Lokesh Kanagaraj reveals how Aamir Khan's secret role in Coolie was leaked; teases their upcoming superhero film: ‘It'll be the biggest actioner ever'
Even before their superhero film materialises, Lokesh and Aamir have already officially collaborated. The actor recently played a cameo in Lokesh's upcoming Rajinikanth-led actioner Coolie. Although Lokesh and his team tried to keep Aamir's involvement under wraps, the news was simply too big to contain. The makers eventually confirmed his role and even revealed his character poster.
Now, Lokesh has opened up about his experience working with the Bollywood legend, as well as about their upcoming project, which is already in development. 'We actually did not want to let the world know that Aamir sir is a part of Coolie. That's why we shot with him somewhere else and didn't let any news come out. But there were speculations and talks. Then Aamir sir called me and said, 'Lokesh, I can't keep lying in front of the camera. I've been doing it from morning for my film (Sitaare Zameen Par). Can I just say it?' Hearing this, I was like, 'Please say it, sir. It's not a world secret. I'll talk to the production house.' So, I told Sun Pictures, let's release a poster featuring Aamir sir and let the news out. Films are made for people, you can't keep them tightly under wraps all the time,' he shared during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India.
Lokesh went on to say that working with Aamir Khan felt similar to his experience collaborating with Kamal Haasan in Vikram (2022). 'When working with Kamal sir, after a shot, if you approach him with a correction, he too will have one correction to give you. So, you'll be confused wondering which one you like the most. Hence, you need to fix on one thing, and if you want a little improvisation, you just need to show them what they actually did and ask for slight improvement instead of going for a completely different thing. That's one similarity I have noticed between the two of them. And they will ask for retakes even if I say okay (to a shot). Aamir sir worked on the movie for just 5-6 days, and he will always ask, 'Can I do it one more time just for my own satisfaction?' And I would agree since we all love to see them perform,' he added.
Speaking about his planned project with Aamir, Lokesh said, 'After Kaithi 2, we might most probably be doing a film with Aamir sir. It will be a Hindi film, but for the entire globe, not just for the Indian audience. It's a very nice idea, and we had a wonderful time discussing it. I love the way he approached the film. I think our collaboration will bring a new kind of genre. It'll be the biggest action film and can be called a superhero film as well. I wrote it very long ago.'

Box Office: Saiyaara enters the Rs 100 crore club in 4 days flat; Monday higher than Friday for Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer
Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri and starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda is enjoying a gravity-defying run at the box office. After a stellar first weekend of Rs 82 crore net, the movie has collected Rs 22.25 - 22.75 crore on day 4. To put things into perspective, the collections are higher than the opening Friday, and the footfalls are higher than both Friday and Saturday. Total collections of Saiyaara stand at Rs 104.50 crore and we are witnessing history right before our eyes. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of Saiyaara Are As Under Saiyaara Nets Higher Than Opening Day On First Monday; A First For A Film With A Rs 20 Crore Plus Net India Start Saiyaara is a box office force like none other, in recent memory. We have never had a Rs 20 crore plus net India opener, actually growing in collections on non-Holiday Monday. It has become the first film featuring debutants to enter the Rs 100 crore club. For it to enter the club in just 4 days is unbelievable. With Saiyaara, the total number of Rs 100 crore plus India net grossers from Bollywood in 2025 stand at 7, the other 6 being Chhaava, Housefull 5, Raid 2, Sitaare Zameen Par, Sky Force and Sikandar. The bookings are robust for 'Discount Tuesday' with footfalls sure to be higher than Monday. If the collections see a drop on Tuesday, it will likely be due to low average ticket prices. A week one of Rs 160 crore net is certain, and that means the lifetime collections of this year's biggies Housefull 5, Raid 2 and Sitaare Zameen Par will mostly be breached in 7 days flat. To note, this phenomenon is occuring for a film that was expected to open to Rs 3 - 4 crore, a week before release, with the ceiling being Rs 5 crore. Expectations for the Mohit Suri film increased once the pre-bookings started. But still, a Rs 20 crore plus day one number was something that never crossed anyone's mind. Now, the film is on course for a lifetime number that will be remembered for decades. International Markets Have Also Got On Board For Saiyaara The collections of the film being higher on Monday than the opening day is not just an India-wide phenomenon. The international markets have got on board. With Monday bookings in sync with the first Saturday, the romantic-drama is set for a lifetime number of over USD 10 million.

Actor Silambarasan provides financial help to late stuntman SM Raju's family after tragic accident on 'Vettuvam' set
In a deeply moving act of solidarity, actor Silambarasan TR has quietly provided financial support to the family of veteran stuntman SM Raju, who tragically lost his life while performing a dangerous car stunt on the set of 'Vettuvam', directed by Pa. Ranjith. Despite having no involvement in the film, Silambarasan's gesture has touched hearts across the Tamil film industry. The fatal incident occurred on July 13, 2025 during the filming of a high-risk action sequence. While preliminary reports suggest that basic safety protocols were in place, the accident has reignited urgent discussions about the safety and welfare of stunt performers, who often risk their lives for on-screen spectacle. Silambarasan's contribution came to light during an emotional interview with renowned stunt choreographer Silva Master, who praised the actor not only for his timely financial aid but also for his ongoing charitable efforts, often carried out without fanfare. 'Silambarasan didn't have anything to do with the film, but he stepped in for the family without any publicity,' said Silva. 'It's not the first time he's done something like this. He always helps quietly, from the heart.' SM Raju's death has sent shockwaves through the industry, and condolences have been pouring in from actors, technicians, and fans alike. Legal proceedings have also been initiated under sections 289, 125, and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against director Pa. Ranjith, stunt coordinator Vinoth, Rajkamal from Neelam Productions, and vehicle owner Prabhakaran. While the production of 'Vettuvam', which stars Arya in the lead role, is currently under review pending investigation, the tragic loss has highlighted systemic gaps in on-set safety — particularly for stunt artists who often go under-recognised despite their life-threatening work. Meanwhile, Silambarasan TR, last seen in 'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam, is currently working on 'STR49', a highly anticipated collaboration with director Vetri Maaran set within the Vada Chennai universe. Though not a direct sequel, the project has garnered considerable buzz among fans.
