People are just realising what the band name Fleetwood Mac means after 58 years
When it comes to music, Fleetwood Mac are a band that has played a big part in a lot of people's lives.
The British-American rock band, who formed in London in 1967, was put together by guitarist and singer Peter Green. Over 50 years later, the group have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, which ranks them as one of the world's best-selling bands.
Even so, it seems that after all this time, some people still don't know the meaning behind their name - especially if they've become fans later down the line. On
Reddit
, lots of music fans talk about the iconic group, known for hits such as "Dreams" and "Go Your Own Way", however it seems they're always learning something new about the band.
On Quora, another person asked: "How did Fleetwood Mac get their name?" The simple question generated a host of replies.

One replied: "Fleetwood Mac got their name from a combination of the last names of two of its founding members, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. The band was originally formed in 1967 as a blues band led by Peter Green, and they were initially called 'Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac'. The name was later shortened to simply 'Fleetwood Mac'."
Another suggested: "Peter Green, the lead guitarist at the time in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers was given by John Mayall studio time, as a gift to do with whatever he wanted. He made the instrumental recording of the song 'Fleetwood Mac' with Mick Fleetwood & John McVie, the drummer and bass player respectively at the time in The Bluesbreakers."
However, if you didn't know how the band got its name, you may be surprised to learn it's actually quite simple how it all came together.
Green actually named the band by combining the surnames of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie - two musicians who remained with the band throughout its various line-up changes.
If you knew the founding members were called Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, you'd probably guess where the band got its name from, but the idea to merge the rhythm sections' names actually took a little while to develop.

The story goes it all began when co-founder Peter Green replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, which also comprised of Fleetwood and McVie. Then a name for the new band came about after Peter, Mick and John started recording songs - something which John Mayall reportedly gave them space to do.
During these recording sessions, one song turned out to be a sprawling instrumental and it was dubbed "Fleetwood Mac" due to the vital contributions of the drummer and bassist, with Mac being a shortened version of McVie.
Later, Green suggested using it to name the band itself, and the idea soon stuck. However, despite inspiring the moniker, Green was the first to leave the band.
By the time they reached the mid-'70s, the group had altered quite a bit, and added Christine McVie - then Christine Perfect. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks later concluded what would be the enduring line-up.
As many people know, it wasn't always full of joy though, as the five piece ended up turning their affairs, break-ups and utter heartbreak into major music with their iconic album Rumours in 1977.

Step onto Savile Row, London's most iconic street for style
As the inspiration behind Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's brand—synonymous with understated luxury—Savile Row (UK) remains a must-visit for the sartorially inclined traveller. 78 per cent cashmere, 14 per cent silk, 3 per cent wool, 2 per cent camel (and 3 per cent other fibres, where necessary): such is the label found inside the 'Mance' coat from The Row's Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. Designed with side pockets and a back flap, it boasts an ideal length and a price tag akin to that of a modest vehicle. 'Sometimes the coat is worth more than the money itself.' And yet, the 'Mance' coat isn't even the most extravagant offering. The Row's 'Margaux 10' handbag, rendered in crocodile leather, commands a sum comparable to a pre-owned Bentley. That these pieces continue to sell out at such prices owes everything to the brand's unwavering commitment to quality. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen did justice to The Row's namesake, honouring the London street that is home to the world's most exacting tailors: Savile Row. Nestled in the Mayfair district of Westminster, central London, Savile Row is the cradle of British tailoring. In essence, it is where any gentleman serious about refined dress naturally finds himself. See more: What to expect from Prada's 'billion dollar deal' to acquire Versace?

Hailey Bieber's Rhode to be acquired for US$1 billion—here's what it means
US cosmetics group Elf Beauty announced it is acquiring make-up and skincare brand Rhode, founded by Hailey Bieber, in a landmark billion-dollar deal In what is regarded as one of the biggest celebrity beauty acquisitions in recent years, Hailey Bieber's make-up and skincare label Rhode has just been sold for US$1 billion. Elf Beauty announced it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rhode, a rapidly growing lifestyle beauty brand known for its collection of high-tech, everyday skincare products. According to a press release, the deal is 'comprised of US$800 million of consideration payable at closing in a combination of cash and stock, subject to customary adjustments, and an additional potential earnout consideration of US$200 million' based on Rhode's growth over the next three years. The news comes two months after Vogue Business reported that the brand hired investment banks JPMorgan Chase and Moelisto oversee the sale. In case you missed it: Brad Pitt just launched a skincare line—when will consumers grow tired of celebrity beauty brands? Founded in 2022 by Bieber and her business partners, Michael Ratner and Lauren Ratner, Rhode launched with just three products as a direct-to-consumer brand that quickly rose to prominence among beauty enthusiasts and industry watchers. While its collection of ten products is considered modest compared to other celebrity beauty brands, a report in Business of Fashion stated that the brand managed to rake up US$212 million in net sales in the latest fiscal year ending in March 2025. Rhode recently announced its entrance into physical stores, starting with Sephora US and Canada stores and in Sephora UK by the end of the year. It is no surprise that the brand quickly went viral due to Bieber's influence that started various social media trends—from glazed donut nails to Erewhon smoothies. But those familiar with Rhode will know the products that truly shot the brand into superstardom are its Peptide Lip Treatment and the instantly recognisable Lip Case. 'When I launched Rhode in 2022, I always had big dreams for the company, and the most important thing to me is to keep bringing rhode to more spaces, places, and faces globally,' Bieber said in an Instagram post announcing the acquisition. 'So today I am so incredibly excited and proud to announce that we are partnering with Elf Beauty as we step into this next chapter in the world of rhode.' Elf Beauty chief executive officer and chairman Tarang Amin told Vogue Business that this new partnership is the 'perfect marriage' for them. The American beauty group's existing portfolio currently consists of skincare brand Naturium, singer Alicia Keys's wellness brand, Soulcare, and makeup brand Well People. While Bieber continues her role as founder of Rhode, she also takes on new titles: Chief Creative Officer and Head of Innovation of the brand as well as strategic advisor to Elf Beauty.
