French prosecutors seek trial for PSG's Achraf Hakimi over rape allegation

Roya News6 days ago
French authorities are pushing for Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi to stand trial over allegations of rape stemming from an incident in 2023. Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has consistently denied the accusation.
On Friday, the prosecutor's office in Nanterre confirmed it had submitted a formal request for the case to proceed to criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine region.
"It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order," the office said in a statement to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The final call on whether the case advances to trial lies with the investigating judge, who is expected to review the evidence and determine the next steps in the legal process.

Michael Jackson's dirty stage sock sells for nearly $9K at French auction

A dirty white sock once worn by the King of Pop has moonwalked its way back into the spotlight. The rhinestone-covered sock, worn by Michael Jackson during a 1997 show in the city of Nîmes, sold Wednesday for €7,688 — about $8,911 — at an auction house in southern France. The off-white stained sock, originally white and studded with crystal rhinestones, was discovered by a technician backstage after Jackson's HIStory World Tour performance. The sock was then preserved in a frame for 28 years, according to a French auctioneer. 'It really is an exceptional object — even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,' auctioneer Aurore Illy told AFP. The sock was worn during Jackson's tour, which hit 35 countries and included 82 shows. Footage from it shows him performing 'Billie Jean' in the sparkling footwear. Auctioneers had estimated the item to be between €3,000 and €4,000, but it nearly doubled expectations. Though Jackson's legacy remains controversial due to longstanding child molestation allegations — which he and his estate denied — the market for his memorabilia continues to thrive. A Macau casino shelled out $350,000 in 2009 for the glittery glove he wore during his first televised moonwalk in 1983. In 2023, a Paris buyer paid over $80,000 for a fedora Jackson wore before that same performance. Months later, a black-and-white leather jacket from his 1984 Pepsi ad sold for $306,000.

Achraf Hakimi faces Rape trial amid alleged extortion plot and explosive text message leak

Published August 2nd, 2025 - 03:19 GMT ALBAWABA - Achraf Hakimi was referred to a criminal court on charges of raping a young woman. On Friday, August 1, 2025, the Nanterre Public Prosecutor's Office asked that Achraf Hakimi be taken to a criminal court on charges that he raped a young woman at his home in Paris in February 2023. The move was a shocking new development. A report from the public prosecutor to Agence France-Presse says that the player rejects this charge. Hakimi's lawyer, Fanny Colin, said that the prosecutor's requests are "incomprehensible and illogical given the evidence in the case." "Achraf and I are still as calm as we were when the proceedings began," she said. If these requests go through, we will definitely use all court options to make our case heard. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 05: Achraf Hakimi (Photo by Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images via AFP) AFP quoted the young woman's lawyer, Rachelle-Fleur Bardot, as saying, "My client received this news with great relief." There is no evidence in this case of an attempt to extort money. She said, "We will not tolerate any smear campaign, as is unfortunately the case all too often for women who show courage in reporting the rape they have suffered." Now that the new season has begun, Hakimi has been on holiday and hasn't said anything about the case. A statement from Kylian Mbappé in defense of Hakimi said, "Hakimi respects women, and I have never seen him behave in an inappropriate manner." — Le Parisien (@le_Parisien) August 1, 2025 Achraf Hakimi: "Someone tried to intimidate me into paying money." It is important to note that Achraf Hakimi was charged with rape and put under court supervision in March 2023 after a young woman said he raped her at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine). The player for Paris Saint-Germain has rejected the claim. He strongly rejected all the charges at the time, seeing what happened as a clear attempt to blackmail him. According to an interview he gave in January 2025, "The truth is that when you succeed, you become an easy target... and I was the victim of an extortion attempt." The young woman reported a rape to the Val-de-Marne police station at the end of February 2023. However, she did not file an official complaint. Police said at the time that she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023 and was picked up by a private car with a driver that the player had asked for. She then proceeded to his house. The same person also said that the complainant said Hakimi kissed her without her permission before raping her. She also said she was able to get him to leave by texting her friend and having them come pick her up in person. Was there a plot against Hakimi? According to L'Équipe, strange text messages were found on the phone. Nadia's friend used Emily's phone number and got messages saying things like "Come in like a femme fatale" and "We'll tie him up." These messages said that a group of women planned to charm and maybe rob the football player. Emily texted the player right before they met and said, "He's my type." When Nadia replied, she laughed and wrote, "Oh my God, you're dirty." To get rid of the other messages, Nadia asked Emily which ones she had sent to the cops as the situation got worse. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Chelsea loans defender Mamadou Sarr back to sister club Strasbourg for upcoming season

Ammon News - Premier League side Chelsea loaned teenage defender Mamadou Sarr back to sister club Strasbourg on Friday for the upcoming Ligue 1 season. The French club confirmed the loan move on its website, having sold the highly rated Sarr to Chelsea in June. Strasbourg is owned by the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital that bought Chelsea in 2022. The 19-year-old Sarr is a France under-20 international. He was a regular last season, playing 27 league games as Alsace-based Strasbourg finished in seventh place to seal a place in the Conference League playoffs. He previously played briefly for Lyon. Chelsea won the Conference League last season and will play in the Champions League after finishing in fourth place in the Premier League. Strasbourg was bought by Chelsea's ownership group, BlueCo, in 2023. Chelsea said Sarr had signed a contract until 2033 but didn't disclose the transfer fee. Strasbourg opens its league campaign at Metz on Aug. 17. AP
