New Zealand woman arrested after 2-year-old girl found alive in suitcase stowed in bus luggage
The bus driver noticed movement inside the bag during a planned stop at the settlement of Kaiwaka, north of Auckland, after a passenger asked for access to the luggage compartment, Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said in a statement.
When the driver opened the suitcase they discovered the 2-year-old girl, who was very hot but otherwise appeared physically unharmed, Harrison said. Authorities didn't disclose the length of time the toddler was in the baggage compartment or which cities the bus was traveling between.
The child was taken to a hospital, where she remained Sunday night local time.
The arrested woman was charged with ill-treatment or neglect of a child and was due to appear in court Monday. She was not named by law enforcement.
The bus company InterCity confirmed to New Zealand news outlets that the episode involved one of its vehicles. The company does not charge fares for children younger than 3 years, who can travel for free on an adult's lap.

Diaper-wearing 'pedo' arrested for asking girl, 11, and her friend to change him near school in Texas
A man in Texas has been accused of approaching an 11-year-old girl and her friend in a parking lot while wearing only a diaper - with a pacifier around his neck. Wesley Worl, 45, allegedly got out of his truck in the baby-like attire on July 29 as the girls were riding their bikes near Andy Woods Elementary School in Tyler. According to arrest documents, he yelled: 'Goo-goo ga ga! I need a diaper change. Worl was arrested and taken to the Smith County Jail on Thursday, charged with soliciting a minor and criminal trespass. One girl told police that she was frightened and ran into a nearby alley with her friend, according to an affidavit obtained by CBS 19. The friends were trembling and barely able to speak, according to the police officer that interviewed them. They said they encountered a 'scary guy' who said, 'Will you change my diaper for me?' They ran to an adult they recognized, and that adult's son then drove to the area to pick all of them up, according to the affidavit. The responsible adult's son was able to get a partial registration number for the suspect's truck. Police later used that information to link the truck to Worl. Police said Worl matched the description given to them by the minors and he was arrested on Thursday, nine days after the alleged crime. Officials noted that Worl had a sexual fetish for wearing a diaper in public, and he also had a history of sexually preying on girls, aged from eight to 12 years old.

Patrick Mahomes reveals his reaction to dad's shock DWI arrest days before last year's Super Bowl
has admitted for the first time how he was left 'hurt' by his father's DWI arrest before last year's Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback's preparations for their game against the San Francisco 49ers were thrown into chaos when Mahomes Sr, 55, was arrested eight days before the clash in Las Vegas. The former MLB pitcher did make it to the Super Bowl the weekend after the incident and saw his son win his third ring, as the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime. Speaking about the incident for the first time in new ESPN docuseries 'The Kingdom', which airs on August 14, Mahomes said, according to The New York Post: 'It was during that Super Bowl week. It became a story and so I had to answer questions about it. 'I think just knowing that it hurt me, woke him up to know that like you can't keep doing the same things.' Mahomes Sr also agreed to be interviewed for the program and when asked how he felt about his actions affecting his son, he said: 'It kind of hit home before the Super Bowl last year, when I got in trouble. 'For him to have to answer questions about me, you know, was probably the most embarrassing thing that I've ever been through in my life. 'I called him right after. I said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry that it's taken away from your time and focus." I made a vow that he would never have to deal with anything because of drinking because of me. I haven't had a drink since then.' Mahomes' wife Brittany added: 'I think it finally hit him that, you know, "I have my kids watching me, I have my grandkids now that are watching me". He really enjoys watching his son play football and live out his dream.' Footage from the arrest in Tyler, Texas later emerged and showed Mahomes Sr ranting to cops that his arrest would cost his son the Super Bowl. An officer had seen his white Genesis traveling too slowly as he went west in the 1100 block of W. Gentry. Cops ran his registration - which had expired in September 2022 and he had an open can of beer in the car alongside him when police pulled him over. 'Are y'all serious?' Mahomes Sr. can be heard saying: 'I'm supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we're doing? 'Can I say one thing? My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I've had some drinks. But he can't have this right now. Listen, this can't happen. 'Dude. This is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl and I'm doing interviews -- five or six a day. And then, now, this s***'s going to be on the news which is going to f*** with him, and it's probably going to f*** him up.' 'And he probably won't win the Super Bowl. But that's fine. If that's what y'all want to do, that's good.' Mahomes Sr later received a five-year probation sentence over the incident. He last played baseball in 2003 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, but in recent times has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. He was also arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2008 and 2019, and last year was banned from driving after being found on the roads without a valid license. Mahomes Sr spent 10 days in jail and has been under 'intense supervision' in his first year of probation.
