI, smart glasses and real-time camera interaction into something more ambitious than a traditional wristwatch.

On Monday, the government announced a policy that will provide the parents of children under the age of three an annual subsidy of 3,600 yuan (reportedly about Rs 41,000). The policy will be implemented on January 1, 2025. Meanwhile, even families with children born in 2022, 2023, or 2024 will still be eligible for partial benefits. The subsidy will be tax-free and excluded from poverty-assistance eligibility calculations. The government estimates that 20 million families could benefit from the new program. According to state media, the handouts will benefit about 20 million families, with the cost of raising children. The plan was revealed on Monday, with parents receiving up to 10800 yuan per child. Beijing's state broadcaster CCTV said the policy will be retroactive to the beginning of the year reported BBC. This comes amid multiple local government initiatives designed to address low birth rates in locations across China. For example, in Hohhot, a city in the northern region of China, parents are receiving support of up to 100,000 yuan per baby for couples with at least three children. The study by the China-based YuWa Population Research Institute found that the average nationwide cost of raising a child from birth to age 17 was about $74,800 – rising to more than $94,500 to support a child through a bachelor's degree, CNN reported. The cost of raising a child to age 18 in China is 6.3 times higher than the country's GDP per capita, the report said – a ratio second only to South Korea, which has the world's lowest fertility rate, and where the cost of child-rearing is 7.79 times the GDP per capita, CNN reported.

APSRTC urged to replace outdated ticketing machines before free bus travel scheme rollout
Vijayawada: AP public transport dept (RTC) employees have urged the govt to replace the outdated unified ticketing system machines ahead of rolling out the free bus travel scheme for women passengers in govt-run buses from Aug 15 in the state. They said the existing ticket issuing machines (TIMS), which are over three years old, are creating manifold problems for conductors while issuing tickets, with issues like inadequate battery backup, hardware/motherboard problems, and touch screen issues. The bus conductors, in many instances, are forced to issue manual tickets to passengers as the substandard paper roll and ink quantity supplied to TIMS machines do not give properly printed tickets. APSRTC has around 14,000 TIMS devices procured from E-Bix, a Chinese firm, for which the govt pays a monthly rent of Rs 680 for each device. "The govt plans to roll out the free bus travel scheme for women across the state from Aug 15. Following the launch of the scheme, APSRTC buses will see more number of passengers, particularly women.
