Kevin Feige reveals Miles Morales not allowed in MCU, 'X-Men' casting update and more

Tom's Guidea day ago
Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige just gave a massive interview last Friday, laying out details about what to expect from the future of Marvel and what he thinks went wrong with the MCU in the past (h/t Variety).
Of course, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" arrives this week, meaning Marvel was going to be in the spotlight this week no matter what ( spoiler alert: early reactions are positive). But Feige's comments are significant enough that they are a must-read for any Marvel fan. No Miles Morales in the MCU yet — 'We've been told to stay away'
In this long-ranging interview, Feige covered Marvel's plans for the MCU between now and 2032, as well as what's gone wrong since "Avengers: Endgame." You may like
For me, though, the headline was this — don't expect Miles Morales in the MCU. That's coming from Feige himself, who said, 'That is nowhere," when asked about the other Spider-Man entering the MCU, adding, "We've been told to stay away."

On the one hand, that's a bummer. Sony and Marvel have teamed up to great effect with Tom Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" was a pleasant surprise on Disney Plus earlier this year. It stands to reason that they could produce similarly great stories with Miles Morales, who has become a fan favorite since his introduction to the Marvel universe.
On the other hand, it's tough to see where Miles would fit alongside Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU.
That's not to say it's impossible, and perhaps he could have been easily shoehorned into "Doomsday" or "Secret Wars," which are set to likely feature multiple iterations of the same character as the MCU careens towards a much-needed reset. But there's not a logical need for him to fill at present. Perhaps it's best that he wrap up his own story in 2027's 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,' and then Sony and Marvel can assess the future of the character.

While Miles Morales might not be joining the MCU anytime soon, Feige says that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is still on track to play the titular Daywalker in a "Blade" movie.
'We didn't want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires,' Feige explained during his sit-down with the media (h/t Variety). 'It had to be unique. It fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, 'Only accept insanely great.' And it ['Blade'] wasn't 'insanely great' at the time.'
But while things are still on track for "Blade," Feige was less forthright about a future "Young Avengers" property.
'Potentially,' Feige said, when asked about a future story centered around Marvel's young heroes. 'In that case, it comes down to where's the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that's what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.' A new cast of X-Men is coming
We already know that many past "X-Men" stars are returning for next year's 'Avengers: Doomsday.' Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer were all confirmed in an hours-long casting announcement.
But once that movie is over, a new cast of X-Men will star in an upcoming untitled 'X-Men' movie directed by Jake Schreier (of "Thunderbolts*" fame). They may even appear as soon as "Avengers: Secret Wars."
'We're utilizing that ['Secret Wars'] not just to round out the stories we've been telling post-'Endgame,'" Feige told those in attendance on Friday (h/t Variety). "Just as importantly — and you can look at the 'Secret Wars' comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future. 'Endgame,' literally, was about endings. 'Secret Wars' is about beginnings.'
Expect Marvel to go on the younger side for casting these roles, too, as Feige noted that X-Men stories naturally tend to center around adolescents.
The X-Men aren't the only major Marvel characters being recast either. Feige indicated that Marvel will ultimately recast Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in the MCU — it's just a matter of when. Expect less from Marvel — because less is more
(Image credit: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Images)
Finally, the biggest news Feige dropped in this press conference was that Marvel will be putting out less content — because it needs to.
'We produced 50 hours of stories between 2007 and 2019,' Feige said, when discussing how Marvel shifted from a focus on quality to a focus on quantity. "We've had well over 100 hours of stories — in half the time [in the six years since 'Avengers: Endgame']. That's too much.'
It's this that Feige blames for Marvel's flagging performance. 'It's clearly not superhero fatigue, right?' he said, referring to the fact that DC's "Superman" is doing just fine at the same box office where "Thunderbolts*" and other Marvel movies have struggled.
Speaking of "Thunderbolts*," Feige also blames the Disney Plus shows specifically for the movie's commercial failure.
''Thunderbolts*' I thought was a very, very good movie,' Feige told those assembled. 'But nobody knew that title and many of those characters were from a [TV] show. Some [audiences] were still feeling that notion of, 'I guess I had to have seen these other shows to understand who this is.'"
Feige wants to steer away from the importance of the Marvel shows in the MCU going forward, at least in regards to how they connect to the films. 'I think allowing a TV show to be a TV show is what we're returning to.'

Here's a look inside Disney Adventure, the company's largest cruise ship ever

Disney's largest cruise ship, Disney Adventure, will sail out of Singapore in December. Disney CEO Bob Iger said it's a chance for Disney's IP to "float" into the Southeast Asia market. The ship will have several attractions, including the "longest roller coaster at sea." Disney's betting big on Asia. CEO Bob Iger said Disney Adventure, the company's largest ship to date, is a real chance to expand into the Southeast Asian market. During Disney's Q3 earnings call, he described Disney Adventure as a floating ambassador for the company's intellectual property. "This will give us an opportunity to basically sell, or float, the Disney brand in all of its glory into a region that we think has huge Disney brand affinity," Iger said during Disney's Q3 earnings call. Disney Cruise Line has become an increasingly integral to the company's experiences division. It earned $347.3 million in profits last year, a notable step up from the $180.5 million earned in 2023. Disney Adventure is the seventh ship in Disney Cruise Line's fleet after Disney Wish set sail in 2022 and Disney Treasure in 2024. It can house an estimated 2,500 crew members and 6,700 passengers. Passengers on Disney Adventure will spend three to four nights immersed in their favorite Pixar, Marvel, and Disney stories. Disney Adventure, which sets sail on December 15, is dedicated to sea days. Here's a look at Disney Adventure. Wayfinder Bay is one of seven themed areas on Disney Adventure. Disney went all in when designing its first cruise ship with a homeport in Asia. Disney Adventure houses seven themed areas: Disney Imagination Garden, Town Square, San Fransokyo Street, Toy Story Place, Disney Discovery Reef, Marvel Landing, and Wayfinder Bay. Wayfinder Bay is an outdoor space inspired by Disney's "Moana" that features a bar and wading pool. The pool area doubles as a performance venue where guests can watch live shows like "Moana: Call of the Sea." Take a splash in Disney Discovery Reef. Disney Discovery Reef, a themed area in the back of the ship, draws from films like "The Little Mermaid" and "Finding Nemo" to explore the company's underwater stories. This area features numerous shopping and food options for guests, including Palo Café, a coffee bar inspired by the coastal town in Pixar's "Luca." Marvel fans can also find Cosmic Kebabs, a restaurant serving pitas and kebabs inspired by Marvel's "Ms. Marvel." The Avengers are on display at Marvel Landing. Disney Adventure is bringing Marvel superheroes to the sea. Marvel Landing is on the ship's upper deck, where three attractions are available to guests: Groot Galaxy Spin, Pym Quantum Racers, and Ironcycle Test Run. Ironcycle Test Run is Disney's first-ever cruise ship roller coaster. It's also the "longest roller coaster at sea" at over 820 feet long, according to the company. Woody and the "Toy Story" gang hang out on the upper deck. Fans of Disney's "Toy Story" franchise will feel right at home on Disney Adventure. Toy Story Place is a water wonderland for families with several options, including Sunnyside Family Pool, the Flying Saucer Splash Zone, and whirlpools. The area also welcomes passengers to zoom down Woody and Jessie's Wild Slides. San Francisco meets Tokyo in an area inspired by "Big Hero 6." Disney Adventure will feature an area that combines the "vibrant energy" of Tokyo with the "laid-back charm of San Francisco" in a nod to "Big Hero 6." Passengers can visit San Fransokyo Street to catch a film at Baymax Cinemas or participate in an immersive training simulator at the Big Hero Arcade. They can also stop by Duffy and Friends Shop and enter the Duffy and Friends Discovery Quest, which asks passengers to use clues to find lost items and potentially win a prize. Disney Adventure has multiple dining options for passengers. The cruise ship has two entertainment restaurants, including Hollywood Spotlight Club, where passengers can dine while interacting with Disney characters like Daisy Duck and Mickey Mouse. Other options include the Enchanted Summer Restaurant, inspired by Disney's Tangled and Frozen films, and Pixar Market Restaurant, which pays homage to the studios' films. Mowgli's Eatery, Stitch's 'Ohana Grill, Bewitching Boba and Brews, and Mike & Sulley's — Flavors of Asia are also places to try. Disney Adventure has venues geared for adults. Although Disney Adventure offers family fun, specific venues were made for the 18+ crowd. Palo Trattoria is an adults-only Italian restaurant between Disney Discovery Reef and Wayfinder Bay. Inspired by the "Peter Pan" villain Captain Hook, Buccaneer Bar is a lounge where adults can unwind and relax. Watch a production or two at the Walt Disney Theatre. The Walt Disney Theatre will put on two productions for passengers on Disney Adventure. "Remember" is a musical starring the robots from Disney-Pixar's "Wall-E" and other characters. "Disney Seas the Adventure" is a musical featuring songs and characters from Disney's catalog. The theatre is in Town Square, which is inspired by Disney's vast collection of princesses and fairy tales. Sweat it out with Baymax in the Disney Imagination Garden. The Disney Imagination Garden, another themed area, features a stage with three deck screens. Among the interactive shows appearing on that stage is the Baymax Super Exercise Expo, a musical exercise show inspired by "Big Hero 6." Passengers can also watch shows like Captain Jack Sparrow & the Siren Queen and Mickey's Color Spin Dance Party. After a long day, get some sleep in one of Disney Adventure's staterooms. Disney said most staterooms include a split-bathroom concept, elevated bed frames, and a menu highlighting essentials for families with small children. "Each stateroom will feature thoughtful amenities, family-friendly conveniences and special Disney touches," the company said in a blog post. Passengers looking for a particularly elegant trip can take advantage of the concierge experience, which offers exclusive perks like priority boarding.

"In the 19th century, gunshot wounds from up close were extremely dangerous," Spector told the media outlet. "Many people didn't survive them. Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Hints What Happens To Old Thunderbolts

Avengers: Doomsday is gaining momentum as new rumors tease multiversal travel and surprising alliances. Reports suggest a key Thunderbolts member will accompany Captain America's team to another universe, sparking talk of a larger crossover. With returning heroes and familiar faces from across the MCU, early details are already generating buzz. Avengers: Doomsday rumor teases Yelena and Sam traveling to a new universe A new rumor shared by insider Daniel Richtman suggests that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) will accompany Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) Avengers team in Avengers: Doomsday during a mission to another universe. Richtman clarified on social media that Belova is 'not part of Sam's team' but will travel with them during their multiversal journey. This clarification follows earlier speculation from a May 2025 report that placed Yelena on Captain America's roster. Although the full script for Avengers: Doomsday reportedly remains incomplete, the new development hints at a crossover between the Thunderbolts and Avengers. Richtman's update prompts speculation about whether Sam's team will include other Thunderbolts members. These could include U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), or Red Guardian (David Harbour). Leaving them behind may not fit the narrative. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously hinted that the Avengers will appear at the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building on Earth-828. This suggests that Sam's team, possibly joined by Yelena and other Thunderbolts, will travel to that alternate universe as part of the multiverse storyline. The cast list includes characters from both the mainline MCU and Fox's X-Men universe, including Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Sentry (Lewis Pullman), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr). Rebecca Romijn, who plays Mystique, confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the script has not yet been finalized and said, 'The script hasn't — they haven't finished writing it… They keep everything very close to the vest.' Marvel Studios plans to release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026. Anthony and Joe Russo will direct the film, marking their return to the MCU after directing Avengers: Endgame.
