Giants (Temporarily) End Abdul Carter Number Saga
The biggest story of New York Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter's first few weeks in the NFL was getting told 'no' several times. First, it was Lawrence Taylor, who respectfully told Carter to get his own number and join him in the rafters. Phil Simms seemed a bit more willing to part with his No. 11, but was ultimately vetoed by his family.
As such, Carter had to wait for offseason workouts to learn what number he'll be wearing.

The Giants' jersey announcement temporarily ended Carter's number saga on Friday.
He'll be wearing No. 51, at least for now. New York unveiled the numbers for its 2025 NFL Draft class, albeit with the disclaimer that they are subject to change.
Edge Rusher Abdul Carter – 51
Quarterback Jaxson Dart – 6
Defensive Tackle Darius Alexander – 91
Running Back Cam Skattebo – 44
Offensive Tackle Marcus Mbow – 71
Tight End Thomas Fidone II – 86
Cornerback Korie Black – 25
It seems to be coincidental that Carter received the 5 from Taylor's No. 56 and a 1 from Simms' No. 11. With only a handful of applicable numbers available, the drama has come to an anticlimactic conclusion.
'It was pretty much what we had available, so it was a good number,' he said, via the New York Post.
Needless to say, Carter is focused on more important things as his transition to the league is underway. The team, with a surplus at edge rusher alongside Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, will ask him to move around a bit, perhaps next to defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence inside or directly over the A gap as a mugging linebacker.

'It's pretty much set. I'm just happy to be out here playing football. That's all I'm worried about.'
While he won't be wearing Taylor's No. 56, the bar is set for Carter. As the No. 3 pick and plenty of talent around him, Carter will be tasked with living up to his blue-chip status immediately. Anything less will have his critics mocking the entire jersey ordeal in the first place.

Big Aaron Judge Announcement Made Amid Red Sox-Yankees Series Finale
Big Aaron Judge Announcement Made Amid Red Sox-Yankees Series Finale originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are wrapping up their first series of the season on Sunday night. After the Yankees took Game 1, the Red Sox bounced back with a 10–7 win on Saturday night, setting the stage for an intriguing series finale on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Advertisement Carlos Rodón will take the mound for the Yankees, while the Red Sox will counter with rookie Hunter Dobbins, who recently made headlines for his comments about the Yankees. 'My dad was a diehard Red Sox fan,' Dobbins said. 'And I've said it before—that if the Yankees were the last team to offer me a contract, I'd retire.' Despite that bold stance, Dobbins has pitched well through the first seven starts of his career, compiling a 2–1 record with a 4.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts. However, he may face his toughest challenge yet with the Yankees. Ahead of Sunday's game, it was revealed that Yankees superstar and AL MVP Aaron Judge currently leads the MLB in both batting average and OPS against rookie pitchers. This will mark Dobbins' first career appearance against the Yankees. This season, Aaron Judge is hitting a staggering .591 with six home runs and a 2.080 OPS against rookie pitchers. While he's having a dominant season overall, he's been especially ruthless against inexperienced arms. Advertisement For pitchers, one mistake is all it takes—and against a hitter like Judge, that mistake often ends up in the seats. He's proven that time and time again this year. New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99)© Brad Penner-Imagn Images Judge has compiled a 4.9 WAR so far, along with a .390 batting average, 92 hits, 21 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a 1.233 OPS. If he continues at this blistering pace, he'll be firmly in the running for another AL MVP—his second straight and the third of his career. New Orleans Saints Quarterback Competition Heats Up in Final Week of OTAs
New Orleans Saints Quarterback Competition Heats Up in Final Week of OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New Orleans Saints quarterback competition stays hot. The final practice open to the media for OTAs highlighted the intense battle between rookie quarterback Tyler Shough and second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler. New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough (6)Stephen Lew-Imagn Images On Thursday, the Saints' offense worked in the red zone. Spencer Rattler ended the day 6/8 passing with 3 touchdowns, while Shough finished 7/8 passing with one touchdown. Both players rotated working with the first and second teams. Advertisement The quarterback battle became public first during the open portion of the first week of OTAs when Shough and Rattler each had impressive showings. During 7-on-7 sessions, Rattler went a perfect 8/8 passing, while Shough followed up closely, going 7/8 with a deep 50+ yard bomb to Shaheed. The two young signal callers continued their impressive runs in 7-on-7 drills the following week. During the open portion of the Saints week two OTAs, Shough went 9/12 with 2 touchdowns and an interception. The rookie quarterback's touchdowns came excitingly, with both being 60+ yard deep passes. Rattler continues to be right on Shough's trail, however, going 10/12 passing. Shough finishes OTAs going 23/28 for 3 touchdowns and an interception while Rattler ends 24/28 passing with 3 touchdowns. Both players delivered impressive performances, continuing the tight battle for the starting quarterback. While head coach Kellen Moore said the team will maintain similar workouts during minicamp, the real battle will begin in training camp, when teams will be allowed contact drills. As training camp ramps up and bleeds into preseason, a starter will be named.
