
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi to Outline Vision for India's Renewable Energy Future
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 14: India's clean energy ambitions are set to take centre stage as Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Hon'ble Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, will attend the IVCA Renewable Energy Summit 2025 as Chief Guest and deliver the Keynote Address. The event, hosted by the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA), will take place on July 15 in Mumbai.
Bringing together leaders from across the private equity, venture capital, and alternative investment landscape, the summit is a national platform to galvanise climate-aligned private capital in support of India's energy transition goals. Organised in collaboration with Avendus, EAAA Alternatives, and Singularity Capital, the event will convene policymakers, institutional investors, family offices, climate-tech entrepreneurs, and financial innovators.
Speaking ahead of the event, Shri Pralhad Joshi said, "India's clean energy transformation is not just an environmental goal--it is a national mission. From renewable generation to battery storage and green manufacturing, private capital will be key to achieving our 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target by 2030. India's clean energy sector is witnessing unprecedented momentum. In 2024, renewables accounted for 83% of total power sector investments, while non-fossil fuel capacity climbed to 44%, underscoring the country's strong trajectory toward the 2030 target. India now ranks among the top three countries globally in renewable energy capacity addition.
As the government ramps up efforts to scale solar, wind, storage, and green hydrogen infrastructure, it has placed a renewed emphasis on public-private partnerships. Policy innovations, including viability gap funding for battery storage, incentives for offshore wind development, and grid expansion across new geographies, are designed to enable institutional capital participation at scale. This creates a clear opportunity for Private Equity, Venture Capital, and AIFs to partner in India's next phase of green growth.

Citing a report of IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency), Joshi said, "Rising installed capacity of renewables by India in 2024 helped save roughly Rs 4 lakh crore (more than USD 46 billion) in fossil fuel and pollution-related costs." Live Events He said over 58.7 lakh applications and 17.2 lakh completed installations under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which is also the world's largest domestic rooftop solar initiative. India is moving ahead with its goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030, Joshi said to the gathering of over 500, including industry executives, policymakers, and investors, government officials. The government is working on multidimensional approach to achieve the ambitious goal, he said. The government is working on strengthening power purchase agreements (PPAs) and has conducted zonal review meetings with several chief ministers and state DISCOMs on the issue, he said. Modernising the grid and enhancing storage, a viability gap funding scheme for 30 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has been approved. It will be supplementing the 13.2 GWh already in progress. This Rs 5,400-crore initiative is expected to mobilise Rs 33,000 crore in investments and meet the nation's BESS demand by 2028. Third, domestic manufacturing and innovation is being promoted through schemes like the PLI and ALMM initiative. "The Rs 24,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme is enabling India to build Atma Nirbharta in solar and wind manufacturing, The Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar PV cells will be implemented from June 2026," he said. The government is also working to facilitate land access and lastly ensuring financial stability and market confidence. On the Green Hydrogen Mission, he said incentives have already been awarded for 3,000 MW per annum of electrolyser manufacturing capacity. Over 8.6 lakh tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production capacity has been allocated. "With global dynamics shifting, India has a chance to take a much larger leadership role and seize greater market share," Raj Prabhu, CEO of US-based Mercom Capital Group, said.

Pass on benefits of import duty cuts in edible to consumers: Minister to industries
Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi has asked edible oil industry to be prompt on passing the benefits of duty reduction on crude edible oils to consumers to ensure that consumers experience a corresponding decrease in retail prices. He was addressing a round-table meeting organised by the Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association (IVPA) here on on Thursday (July 24, 2025). Mr. Joshi asked the IVPA members to focus on value addition through processing and refining, support innovation to increase efficiency and productivity. He said the industries can work with Primary Agricultural Credit Societies and Farmers' Producing Organisations to actively encourage precision agriculture, artificial intelligence in crop management, sustainable farming techniques, promote high-yield varieties of oilseeds and strengthen the post-harvest value chain. He said through policy innovation, increased investment in agri-tech, and public-private collaborations, India can remain competitive in the global vegetable oil market while securing domestic needs. The Minister said in the last ten years, production of oilseeds increased by 44% from 275 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in 2014-15 to 397 LMT in 2023-24 and yield increased by 22% from 1,075 kilograms per hectare in 2014-15 to 1,314 in 2023-24. 'Export of oil meals, oilseeds and minor oils was about 5.44 million tons in the financial year 2023-24 valued at ₹29,587 crore,' he said adding that India today stands at a critical juncture in the global edible oil trade, being one of the largest consumers and importer of vegetable oils. 'We import approximately 56% of our edible oil requirements,' he said. Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting that the Union government will notify a new order to regulate vegetable oil products with modern, transparent and technologically advanced provisions. The 2025 Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability Regulation Order, the secretary said, will replace the 2011. 'The associations have been consulted. It's in the final stages now, probably by next week it will be notified,' Mr. Chopra said.

Kishan Reddy thanks Centre for approving addl 450 MW solar plants to TG
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy thanked Union Minister for Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, for approving an additional 450 MW capacity for decentralised grid-connected solar power plants for the State of Telangana and allocating 20,000 solar agricultural pump sets to the State. Taking to socail media and sharing the post with the PM and the Jodhi, he said that the Union Government has brought the 'PM-Kusum' scheme in line with the ideas of the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi to promote the use of solar power in the agricultural sector, which will not only protect the environment but also reduce the burden of electricity on farmers. As part of this, 'I am grateful to the Union Minister for Renewable Energy, Shri @JoshiPralhad, for approving an additional 450 MW capacity for decentralised grid-connected solar power plants for the State of Telangana and allocating 20,000 solar agricultural pump sets to the State,' he said. Adding, it is going to be a golden opportunity for Telangana, in view of the state having vast potential for solar power generation. However, he criticised that despite the continuous encouragement provided by the Central Government, the State Government has failed miserably in implementing the PM-Kusum scheme in Telangana. Since this scheme is set to end in 2026, 'I request the Chief Minister of the state to at least take the initiative to come forward to protect the interests of Telangana and provide the benefits of the scheme to the farmers of the state.'
