‘Vidya Shakti' launched in A.P. govt schools to help slow learners catch up in academics
Speaking after inaugurating Vidya Shakti, a five-day training programme for teachers from the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Andhra Pradesh Residential Schools and Andhra Pradesh Model Schools, proposed to be implemented in a phased manner, on Wednesday (June 25, 2025), Mr. Rama Raju explained that Vidya Shakti was an online remedial teaching initiative launched for students lagging behind academically in government schools and colleges across Andhra Pradesh.
He said as part of the initiative, technology and innovative teaching methods would be used to offer additional coaching in Mathematics, Science, and English to students after school hours. 'Currently, the program is being implemented in 4,424 Zilla Parishad, Government, and Municipal schools, along with 576 KGBVs, A.P. Residential Schools and A.P. Model Schools across the State,' he informed, emphasising that the main objectives of 'Vidya Shakti' included improving learning outcomes, reducing dropout rates and increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in educational institutions across the state.
From this academic year, he said subject-wise time slots would be scheduled and every student was expected to follow a fixed timetable. He also said it was important to identify bright students and provide them with additional support to help them excel in the Class 10 Board examinations.
The event was attended by Secretary, A.P. Residential Educational Institutions Society (APREIS) V.N. Mastanayya, Director of Government Examinations and Additional Director, IT wing, K.V. Srinivasulu Reddy, Director of the AP State Council of Educational Research and Technology (SCERT) M.V. Krishna Reddy and representatives from IIT-Madras Pravartak.

Students must enter the exam hall latest by 8:30 am. No student will be allowed to enter the examination hall after 8:45 am. The answer sheets will be given to the students 10 minutes before the commencement of the examination, that is at 8:50 am, and question papers will be given from 8:55 am. Further, even if any public or local holiday is declared by the government during the examination period, the exam will be conducted as per schedule. The practical examinations of regular candidates will be conducted in their respective schools, whereas for self-study students, it will be conducted at the examination center allotted to them between February 10 and March 10, 2026. Poor enrolment for courses at Periyar University's Dharmapuri PG centre
COIMBATORE: The postgraduate departments at Periyar University's Postgraduate and Research Centre located in Dharmapuri district are finding it difficult to enrol students. Student admissions have declined in recent years, with enrolment in dropping to single-digit numbers in six PG courses this year. Out of the eight departments, totally 27 students enrolled in six PG courses so far this academic year. Last academic year only two departments recorded single-digit enrolment, show official data accessed last week. Data also show as many as 22 students enrolled in the English department last academic year, but only two have enrolled this year. Five students joined the programme last year, and only three this year. Nine students enrolled in Geology last year, and just one this year. In Computer Science, 15 students joined last year, compared to seven this year. Fifteen students enrolled in Mathematics last year, seven have joined this year. Biotechnology saw 14 enrolments last year, but only seven this year. In the remaining two, 16 students joined the Physics department last year, and 12 have enrolled this year. The highest enrolment is in the MBA programme, with 64 students last year compared to 60 this year," sources added. The eight PG courses had commenced in the 2013-14 academic year. The poor administration of Periyar University has been blamed for the poor response to courses, say official sources.
