2026 Alfa Romeo Stelvio revealed in leaked patent images
Patent images revealing the exterior design of the second-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio have surfaced online.
If this leak posted by KindelAuto on Instagram are accurate, the soft organic shapes of the current car will be replaced by sharper creases, straighter lines, and less rounded angles.
Up front there's the latest interpretation of the brand's shield grille, first seen on the Junior. This is flanked by a split headlight treatment, a trapezoidal lower air dam, and triangular side air intakes.

Around the side we can see the car's clamshell bonnet, and flush-fitting door handles. The window line rises sharply after the C-pillar, but is offset by a piece of black plastic that dips sharply in the opposite direction a few inches after door aperture. This graphic reminds this writer of the just-replaced third-generation Nissan Murano.
Probably the most controversial aspect of the design is at the rear, where full circuit tail-lights enclose a black panel below the rear windscreen.
The 2026 Stelvio will ride on the STLA Large platform that also underpins the Dodge Charger, which has a 400V or 800V electrical architecture depending on the model, and supports DC fast charging up to 350kW.
Since launch the latest Charger has only been available with dual-motor all-wheel drive electric drivetrains in a dizzying array of specifications ranging from base 340kW/548Nm to the current top-shelf 500kW/850Nm variant.
Dodge will soon add petrol power to range, with the upcoming Six Pack models powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six Hurricane engine. Already present in a variety of Jeep and Ram models, the Hurricane is available in either 313kW/637Nm in standard output guise, or a 410kW/746Nm high output trim. Supplied Credit: CarExpert
With Alfa abandoning plans to go fully electric with its new models, the next-gen Stelvio will be available with the choice of hybrid and electric motivation. That means there's also a decent chance the Hurricane engine could end up in the new Stelvio, as well as the next Giulia.
Given the late about-face on being an EV-only brand, the Stelvio's initial powertrain choices will be electric.
Like the current model, the next-generation Stelvio will be built in the company's factory in Cassino in Italy, about halfway between Rome and Naples. Just like today's car, it will made alongside the Giulia sedan.
While the new Stelvio will make its debut later this year, production of the current generation is scheduled to end at the end of May 2025. Although Alfa Romeo Australia is stockpiling the current Stelvio, it's likely there will be a gap in availability between the two generations.

Toyota Aygo X: Tiny Euro-only SUV the latest to go hybrid-only
The funky Aygo X has not only received a facelift, but Toyota has somehow managed to cram a hybrid drivetrain into the diminutive crossover hatchback. The Aygo X's front overhang has been stretched by 76mm to accommodate the 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain from the Yaris. While its 85kW power output won't set too many hearts a-flutter, it's a significant step up from the 54kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine the Aygo family has offered since the first-generation's launch in 2005. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. With the Aygo X measuring only 3.78m long, Toyota flipped the high-voltage traction battery around so it lies across the width of the car under the rear seat. The 12V battery, which is used to power the electronics and start the main battery, has been moved to a space underneath the boot floor. Toyota says the Aygo X can now complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 'under 10 seconds'. It took 14.9 seconds to accomplish the same feat in the pre-facelift model. On top of the this, fuel consumption has dropped from 4.7 to 3.7L/100km. If there's a downside to all this, the Aygo X now no longer has a manual option, as the hybrid system includes an e-CVT. Stylistically, the biggest changes occur at the front, where there's a squarer set of headlights, and a larger and more assertive lower air intake. Inside the cabin, analogue instruments have given way to a 7.0-inch digital screen, and there's more sound deadening. The facelifted Aygo X has also gained a GR Sport spec. While it doesn't have any extra power compared to other variants, it does have retuned dampers, springs and steering to deliver a more lively drive. There's also a mesh pattern for the lower air intakes, unique alloy wheels, and plenty of GR badging inside and out. It's also available in a two-tone paint scheme with Mustard paint on the lower body, and black up top and on the bonnet. With the Aygo X being exclusively manufactured in Czechia, the chance of it being brought officially to Australia is somewhere close to zero.

Jaecoo J8: New Chinese brand's flagship SUV lineup could expand
Most large crossover SUVs offer three rows of seating in Australia and many are available with some form of powertrain electrification. Not so the Jaecoo J8. Chery Australia, however, says the model range of its new flagship SUV could expand in future. 'We're only launching as a five-seater. Based on customer feedback, if the market is there, obviously we'll talk to [head office] about it and see what can be done,' Chery Australia communications boss Tim Krieger told Australian media at the launch of the J8. The J8 is offered in three-row guise in other markets, with either a six-seat configuration with second-row captain's chairs (pictured below) or a seven-seat configuration with a second-row bench. Australian Government documents show the six-seat configuration has already been approved for sale in Australia. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Almost every other large, combustion-powered crossover SUV from a mass-market brand offers a third row of seating in Australia, with the only exceptions being the Mazda CX-70 and Subaru Outback. There's also potential for a plug-in hybrid version of the J8 which – combined with a third row of seating – would give Omoda Jaecoo a rival to PHEV versions of the Kia Sorento and Mazda CX-80. 'Based on what we've seen on how successful J7 has been, certainly we'd love to get a hybrid version. We're talking with the factory about this at the moment, but at launch we've only got the ICE variant,' said Mr Krieger. Revealed at last year's Beijing motor show as pictured below, the J8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is fitted with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors for total system outputs of 450kW and 915Nm. However, those seeking a medium-to-large plug-in hybrid SUV from Omoda Jaecoo showrooms won't have to wait for the J8 PHEV, if it ever eventuates here. In August, Chery's sister brand will launch the Omoda C9, which is set to be offered here with a PHEV powertrain incorporating three electric motors. It's among a flurry of new models being launched this year across Chery and Omoda Jaecoo showrooms.
