Metro trial run in Thane likely in September and operations by December: Shinde

Thane: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said efforts were underway to conduct the trial run of the much-awaited Metro service in Thane next month, and its full-fledged operations are likely to begin by December this year.Once the project is completed, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) would enjoy seamless Metro connectivity, with last-mile and end-to-end commute solutions, Shinde told reporters after inaugurating the Thane Varsha Marathon."Efforts are on to conduct the trial run of the Metro in Thane in September. After that, we are working on launching the actual services by December. The work is progressing on a war-footing," he said.He also said the preliminary work on Thane's internal Metro network has begun. "This will be linked to the main Metro lines to provide integrated transport facilities," he added.Referring to broader infrastructure plans, the deputy CM said the freeway extension from Mumbai to Thane would ease traffic congestion and divert services to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) away from the city.Mandate has been given to the collector, municipal chief and police commissioner to make Thane traffic congestion-free, he said."They are working towards it, and soon Thane city will be free from traffic jams," Shinde asserted.Highlighting the recent development works in Thane, Shinde mentioned the rejuvenation of Jogila Lake, which had been encroached upon by nearly 250 huts."We have relocated the people who encroached the area and freed the lake. This is perhaps the first such project in the country where a lake has been completely restored and encroachments removed," he said.On the Thane Varsha Marathon, organised by the Thane Municipal Corporation in collaboration with several sports organisations after a long gap, Shinde said more than 25,000 participants joined the run, underscoring the city's enthusiasm for community events.He also praised the patriotism of wrestler-turned-politician and Shiv Sena leader Chandrahar Patil as well as his team from Kolhapur, who have gone to the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir to donate blood for soldiers. Bengaluru Metro: BJP's Munirathna asks why Bettahalasuru station was dropped, DK Shivakumar slams MLA's ‘selfish motive'
BJP MLA Munirathna and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar locked horns in the state Assembly Tuesday over the alleged dropping of Bettahalasuru station which is part of Phase 2B of the Bengaluru Metro project. Phase 2B, also known as the Blue line, is a key link to Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. Shivakumar, in his response to Munirathna during Question Hour in the House, stated that the Bettahalasuru station was dropped after real estate major Embassy Group failed to fund its construction as per an earlier agreement. The station was originally included in the 2018 DPR which was forwarded to the Centre. The state also acquired land for the project after the Embassy Group committed to funding the station's construction at a cost of Rs 120 crore. However, according to Shivakumar, the group has paid only Rs 1 crore so far. Raising the issue in the Assembly, MLA Munirathna questioned how a private entity's funding failure could stall a public infrastructure project. 'This station serves the public, not private interests. Land acquisition and DPR approval are complete. The government must act to protect public interest,' he said, adding that local MLA Krishna Byre Gowda had also written to Shivakumar underlining the station's importance. 'MLA Munirathna has 70-80 acres of land in the area' Shivakumar, however, hit back stating that Munirathna owned 70-80 acres of land around the station, which is why he insisted on developing it. 'As per norms, it is allowed to name the station after a company if they sponsor the construction with CSR funds. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi praised the model and Opposition leader (R) Ashoka was also there. Munirathna has about 70-80 acres of land there and hence he needs a Metro station,' the deputy chief minister said. To which Munirathna quipped, 'If DCM D K Shivakumar makes a call to Embassy builders, they will make the payment in 24 hours. Builders in Bengaluru only listen to him.' Replying to him, Shivakumar stated, 'Self-interest is natural. The Embassy (Group) has about 250 acres and they were willing to pay Rs 120 crore of the total cost of Rs 140 crore to brand the Metro station there. They have given only Rs 1 crore till now. We will build the station and name it after Munirathna if he pays for it.' The controversy comes even as Embassy Group, through Vikas Telecom Pvt Ltd, which is part of Embassy Office Parks REIT, is funding the Rs 100-crore construction of the Kadubeesanahalli station on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor under Phase 2A of the Metro project. The station, to be named 'Embassy Tech Village Kadubeesanahalli Metro Station,' is part of a 17-km stretch from Central Silk Board to KR Puram with 16 stations.

Lucknow Metro Phase-1B Gets Green Light, Here's Everything You Need To Know

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that the approval of Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project will prove to be a milestone in the development journey of the state. Adityanath's statement came after the Union Cabinet on Tuesday gave its nod to Phase-IB of the Lucknow Metro project with a corridor length of 11.165 km at a cost of Rs 5,801 crore. In a post on X in Hindi, Adityanath said, 'It is the result of the successful guidance of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and your constant support that Uttar Pradesh is today moving on an unprecedented development journey. 'This approval of Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project will prove to be a milestone in the development journey of the state. Heartfelt thanks to the Honourable Defence Minister." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, in a post on X, said the corridor expansion 'will be a boon for the daily commuters who face congestion in the old city area." 'I thank the Prime Minister for this progressive and people-friendly decision. I also thank the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath ji and Minister of Urban and Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Shri Manohar Lal for the proposed metro extension in Lucknow," he added. According to the government, on operationalisation of Phase-1B, Lucknow will have 34 km of active Metro rail network. In a statement, the government said that Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project represents a significant advancement in the city's infrastructure development, marking a major expansion of the Metro rail network in the state capital. The new corridor will introduce approximately 11.165 km of new Metro lines with 12 stations — seven underground and five elevated — improving public transportation in the oldest and the most densely populated areas of the city, which currently lack efficient connectivity, the statement said. This phase aims to seamlessly integrate the key zones of Old Lucknow, including commercial hubs such as Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj and Chowk, it said.
