Bangladesh, Netherlands to play maiden bilateral series ahead of Asia Cup

Bangladesh are ensuring their preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9, stays on track with consistent game time. Following their historic maiden T20I series win over Pakistan last month, the Tigers are now gearing up to host the Netherlands for the first-ever bilateral white-ball series between the two sides. The Netherlands, who have previously only played in tournaments in Bangladesh, will now be part of a three-match T20I series that marks a new chapter in their rivalry. This short tour will provide Bangladesh with competitive match practice ahead of a major continental event, while also offering the Netherlands a chance to test themselves in subcontinental conditions.
The Netherlands tour Bangladesh for the first time
The Dutch side is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on August 26, following which they will head straight to Sylhet, where all three T20Is will be played. The team will undergo a three-day training camp before the series begins on August 30. The remaining two matches are scheduled for September 1 and 3.
This tour will mark the Netherlands' first bilateral series on Bangladeshi soil, though they have previously competed in the country during the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup, where they famously defeated Ireland in a thrilling group stage encounter to qualify for the Super 10 round.
A stopgap series
The bilateral series was arranged at short notice by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after India postponed their scheduled tour, which was supposed to include three ODIs and three T20Is between August 17 and 31. With a month-long international gap looming, the BCB sought to fill the void with another team. Initial discussions were held with Nepal, but it was the Netherlands that ultimately agreed to the series, adding unexpected but welcome international flavour to Bangladesh's pre–Asia Cup calendar.
BCB officials have expressed satisfaction at sealing the agreement quickly and view the series as essential match exposure for the players.
Limited history, fresh opportunity
Despite their long-standing presence in global cricket, Bangladesh and the Netherlands have rarely crossed paths in international . They have faced off in just five T20Is overall, with Bangladesh winning four of those. Their only prior bilateral engagement was back in 2012, when Bangladesh toured the Netherlands for two T20Is.
For the Dutch side, this is a rare chance to challenge a full-member nation in their own backyard. For Bangladesh, it's a test of consistency after the high of their series win against Pakistan.
Looking ahead to the Asia Cup 2025
With a tight Asia Cup schedule approaching, the T20I series offers both teams crucial preparation. For Bangladesh in particular, maintaining form and momentum is key, and Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha has emphasised the importance of match rhythm heading into the regional tournament. Meanwhile, the Netherlands will look to fine-tune their strategies ahead of their own busy international calendar.

Last Updated: Jasprit Bumrah cherishes memories from the competitive five-Test series against England. India won the final Test at The Oval, levelling the series 2-2 India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah expressed that he will cherish the memories from the highly competitive and enthralling five-Test series against England. 'We take back great memories from a highly competitive and enthralling test series! Looking forward to what's next," Bumrah shared on Instagram. India secured a six-run victory in the fifth and final Test at The Oval on Monday, thereby levelling the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. Bumrah missed the series finale due to workload management. However, Mohammed Siraj stepped up, receiving significant support from Prasidh Krishna, to deliver a fighting performance on the final day of the tour. Siraj claimed five wickets, while Krishna took four, leading India to a historic win in London. Meanwhile, Bumrah participated in three Tests of the tour – Leeds, Lord's, and Manchester – and took 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, before being released from the fifth Test squad. The 31-year-old Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs across three games and took 14 wickets. Twice Bumrah returned five-wicket hauls — at the Headingley in the first Test and at the Lord's in the third game. In the fourt Test, Bumrah bowled 33 overs in the first innings of the fourth Test — the most he has bowled in a single innings — but returned figures of 2 for 103, the first time he conceded over 100 runs in a Test innings. The number of deliveries he bowled over 140kph dropped significantly over the series — from 42.7% at Headingley, to 22.3% at Lord's, and just 0.5% at Old Trafford. Bumrah now has 219 wickets in 48 Tests. Prior to India's departure, chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar had confirmed that the pace ace won't play more than three Tests keeping his workload management in mind. When Will Jasprit Bumrah play Next? Following a month-long rest, Bumrah is expected to be available for the Asia Cup T20 in the UAE from September 9 to 28. 'Look if Bumrah plays in the Asia Cup and if India go the distance till September 28, he won't obviously play the West Indies Test series starting October 2. However, if there are no injuries, he will certainly play the two Tests against World champions South Africa in November," a senior BCCI official privy to current happenings told PTI on conditions of anonymity. After muted celebrations, Indian players head home in batches

Agency: PTI London, Aug 5 (PTI) A famous series levelling win at The Oval called for a major celebration but the Indian squad members opted for quiet downtime before leaving for home on Tuesday morning. A chunk of the India squad members, including Mohammed Siraj, boarded an Emirates flight less than 24 hours after a dramatic finish to the fifth and final Test of a long and gruelling series. The team members will landed in Dubai on Tuesday evening before taking a connecting to flight their respective home cities in India. Siraj, the architect of the victory, will take the next available flight to Hyderabad after landing in Dubai. Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur were among the ones to head back home. Some of the players have chosen to stay back in the country for a well-deserved break. Roughly four hours after the nail biting finish, some of the squad members including Arshdeep and Prasidh Krishna were seen spending time with their families in the heart of London. Kuldeep, who like Arshdeep did not get a game in the series, was seen hanging around with former India player Piyush Chawla. Jasprit Bumrah, who did not play the series decider due to workload management, was released from the squad during the game. 'There were no celebrations last night. It has been a long and hectic series. The players spent time on their own or with families. Most of the players are heading back to India, some are heading elsewhere," said a BCCI source. Drawing the series in England was a big achievement for Gill and his inexperienced team, following the high profile retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Fair to say the team has moved on from two superstars. India's next major assignment will the Asia Cup in the UAE next month.
