‘I'm glad I didn't hit you': Utah Highway Patrol trooper nearly struck in close call with truck on SR-40

HEBER CITY, Utah () — A l trooper was nearly struck by a white truck on SR-40 last week, prompting a reminder to drivers to increase their following distance on the road. Video from the incident showed that the trooper was outside of his car while responding to a crash near mile marker 8 on SR-40 in Summit County. Utah Highway Patrol said a truck that was tailing too closely to the car ahead didn't have time to react to traffic suddenly slowing down for the crash. 'Despite another patrol car parked well behind with emergency lights flashing, the driver failed to slow down and had to swerve at the last second, barely missing the trooper,' Utah Highway Patrol said in . When interacting with the driver after she pulled over shortly after, the trooper told her his heart was racing. 'I'm so glad you're ok,' the driver told the trooper. 'I just need a second to recover. I'm glad I didn't hit you.' The trooper, after making sure the driver was ok, asked her what she learned from the incident. 'Well, I guess not to follow so closely,' she replied. Cpl. Luis Silva told the video is a lesson to Utah drivers that following distance matters on the highway. He added, 'Following too close is one of the largest reasons for crashes in Utah.' In its social media post, Utah Highway Patrol said incidents like the one in the video are the reason why Utah's exists. Under the law, drivers are advised to slow down for emergency vehicles long before they get close. If it is clear and safe, drivers should also move over to the next lane to give emergency vehicles room to operate. If it is not possible to move over, Utah Highway Patrol said to just slow down more. Either way, UHP encourages drivers to focus on the road ahead and not what's happening on the side of the highway. 'Please give yourself time and give us space,' UHP concluded in its post. Another popular hangout spot in Sacramento abruptly closes its doors

( — Another popular spot for people to hang out and grab a drink in Sacramento abruptly closed its doors for good on Monday. • Twin Peaks Restaurant and Sports Bar, located in Arden-Arcade, announced the closure of its only California franchise location. Popular Sacramento brewery abruptly closes all three of its area locations amid lawsuit 'To our fans, we thank you for nearly 10 years of joining us for the 'food, fun, cold beer and sports,' the business said on social media. 'It's with a heavy heart that we must share that Twin Peaks Sacramento is now permanently closed. Thank you and be well.' Twin Peaks is a hooters-style establishment that is prominent in the midwestern and southern parts of the U.S. There are nearly 100 locations. It is popular for its 'Twin Peaks Girls' and barrel-aged whiskey. Trio caught stealing thousands worth of crops in Northern California, deputies say 'The second you step inside, you're surrounded by a lodge full of friendly and attentive Twin Peaks Girls serving up scratch food and our signature 29 degree beers,' the company said on its website. It's unclear why the Sacramento location closed down. However, it comes amid a series of other abrupt closures throughout the region within recent months. On April 28, Device Brewing Company shut down all three of its Sacramento-area locations without notice after the landlord filed suit for $23,000 in missed rent payments. Nearly one month, May 31, Track 7 Brewing Company closed both of its Sacramento locations with no warning. The reason behind the closure has not been revealed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
