Crime of Week: Man robs car salesman at gunpoint, steals pickup in West El Paso
This is this week's 'Crime of the Week,' as publicized by Crime Stoppers of El Paso.
At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, the victim — a car salesman for Car Lots LLC — agreed to meet the suspect, who posed as a potential buyer, Crime Stoppers said.
The victim drove to an apartment complex at 500 Rubin Dr., where the suspect test drove the 2019 black 4-door Chevrolet Silverado with the victim.
After returning to the parking lot of the apartments, the suspect pulled out a gun, threatened the victim, and ordered him out of the truck, Crime Stoppers said.
The suspect fled with the truck valued at $19,800. The suspect is a Hispanic male, late teens to early 20s, with a medium complexion, a slight mustache, and an average build, Crime Stoppers said.

You Can Now File a Claim for Part of AT&T's $177 Million Data Breach Settlement
AT&T's Snowflake data breach of 2024 affected more than 100 million people. wdstock/Getty Images AT&T customers who were included in the company's 2019 or 2024 data breaches now have the chance to file a claim for compensation. On Monday, the administrative firm managing the company's massive $177 million settlement announced that the claim process has begun and that eligible customers will need to file claims by November 18, 2025 in order to receive a payout. The settlement, which received preliminary approval from a federal judge in June, is meant to resolve two class-action lawsuits tied to the breaches. If your personal data was compromised in either incident, it's worth checking your eligibility. Submitting a claim could put real money back in your pocket, even if your time with AT&T is long behind you. The settlement prioritizes larger payments to customers who suffered damages that are "fairly traceable" to the data leaks. It will also provide bigger payments to those affected by the larger of the two leaks, which began in 2019. While the company is working toward a settlement, it has continued to deny that it was "responsible for these criminal acts." What happened with these AT&T data breaches? AT&T confirmed the two data breaches last year, announcing an investigation into the first in March before confirming it in May and confirming the second in July. The first of the confirmed breaches began in 2019. The company revealed that about 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former account holders had their data exposed to hackers, including names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth. The company began investigating the situation last year after it reported that customer data had appeared on the dark web. The second breach began in April of 2024, when a hacker broke into AT&T cloud storage provider Snowflake and accessed 2022 call and text records for almost all of the company's US customers, about 109 million in all. The company stressed that no names were attached to the stolen data. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the breach. Both of these incidents sparked a wave of class action lawsuits alleging corporate neglect on the part of AT&T in failing to sufficiently protect its customers. Who is eligible to file a claim for the AT&T data breach settlement? As of now, we know that the settlement will pay out to any current or former AT&T customer whose data was accessed in one of these data breaches, with higher payments reserved for those who can provide documented proof that they suffered damages directly resulting from their data being stolen. If you're eligible, you should receive a notice about it, either by email or a physical letter in the mail. How can I file a claim for my share of the AT&T data breach settlement? On Aug. 4, 2025, the Kroll Settlement Administration announced that affected AT&T customers can now file claims against the proposed $177 million settlement. Claims can be filed online at After clicking on "Submit Claim" on the settlement website, you'll be asked for a Class Member ID. That number should be in the email or mailed notice you received about the settlement. You'll also be asked to provide an email Address, your AT&T account number or your full name. If you don't want to file the claim online, you can download and print the PDF forms for either the first data breach announced on March 30, 2024, the second breach announced on July 12, 2024, or the overlap form if you were part of both breaches. Printed and signed forms should be mailed to: AT&T Data Incident Settlement c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324 New York, NY 10150-5324. Settlement claims need to be filed by Nov. 18, 2025, or else you'll be left out of the class action settlement. If you disagree with the settlement and want to opt out so you can sue AT&T yourself, you'll need to do that by October 17, 2025. The final approval process for the proposed settlement will be Dec. 3, 2025. If the settlement is approved in December, payouts to customers are likely to begin in early 2026. How much will the AT&T data breach payments be? You'll have to "reasonably" prove damages caused by these data breaches to be eligible for the highest and most prioritized payouts. For the 2019 breach, those claimants can receive up to $5,000. For the Snowflake breach in 2024, the max payout will be $2,500. It's not clear at this time how the company might be handling customers who've been affected by both breaches. AT&T will focus on making those payments first, and whatever's left of the $177 million settlement total will be disbursed to anyone whose data was accessed, even without proof of damages. Because these payouts depend on how many people get the higher amounts first, we can't say definitively how much they will be.

Soldiers hailed as heroes for tackling armed assailant at Georgia Army base
FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) — A half-dozen soldiers at a Georgia Army base are being hailed as heroes for tackling an armed assailant accused of shooting five people and then giving aid to their wounded colleagues. Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, is accused of using a personal handgun to shoot five soldiers Wednesday at Fort Stewart, one of the nation's largest Army bases, before he was quickly tackled by other troops, officials said. 'The fast action of these soldiers under stress and under trauma and under fire absolutely saved lives from being lost,' Army Secretary Dan Driscoll said at a news briefing Thursday morning. 'One of the soldiers tackled the person, so just think about this — they were unarmed and ran at and tackled an armed person who they knew was actively shooting their buddies, their colleagues, their fellow soldiers,' Driscoll said. 'Another soldier jumped on top of the person to subdue them until federal law enforcement was able to arrive.' Authorities say Radford opened fire on a part of the base where he worked, but officials would not speculate about a motive. The injured were taken to the hospital and three underwent surgery, officials said. The injured soldiers are stable and expected to recover, said Brig Gen. John Lubas. The soldiers who tackled Radford helped ensure his arrest, said Lubas, who commands the 3rd Infantry Division. This latest act of violence on a U.S. military installation — sites that are supposed to be among the most secure in the country — again raised concerns about safety and security within the armed forces' own walls. There were still many unanswered questions about the shooting. Army records released to The Associated Press show Radford enlisted in January 2018. He worked as a supply sergeant and has not been deployed. Radford faced an Aug. 20 hearing in Hinesville, a small town near the base, on accusations of driving under the influence and running a red light just after 1 a.m. on May 18, according to a citation and court filing. He was given a blood test and freed on a $1,818 bond, the documents said. A telephone number listed for Radford in public records rang unanswered. Attorney Sneh Patel is representing Radford in the traffic case but not the shooting as of Wednesday, he said in an email. He cited attorney-client privilege in declining to comment about any his conversations with Radford. Law enforcement was sent to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex shortly before 11 a.m. The suspect was arrested at 11:35 a.m., officials said. A lockdown lasted about an hour. After it was lifted, cars began to move through the normal security checkpoint at the fort's main gate. The Army's 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team was created in 2016 when the service added more than 200 vehicles to an infantry unit of roughly 4,200 soldiers. Also known as the 'Spartan Brigade,' the Army has called the unit its 'most modern land fighting force.' Located about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River by land area. It's home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the Army's 3rd Infantry Division and family members. President Donald Trump called the shooter a 'horrible person' in comments to reporters at the White House. The FBI was at the fort to help investigate, said Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Among the deadliest acts of violence on U.S. military bases was a 2009 attack. A U.S. Army psychiatrist killed 13 people in a shooting that left more than 30 wounded at Fort Hood, a military installation in Texas. In 2013, a defense contract worker and former Navy reservist killed 12 people at Washington Navy Yard. He was then killed in a gun battle with police. In 2014, a soldier opened fire on his fellow service members at Fort Hood, killing three people and wounding more than a dozen others before the gunman killed himself. In 2019, an aviation student opened fire in a classroom at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, killing three people and injuring another dozen people including two sheriff's deputies.
