Real Madrid set to scout €50 million-rated former academy ace in high-profile encounter

According to a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are closely tracking Alvaro Carreras, the Spanish left-back currently making waves at Benfica.
In fact, representatives from the club are reportedly in Lisbon to observe him during the high-stakes derby clash between Benfica and Sporting CP, underlining just how serious Los Blancos are about strengthening their left side of defence.

The 22-year-old Carreras, who was once part of Real Madrid's youth academy, has enjoyed a strong season in Portugal, establishing himself as a reliable and dynamic full-back for Benfica.
His performances have naturally drawn interest, especially from a Madrid side desperate for solutions after underwhelming seasons from both Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
There will problems
Despite being under contract at Benfica until 2029, Real Madrid have not ruled out a move. However, the Portuguese side are demanding a steep €50 million fee, a valuation Madrid see as excessive.

Still, club officials have reportedly devised a clever workaround strategy to reduce that cost significantly. As reported before, Real Madrid plan to involve Manchester United, who still hold an €18 million buy-back clause for Carreras after selling him to Benfica for €6 million.

Madrid's idea is to convince United to trigger their clause, bringing Carreras back to Old Trafford.
Once he is back in England, Real Madrid would negotiate directly with United to sign him for a fee in the region of €30–35 million, a substantial saving compared to Benfica's asking price.
However, it must be noted that while Carreras remains a top option, he is not the only name on Real Madrid's radar. Ajax's highly-rated Jorrel Hato is also being considered.
Like Carreras, Hato offers youth, technical quality, and positional flexibility, traits highly valued by Madrid's current recruitment team.

Manchester United boost profit forecast after Europa League run lifts ticket sales

(Reuters) -Manchester United raised their annual core profit forecast on Friday as the club's strong performance in the Europa League drove ticket sales and broadcast revenue. United forecast adjusted core profit of between 180 million pounds ($244 million) and 190 million pounds for the year ending June, up from an earlier projection of between 145 million and 160 million pounds. Ticket sales jumped more than 50% to 44.5 million pounds in the three months to March as the club had a good run in the Europa League, before losing the finals to Tottenham Hotspur. United had their worst Premier League season since they were relegated in 1974 and hopes of participating in a European competition next season were dashed after they lost the Europa League final. "We had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards and we have a clear expectation of improvement next season," CEO Omar Berrada said in a statement. United's absence from European competitions, which are lucrative sources of broadcasting revenue, deals a huge blow to the club's future finances and has drawn anger and disappointment from fans worldwide. Jim Ratcliffe, who holds a stake of about 29% in the club and runs their football operations, has taken steps to revive the club's fortunes, including by cutting jobs, raising ticket prices and stopping free lunches at staff canteens. Those benefits are expected to be realised from the first quarter of the new fiscal year starting July, the club said on Friday. United reported a net loss of 2.7 million pounds for the three months ended March 31, compared with a loss of 71.5 million pounds a year earlier. David Beckham to be knighted in King's Birthday Honours list

David Beckham is set to receive a knighthood in the King's upcoming Birthday Honours list, Sky News understands. The former England football captain was awarded an OBE in 2003, on the recommendation of then prime minister Tony Blair, but is now set to receive further recognition. Beckham, who turned 50 in May, would take on the title of Sir and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, would become Lady Beckham. It has been a long-held ambition of Beckham's, and rumours abounded last year he may finally get the honour after he was announced as ambassador to the King's Foundation. Speculation then hit fever pitch in December last year when he attended a state banquet for the first time, alongside his wife. Beckham, who would go by Sir David, met the King last week at the Chelsea Flower show. The monarch was heard asking the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain star, "You got it, didn't you?" Beckham responded: "It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind." The Queen was then heard telling him: "I'm glad you got the roses." Services to football and beyond The footballing legend played 115 times for England before his retirement in 2013. He is the only Englishman to score at three different World Cups. His career included the treble-winning campaign of 1998-99 - when Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. He also played a key role in securing the London 2012 Olympics and has been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005. In 2015, the organisation launched the David Beckham UNICEF Fund. Victoria Beckham received an OBE for services to the fashion industry in 2017. Beckham's 'hacked' honours emails Beckham's hopes of being rewarded for his Olympic efforts in the 2014 honours list were scuppered by an issue with his taxes. HM Revenue and Customs placed a red flag on his nomination due to his involvement in an alleged tax avoidance scheme, according to previous reports. In 2017, details of the footballer's leaked emails were printed in the national press, in which he appeared to criticise the honours system and committee. A spokesperson for the footballer said at the time his emails were "hacked" and "doctored".

Chelsea and Napoli most likely destinations for €55m target on Atletico Madrid shortlist

Manchester United are in the process of another rebuild this summer under Ruben Amorim, and Alejandro Garnacho will not be a part of it. The two have something of a fraught relationship, execerbated by the Argentine's place on the bench in the Europa League final. The Red Devils are in need of funds for their rebuild, and Garnacho is one of the sources of fundraising they hope to be able to count on, with Antony another. According to Caught Offside, Manchester United will be asking for €55m for the signature of the 20-year-old. This season he made a total of 58 appearances, scoring 11 goals and giving 10 assists. Chelsea and Napoli most interested in Garnacho Caught Offside go on to cite Chelsea and Napoli as the two sides that have shown the strongest interest in Garnacho. The former are looking at him as an option, but are also seriously considering a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens. Meanwhile Napoli were interested in a move for Garnacho in January, and are yet to spend the €70m that they received for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the winter transfer window. Garnacho has fallen out of favour at Manchester United. Atletico Madrid monitoring Garnacho situation Their information is that Atletico Madrid are one of three further sides that are keeping a close eye on how things develop, alongside AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, where his former manager Erik ten Hag has just taken over. Garnacho one of several names being looked at Atletico Madrid appear to be prioritising moves for Alex Baena of Villarreal, for whom an agreement is close, and Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero. If Baena does arrive at Atletico, it may reduce United's chances of selling Garnacho to Atletico, given he provides a creative presence that generally likes to cut in from the left. Garnacho can play both sides of the pitch, but it would be two significant investments.
