Willie Mullins retirement question met with chilling warning but that isn't what punters are talking about
Danny Mullins has sent a chilling warning to the rest of jump racing that uncle Willie's unbelievable hunger is still firmly intact.
And the popular jockey admits he'd love to wear the Closutton crown one day and be No.1 for the all-powerful Irish yard.
As the days of summer begin to end, horse-racing focus is beginning to turn towards the return of the National Hunt and the 2025/26 campaign.
Master trainer Mullins is the king in both the UK and Ireland having won both titles again last season and his might has seen him dominate the biggest events for the last few years.
Nephew Danny has ridden plenty of his top-class winners and, as the rest of the yards attempt to reach the lofty bar, he says his uncle isnt going anywhere anytime soon.
Speaking on Luck on Sunday, he said: 'He's just got unbelievable hunger and, I said it before, where Willie always says in sport you're never on a level plateau.
"You're either going up or down and you just have to have that hunger where you want to keep going up, And I think, well I hope, for my sake anyway, that he wants to do it for plenty more. There's no sign of him stopping at any time soon.'
Jockey Mullins enjoyed another superb season last term racking up major wins with an ability to take rides for other trainers such as Jospeh O'Brien.
Of course, the opportunity to be the main man for Willie is a job that any individual would want, but that's not an option at the moment.
The outstanding Paul Townend is currently the first pick for Mullins and has been in sensational form in recent years meaning his position is secure.
But Danny harbours ambitions one day and, sporting a colourful new hairstyle on the TV show which was quickly noticed by viewers, he said: 'I'd definitely love to wear the crown and ride all the best horses, but is there another job in racing where you're probably not tied down all the time, so you can get plenty of big spare rides and still regularly ride Grade 1 winners through the year?
"I was lucky enough this year when JJ Slevin was injured I had a good association with Joseph O'Brien and that reaped plenty of reward, Grade 1 success. And I have that freedom to do that. But, you know, I'd still love to be riding all the Willies horses.'
Mullins joked: 'I don't think I'm going to bump off Paul anytime soon! I'd love to see Paul ride off into the sunset, but we're we're a similar age so I'd imagine he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
"We would have ridden on the pony racing circuit together so we came through and you know he maybe went jumping earlier than me. I had my few years on the flat, but we've pretty much grown up in the game together.'

Brown expects 'quality' from teenage Celtic duo
Scott Brown is expecting 19-year-old Celtic midfielders Jude Bonnar and Kyle Ure "to add quality" to his Ayr United side on loan this made his third appearance as the former Celtic midfielder's side lost 2-1 in their final Premier Sports Cup group game away to St Mirren on Brown credited the half-time substitute with helping turn the game in the Championship side's favour after going into the break two goals down to their top-flight hosts."The change of shape and personnel helped and I thought Jude coming into the middle of the park was exceptional and that helped us keep the ball - also a bit of urgency and aggresseness as well," he told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound."Coming from Celtic to come in and play for us like that, it looks like he's been part of this team for some time."Bonnar scored in his debut as a substitute in Ayr's opening 4-0 win over Arbroath and started their 3-0 defeat of Forfar Athletic, while Ure played the closing minutes in Paisley."Obviously, if you are good enough, you get game time and Jude so far has shown he's not out of his depth and he can probably push on again," Brown added. "Kyle we've not seen too much of just yet, but he was only just in training the other day and gets his minutes on the park today. "The two of them are fantastic footballers and it's another two lefties in the team and they have a good understanding of the game and they want to better themselves. "Hopefully they can get game time and, at the same time, add quality on the pitch."

Only Celtic switch up for Rangers Champions League congestion can soothe Premier Sports Cup fixture headache
Both of the big two being handed home ties against Falkirk and Alloa severely limits the options of then ties can be played Both Celtic and Rangers being handed home draws has given the SPFL a fixture headache. Both entered the League Cup at the second round stage along with the other European qualifiers from the Premiership. But it's the big two's Champions League qualifiers that could throw a spanner in the domestic works in terms of both playing in Glasgow on the same weekend. Holders Celtic are at home to top flight new boys Falkirk while Russell Martin's side host Alloa Athletic at Ibrox on the weekend of August 16/17. Gers take a 2-0 Champions League second round qualifying first leg lead to Athens this week, looking to finish the job against Panathinaikos. Do so, and they will face either Servette or Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round. It's not unthinkable that they will book a spot in the playoff round alongside their city rivals, leaving both 180 minutes away from the lucrative league phase. The first legs of those ties will be played on Tuesday August 19 and Wednesday 20, with the Premier Sports Cup fixtures being played the weekend prior. That's still a while away, but it won't be known if Rangers make it before the TV picks for the domestic cup clashes are made. That rules out the Sunday with at least one of them set to play on the Tuesday, and assuming Police Scotland don't go for staggered kick-offs on Saturday August 16, then the most obvious solution at this stage looks like Celtic hosting the Bairns on Friday 15. There is a precedent for both to kick-off on their own respective patches at the same time, however. July 2022 saw the Light Blues host Tottenham Hotspur in the friendly while Norwich City were across town at Celtic Park. Both games kicked off at 3pm on the same day in the same city - which was the first time that had happened since January 1999. Just under 38,000 watched Rangers beat Stenhousemuir 2-0 in the Scottish Cup while over 42,000 were at Parkhead to see the Hoops see off Airdrie 3-1.
