Actress Brianne Howey has had her fair share of viral moments on TikTok and Instagram for her role in Netflix's
Ginny & Georgia . Howey's portrayal of Georgia, a young, sometimes morally ambiguous mum of two with a charming southern accent and fierce drive to protect her kids has been lauded by many as 'iconic' while others, like Howey, found the character overbearing and 'unhinged' – until she became a mother herself.

'Prior to having a child, of course, I thought many of the Georgia-isms were absolutely insane and unhinged and over the top, and why is she taking up so much space?' she told People in a recent interview. 'Now that I have a child, I am so obsessed with her that I understand why Georgia is so obsessed with Ginny, and my heart only got bigger and I just have even more respect for all the mums out there.' Howey welcomed her daughter with her husband Matt Ziering in 2023.

In spite of her very convincing southern accent on Ginny & Georgia, Howey was actually born and raised in La Cañada Flintridge, California, by a single mother.
The 36-year-old's childhood helped shape her role in the Netflix show. In an interview with Byrdie in 2021, Howey said, 'There's a lot of my mum in Georgia. I grew up with a super young single mum. She had me at 21, so we had a similar relationship. She wasn't stealing money from my school or anything like that [laughs]. But Georgia is a survivalist. And that's something I relate to and something my mum related to. It's not something I see on paper a ton, especially for such a young woman who already has kids and lived such a life at 30.'
Her acting career

Growing up, Howey had wanted to become a flight attendant, but things changed when she joined her high school's improv team and fell in love with acting. 'I did it after school, and it started consuming all of my time,' Howey said in an interview with ClicheMag in 2015. 'In college, I started looking at it in a different lens.'

Sly Stone, frontman for Sly and the Family Stone, dead at 82

Funk master and iconic music innovator Sly Stone, whose songs drove a civil rights-inflected soul explosion in the 1960s, sparking influential albums but also a slide into drug addiction, has died, his family said on Monday. He was 82. Stone was the multi-instrumentalist frontman for Sly and the Family Stone – rock's first racially integrated, mixed-gender line-up. He 'passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his closest friend and his extended family,' after a prolonged battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other health issues, Stone's family said in a statement. 'While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come,' it added. Why Jimmy O. Yang ‘feels like Blackpink', and his rise from Uber driver to king of comedy

Back in 2014, between the first and second seasons of the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley in which he had a supporting role, Jimmy O. Yang spent his days moonlighting as an Uber driver. Advertisement The Hong Kong-born Hollywood hopeful used a pay cheque for his role in the series as Jian-Yang – he received the Screen Actors Guild minimum of US$900 a day – to buy a used Toyota Prius hybrid, which he would drive around Los Angeles to earn the money to pay his rent. 'You never know, especially as an actor, where your next pay cheque comes from,' he tells the Post. Only when he was promoted to a series regular did he finally feel he had the safety net he had long desired. 'At least now all my rent will be paid for,' he recalls thinking. Fast forward a decade and O. Yang has achieved the rarefied success that eludes many Asian actors in Hollywood . It was a long time coming. Jimmy O. Yang as Jian-Yang in Silicon Valley. Three years later, he starred as the main love interest in Love Hard, and finally became number one on the call sheet for the action comedy series Interior Chinatown, which premiered last year on Hulu and Disney+ to rave reviews. Yang into the social media spotlight.
