Dhaka: Bangladesh's top election body has locked the National Identity Cards (NIDs) of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her nine family members. The NIDs of the 10 individuals, including Hasina, were locked through an official letter on February 16, signed by ASM Humayun Kabir, director general of the National Identity Registration Wing at the Election Commission, Daily Star newspaper reported.The other members whose NIDs have been locked are Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed, daughter Saima Wazed, sister Sheikh Rehana Siddiq, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, Shaheen Siddiq, Bushra Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq and Tarique Ahmed Siddiq, state-run BSS news agency reported on Monday.According to officials, NID locking means its information can no longer be corrected, verified or changed. As the locked NIDs are unusable, Hasina and her nine family members will not get any NID-related services.Hasina, 77, has been living in India since August 5 last year, when she fled Bangladesh following large-scale anti-government protests that toppled her 16-year regime.The National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police recently submitted a request to the Interpol, seeking a red notice against 12 individuals, including Hasina.A red notice is used by Interpol to help locate and provisionally arrest individuals pending extradition or similar legal action.Hasina is accused of numerous charges like mass murders and crimes against humanity, enforced disappearances while these cases were being filed with Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal.

It urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle, stressing that Washington should 'handle Taiwan-related matters with caution' and work to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait as well as the broader U.S.-China relationship. Taiwan Detects Chinese Aircraft, Naval Vessels Near Its Territory Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported increased Chinese military activity near the island. By 6 a.m. local time on Saturday, the MND said it had tracked 21 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels operating in the vicinity of Taiwan. According to the ministry, 13 of those aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the island's northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). In a post on X, the MND stated: "21 sorties of PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 13 out of 21 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly." Just a day earlier, on Friday, Taiwan had also reported the presence of seven Chinese aircraft and two naval vessels near its territory. China On Taiwan China considers Taiwan a part of its territory and has vowed to 'reunify' the self-ruled, democratic island, even by force if required. US President Donald Trump on Friday said that Chinese President Xi Jinping told him that he would not invade Taiwan as long as Trump is president, per a report by Reuters. Speaking at an interview with Fox News, he said, "I will tell you, you know, you have a very similar thing with President Xi of China and Taiwan, but I don't believe there's any way it's going to happen as long as I'm here. President Xi told me that, and I said, 'Well, I appreciate that,' but he also said, 'But I am very patient, and China is very patient,'" Trump added. China considers Taiwan to be its own territory and has vowed to "reunify" with the democratic and separately governed island, by force if necessary.. However, Taiwan strongly objects to China's sovereignty claims. It is noteworthy that although the US is the primary arms supplier and international backer for Taiwan, the two countries have no formal diplomatic ties. The Chinese Embassy in Washington on Friday said that the topic of Taiwan is the "most important and sensitive issue" in China-US relations. "The US govt should adhere to the one-China principle and the three US-China joint communiqués, handle Taiwan-related issues prudently, and earnestly safeguard China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said in a statement.

Although the US is Taiwan's primary arms supplier and political backer, it does not maintain formal diplomatic relations with the island. Taiwan's government has yet to comment on Trump's remarks.
