Incredible city named cheapest in Europe for a summer city break with £1.64 pints

Tbilisi in Georgia has been named the cheapest city in Europe to visit - and it's a top spot for a summer city break with affordable hotels, food and drinks
For a summer getaway that won't leave you skint, one European city stands out from the crowd. Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, is an emerging hotspot with plenty to discover - and the best part is, it's still reasonably priced.

Research conducted by luggage storage firm Bounce reveals that Tbilisi is actually Europe's most affordable destination. The study examined average costs for accommodation, meals, beverages, and transport, as well as the number of free attractions in 70 of Europe's top cities to determine the most budget-friendly this year.

A weekend stay at a hotel in Tbilisi will only set you back £136, and a pint of local beer is a mere £1.64.

In addition to the inexpensive drinks and lodging, Tbilisi boasts numerous free attractions, including the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Bridge of Peace.
This stunningly overlooked city has a lot to offer.

The Cathedral's architecture is breathtaking, and there are also lovely gardens to wander around, perfect for a day of exploration.
The Bridge of Peace, another architectural marvel that spans the Mtkvari River, is lit up by thousands of LED lights at night, reports the Express.
After a day of sightseeing, you can enjoy a reasonably priced meal. Dining in Tbilisi is also quite affordable, with a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant costing less than £33.

You can also get two lunchtime meals at a budget-friendly restaurant for approximately £16.50.
If you find yourself in Georgia, you simply must sample Khachapuri - a traditional Georgian dish that's akin to pizza and absolutely scrumptious.
Another local favourite is Khinkali - these steamed dumplings, filled with rich Georgian spices, meat and broth, bear a resemblance to Chinese soup dumplings and are an absolute must-try when in Tbilisi.
Getting around the city won't break the bank either, with taxis charging the same for a 1km journey as the cost of a pint.
Public transport is even more affordable, with tickets averaging at a mere 27p.

I ate a Belgian dish at this Glasgow restaurant

And, despite the recent rain, temperatures in Glasgow have been reaching the high twenties - the perfect opportunity for an outdoor dinner. I was in the mood to try something new and came across Moules Mondays, a special offer Brel has on every week. So, after work, I grabbed my friend and we headed to the West End to try out their moules frites. This is a Belgian delicacy, consisting of steamed mussels and french fries, served with a dollop of dijon mayonnaise. Despite having originated in France, it was so popular in Belgium that it became their national dish. (Image: Newsquest) (Image: Newsquest) READ NEXT: I visited a hidden Glasgow gem - it was a European summer dream I had never tried it before - but I had eaten mussels and chips separately, so I knew roughly what to expect. Upon arrival, we were seated at the lovely outdoor terrace of the restaurant, and my friend and I both knew immediately what we wanted to order. As part of the deal, you get two portions of moules, two servings of frites with aioli and a bottle of house wine or sharing beer for £36. We decided to order the white wine. My mussels were seasoned with mariniere with cream and my friend chose the thai lemongrass and coriander flavour. Both of us were excited when the waitress appeared at the door with the large steaming pot of food. Our only issue was that the two-person table we were sitting at was not big enough for all of our food and drink. Clumsily, we moved things around until we were somewhat comfortable with the space. The mussels were deliciously flavoured and piping hot. Having tried both of our choices, I was delighted with the marinere sauce - made of lemon juice, parsley, butter and mayonnaise or creme fraiche. But the real highlight for both of us was the piece of soda bread we received on the side. It was dense, flavourful and just sweet enough. After spreading butter on it, we agreed that this was the best part. The dinner was great and left us almost full but something was missing. That's when we glanced at the dessert menu and decided to try their chocolate fondue. For the last half an hour, we were thoroughly entertained by dipping fruit, marshmallows and pieces of waffles. It was a delightful and sweet end to a wonderful evening on Ashton Lane.

And the best bit is they are perfect for people who are looking to avoid the crowds this summer. The new research, conducted by experts at Chicks Gold, scored UK locations out of 100 based on several factors. This included the cost of eating out, the average price of a local Airbnb, and transport costs in and around each town or city. The number of attractions in each area and the number of restaurants per 10,000 people were also taken into account. They then used this data to compile a list of the best ten locations, and three Scottish cities ranked high in the list. Staycations provide a stress-free alternative for those looking to simply relax on their summer holidays Al Alof Scotland is home to a number of wonderful places with gorgeous landscapes that are steeped in history - so it's no surprise that many receive nationwide attention. The top three staycation spots were all awarded to English cities, with Oxford coming in first with a score of 93.60. Coming in at a close second was York, which ended up with a score of 92.80. Rounding out the top three locations is Cambridge, which received a score of 91.40. I found the best staycation in Ireland with private pod, our own hot tub and alpacas and deer on site The first Scottish entry on the list is Aberdeen, and it comes in seventh place with an impressive score of 87.50. Dundee followed very closely behind in the eighth spot in the rankings after receiving a score of 87.40. Edinburgh came in last in the top ten staycation spots with a score of 85.70. Al Alof, the CEO of Chicks Gold, said: 'Thanks to the recent protests across Europe, some Brits may be feeling overwhelmed at the thought of navigating through the crowds of certain European hotspots this summer. "With Europe bracing for an unprecedented tourism boom this summer, it's likely that staycations will become a popular alternative over the next few months. 'While Brits aren't advised to cancel any holiday plans amid growing anti-tourism protests, it's important for travellers to consider whether there are any more viable options available rather than rushing to tourist hotspots. 'This study highlights that the UK certainly isn't short of top staycation destinations. "And they offer both affordability and endless attractions. "Staycations are rapidly becoming one of the most appealing options for UK travellers, because of both cost and convenience. "So, if you're looking to escape from the crowds and travel stress this summer, then don't underestimate the benefits of staying local.'
