Gavin & Stacey clapperboard raises thousands for charity
A clapperboard signed by the Gavin & Stacey cast has raised £3,700 for charity in an online auction. The item was donated to children's hospice Tŷ Hafan by one of the camera crew who filmed the show's final episode.The auction, which took place on eBay and saw 38 bids before finishing on Friday, was described by the charity as "beyond our expectations".Gavin & Stacey was first screened in 2007 and more than 19.1 million viewers have watched the final episode of the show which aired on Christmas Day.
The show follows the story of Gavin, from Billericay, Essex, and his romance with Stacey from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, and the intertwined lives of their friends and family.The clapperboard was signed by 12 members of the cast, including Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon and Larry Lamb.John Mladenovic, Tŷ Hafan's director of retail and lottery, said the response to the clapperboard auction was "huge" and "really captured people's imagination". "Our hospice is based right next door to Barry so we've had a long-term sort of connection with Gavin & Stacey," he added.Mr Mladenovic said Tŷ Hafan was "shocked" the clapperboard sold for such a high amount, and has now become the charity's highest-selling auction item. "When we put this up for auction we thought it would go for maybe a couple of thousand pounds," Mr Mladenovic said. "So yeah, it really did go beyond our expectations."He said the charity needs to raise £6.9m every year to help children with life-shortening conditions and their loved ones.Tŷ Hafan is currently reaching one in 10 families in Wales that need help. Mr Mladenovic said the money raised will provide bereavement support, help children access play therapy or reach them in their homes. "We're so grateful for this kind of donation as it just helps us so much to generate publicity as it gets people to think about us," Mr Mlandenovic added.

The floor falls from beneath Elaine Knight's (Harriet Thorpe) feet in EastEnders next week, as she learns where her husband George (Colin Salmon) ran off to on Christmas Day. In scenes that air this week, Elaine is left furious when he helps out with Cindy's relaunch of The Prince Albert, and her rival karaoke party flops, and by this time next week, things aren't any better between the couple. Tension is simmering behind the bar at The Vic as she silently fumes over George lending a hand his ex-wife a hand with her re-opening. Elaine decides to show her husband how committed she is to him, and presents a touching gift honouring his boxing past. However, as they relish in happiness, his son Junior (Micah Balfour) storms in and drops a bombshell. At Christmas, George secretly visited his ex Sabrina – Junior's mum. An argument escalates when he admits that Sabrina kissed him, although he pushed her away. Elaine declares that she's had enough and throws him out of the family home. An emotional George heads out to find Junior to vent his frustration, but instead crosses paths with Cindy, who – perhaps conveniently – is there to offer a shoulder to cry on. EastEnders wedding thrown into chaos as Kat calls things off with Alfie
A misunderstanding puts Kat Slater's (Jessie Wallace) wedding to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) in jeopardy next week, but will the EastEnders finally have reason to celebrate? It's been quite a quick turnaround for the couple, who are engaged this week in the spur of the moment. Kat had invested in a new limousine business, and when Alfie decided to stage a fake wedding shoot, he decided to put the wheels into motion and make it official. Little did they realise, trouble was brewing back at home, as son Tommy (Sonny Kendall) used Alfie's credit card to purchase pornography online. In upcoming scenes, Kat's left reeling after stumbling across the explicit video on the family laptop – completely unaware that it was actually Tommy who bought it. Assuming the worst, she opens up to Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), fearing that her fiancé might be turning to adult content, especially with things having cooled off in the bedroom since his cancer treatment. Blissfully unaware and trying to reignite the spark, Alfie whips up a romantic meal, but Kat beats him to it – arriving in full seduction mode. The atmosphere soon turns frosty when Alfie slows things down, and a wounded and offended Kat storms off. Jean urges Kat to have an honest chat with her partner, while Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) gives Alfie his own shoulder to cry on. Eventually, the pair sit down for a long-overdue heart-to-heart, hoping to make amends from the situation they've found themselves in. But the peace is short-lived when Kat brings up that video. As the situation escalates, they realise that Tommy is the one responsible. The teen has developed a worrying obsession with adult content, ever since striking up a friendship with newcomer Joel Marshall (Max Murray). His dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and Ross' girlfriend Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) both believe that he could do with some positive male influences, and are pleased to see him bonding with Tommy over his wedding speech. What they don't realise is that both lads are entrapped in a dangerous web of online content. On-off EastEnders couple Kat Slater and Alfie Moon have a long and complicated history, which began when they were part of a will-they-won't-they storyline while working behind the bar of the Queen Vic in 2002. After finally getting together, they tied the knot on Christmas Day 2003, but were ripped apart a year later by Kat's jealous ex, gangster Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs), who threatened to kill Alfie unless Kat slept with him. Realising their feelings for one another were still there, they gave their marriage another shot and left Walford for pastures new at the end of 2005. Five years later, they made a bombshell comeback when it was revealed Kat had been having an affair with Alfie's cousin Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd) and was pregnant with his son. They eventually reconciled, with Alfie agreeing to bring Tommy up as his own. However, they were heartbroken when their baby 'died' – before it was later revealed Ronnie Mitchell had actually swapped their baby with her son James, who had died from cot death. After a joyous reunion with baby Tommy, the pair were torn apart again when Kat's subsequent affair with Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) was exposed. But a reconciliation eventually followed – as did their twin sons Bert and Ernie – before Kat and Alfie swapped the Square for Spain in 2016 after winning big on the lottery. Two years later, a broke Kat returned to Walford having split from Alfie again, after cheating on him. When he later followed home, the couple had a short-lived reunion before Alfie was revealed as the father of Kat's cousin Hayley Slater's (Katie Jarvis) baby daughter Cherry. With their relationship in tatters, Alfie did a bunk from Walford in 2019 after scamming £50k out of Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who Kat later went on to have an unlikely relationship with. When Alfie returned to Albert Square again three years later, he sabotaged Kat's wedding to Phil, but it wasn't enough to split them up and they rescheduled their nuptials. However, after Kat discovered Phil had cheated on her with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), the pair split and she moved in with Alfie. As Kat and Alfie's big day rolls around, their happiness is already under threat. Worries about Tommy and the video loom large, and although Alfie vows to have a word with his son, chaos (in true Walford fashion) keeps getting in the way. By the time he confesses to bungling several wedding tasks, Kat's had enough, and calls the whole thing off! More Trending Uh-oh. EastEnders Bernie star supported by cast as she breaks silence on show axe
EastEnders actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in the soap, has broken her silence after it was revealed she'd been axed by the BBC soap Actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in EastEnders, has spoken out weeks after it was revealed she had been axed from the BBC soap after eight years. Clair, 27, joined her fellow castmates at this weekend's British Soap Awards, in which the soap won an incredible 8 awards. It included wins for Best British Soap, Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' surprise return. The cast and crew were out in full force celebrating, as Clair addressed her exit for the first time in a post from the night - calling it an "amazing end". Taking to her Instagram to post a picture of herself all glammed up in a teal dress on the night, Clair penned: "My last @thebritishsoapawards with my EE family. We [broom emoji] up last night, 8 awards & I couldn't be prouder to be apart of this team! What a way to end this amazing journey, head held high & beaming from ear to ear." Clair was supported by both fans as colleagues in her post, with James Farrar, who plays Zack Hudson writing: "Head held HIGH," along with a number of red heart emojis. Emma Barton who plays Honey Mitchell echoed: "Love you," as Elijah Holloway who plays Harry Mitchell gushed: "We looked lovely didn't we." Clair also posted pictures with co-star Matthew James Morrison, who has also been axed from the soap after playing the role of Felix Baker since 2022. Bernie arrived in Walford in 2017 alongside mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). However, she's the last one of her family members left on the Square with her mum Karen leaving EastEnders in 2023, shortly followed by the murder of her brother Keanu on Christmas Day. According to The Sun, Bernie's exit storyline didn't come as a surprise to star Clair. A source told the publication: "Every time a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own changes – it's nothing personal. "The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn't really a surprise to Clair." "She was the last Taylor standing and it's time to close the chapter on them and let Clair go on to do other things." EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
