With Airport Shut, MI vs PBKS IPL Clash In Dharamshala Faces Possibility Of Venue Change
The IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings to be held on Sunday in Dharamshala is set to be shifted to Mumbai after travel plans of the teams were thrown haywire following the temporary closure of the hill town's airport. Dharamsala's airport has been closed for operations indefinitely as a precautionary measure after India's missile strikes on Pakistan to dismantle terror infrastructure in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. "There is high possibility that the match will be shifted to Mumbai in case the airport remains shut," a BCCI source told PTI.
Dharamsala is due to host the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash on Thursday and that game will go ahead as scheduled given that both teams have touched base.
"We have not got any written intimation from either the BCCI, or the central and state governments about cancellation of tomorrow's match. Unless there is any official instruction, we are going ahead with the schedule," a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association source told PTI.
The picturesque city is the second home base of Punjab Kings.
"We have not been told about the venue change yet. We are waiting to hear from the BCCI," a Punjab Kings official said.
Delhi has very little time to figure out its logistics as the players have to be back in the national capital for their next game, against Gujarat Titans, which is also on Sunday. They could head back by road after the match.
"Everything is fluid at the moment. Discussions are on with franchises and they are also internally discussing about what are the options of travelling from Dharamsala to Delhi in case the airport remains shut," a BCCI source told PTI.
"One option (for Delhi Capitals) remains bus journey but then it is not just about teams but also the broadcast crew and equipment. It's an evolving situation," he added.
India carried out precision strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were murdered.
At least 18 airports in the northern and western parts of the country have been temporarily shut owing to the military escalation. These include Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala and Jamnagar.
Chandigarh, which is the nearest alternate airport for Dharamsala, is among those shut down for operations right now.
At the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's clash, Punjab Kings spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi said, "We are following BCCI's protocols. And whatever the BCCI recommends to us, the team management will act upon it." Delhi Capitals coach Hemang Badani said his team will adapt to the challenge.
"As cricketers and as people part of cricket environment, we're used to challenges, we're used to navigating and adapting as we go by.
"We have utmost faith in the BCCI and the IPL governing council to guide us through and give us the right directives. And as a side, we just adapt and move on," he said.

'I think he (Nair) has worked really hard. He's just worked his way back into the side. The number of runs he's got in First-Class cricket is incredible. 'And I met him during an IPL game. I said, 'Don't just bang the door. Just kick it down and make your way in and walk into that side'. And I think he's done just that. Just the number of runs that he's got has made the selectors look in that direction and give him a place,' Shastri added. In terms of bowling, Shastri prefers three pacers considering the conditions in Leeds. 'I know it'll be a tough one between Shardul (Thakur) and Nitish Reddy, but you have to see who bowls how much. If Reddy is going to give you 12, 14 overs, then he might get the nod because of his batting. BCCI pleas on arbitration awards dismissed in Kochi IPL franchise case
MUMBAI: In a setback for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with two arbitration awards, directing the cricket controlling body to pay ₹385.50 crore to Kochi Cricket Private Ltd (KCPL) and ₹153.34 crore to Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) in connection with the Kochi IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise. A single judge bench of Justice Riyaz Chagla rejected two arbitration petitions challenging separate arbitration awards passed in connection with franchise agreements executed with RSW in April 2010 and in March 2011 with KCPL – a joint venture between BCCI and RSW. Both the arbitral awards were passed on June 22, 2015. On September 19, 2011, BCCI terminated its franchise agreements with RSW and KCPL over non-furnishing of requisite bank guarantees contemplated under the agreements, after both invoked arbitration clauses. The arbitrator ruled in favour of the franchise owner and the joint venture, and directed the cricket controlling body to pay ₹385.50 crore to KCPL and ₹153.34 crore to RSW along with interest at the rate of 18% per annum. The BCCI challenged the award before the high court, contending that the arbitral award suffered from several errors apparent on the face of the record, misapplication of legal principles, and findings unsupported by evidence, warranting its setting aside under Section 34 of the Arbitration Act. TN Subramanian, senior counsel, appearing for the BCCI in one of the petitions, submitted that the impugned award having been passed in the arbitral proceedings commenced pursuant to the defective notice invoking arbitration, and hence cannot be sustained and ought to be set aside by the court. Senior counsel Vikram Nankani, appearing for RSW and KCPL argued that the BCCI's move of terminating the agreement was mala fide and that the arbitral award did not require interference by the court. 'There is no patent illegality in the impugned awards which requires any interference by this court,' the high court observed while dismissing BCCI's petitions. KCPL and RSW have been permitted to withdraw the sums deposited by the BCCI after a period of six weeks from the order on Tuesday, on the request of BCCI's senior counsel Rafiq Dada, to allow the cricket body time to file an appeal against the high court's ruling. BCCI officials were not available for comment. Secretary Devajit Saikia did not respond to HT'S query on whether BCCI intends to contest the ruling.

"I would go with three fast bowlers, (plus) Shardul Thakur. I know it'll be a tough one between Shardul and Nitish Reddy, but you have to see who bowls how much. If Reddy is going to give you 12, 14 overs, then he might get the nod because of his batting," said Shastri. "And the three fast bowlers would be, I would go with Prasid Krishna, I would go with Mohammed Siraj and of course Jasprit Bumrah.
