‘I'm coming home': EastEnders star Jake Wood to return to soap as Max Branning
The 52-year-old left the soap in 2021 when his character's affair with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) ended, after she revealed her true feelings for her husband Mick (Danny Dyer).

Max's return to the soap comes after it was announced that his son Oscar would also return to the soap, played by Pierre Moullier, after eight years away, having previously been portrayed by Gabriel Miller-Williams, Neo Hall and Charlee Hall.

Wood said: 'I'm over the moon to be coming home to Walford. Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I'm sure he'll be busy.
'I'm excited to see what he's been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the square are anything to go by, I'm sure there will be plenty of chaos.'
One of Max's best-known storylines in the soap saw his long-running affair with daughter-in-law Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) revealed on Christmas Day in 2007, while he was dressed as Father Christmas.

Max will return to Albert Square to find his daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) expected to marry into the Beales, Stacey widowed, and a secret daughter with ex-lover Linda yet to be discovered.
Speaking on the Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, Wood said his return to the show was 'quite emotional' and added it felt 'like a very warm hug'.
He said: 'I just felt like it was the right time.
'I spoke to so many people there, they're just loving being there at the moment. I had a meeting with the new executive, Ben Wadey, back in January, and we went for lunch, and he just sort of outlined all of his ideas.'

He continued: 'There's just so many characters that Max has got drama with, so it felt like the right time to go back and mix things up a bit.'
Wood went on to say his character's return would be 'high, high, high drama' and added that it would not be 'friendly and warm'.
EastEnders executive producer Wadey said: 'I'm delighted to welcome the immensely talented Jake Wood back to the role of Max Branning.
'Whilst his character has only been away from Albert Square for four years, Walford, and the lives of those who live in it, have changed immensely.

'Max has a lot of unfinished business, but whether he is welcomed by his family remains to be seen.
'However, with a past as chequered as Max's, it's fair to say that many Walford residents will not be pleased to see him, putting the Brannings back at the heart of the square, and the drama, this year.'
Wood's character first arrived in Walford in June 2006, bringing his then-wife Tanya and their daughters Lauren and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) with him.
Max will return briefly in autumn, before making a permanent return later in the year.

Match of the Day line-up confirmed for first show since Gary Lineker's BBC exit
Match of the Day returns this week with the 2025/26 Premier League season set to kick off and the BBC programme is set to look very different in their first broadcast of the campaign Match of the Day is set to return this weekend with a brand-new line up, with Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer set to play pivotal roles. The BBC programme returns to screens on Saturday to coincide with the start of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign. And while the highlights show retains its hugely popular format, it's set to look very different. Long-serving host Gary Lineker departed at the end of last season, bringing to an end a near three-decade stint at the helm. The BBC confirmed who would be taking the reins from the England icon shortly afterwards. MOTD2 host Mark Chapman is set to share the role alongside Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates. And it's now been revealed who will be fronting coverage this weekend. Chapman will reportedly lead the first show of the new campaign having presented the show's Sunday spin-off since 2013. Chapman will be supported by former strikers Shearer and Rooney, who have been pencilled in for punditry roles, according to The Sun. The Newcastle icon has been a regular guest on the programme, while Rooney now appears to be focusing on his punditry career after his disastrous spell with Plymouth Argyle was ended in December last year. Away from the flagship show, Cates' Match of the Day debut has been planned for this Wednesday. She will lead coverage of the highlights of Tottenham Hotspur's UEFA Super Cup clash with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The BBC announced on January 15 that Cates, Chapman and Logan would be the new presenting team. The news came following weeks of speculation about who would take over from Lineker after he said last year that he was stepping down. The 64-year-old had long intended the final Match of the Day of last season, on May 26, to be the last time he would present the highlights programme but he was planning to stay on to front the BBC's live coverage of the FA Cup and 2026 World Cup. Earlier in the month however he announced he was bringing forward his departure following a social media row in which he shared a post about Zionism featuring a depiction of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic trope. Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter and host of Match of the Day since 1999, apologised unreservedly for the post but said it was 'best for all concerned' if he left completely. Cates has been a presenter with Sky Sports since 2016, fronting coverage of the Premier League. She will continue her role with Sky. Elsewhere, Logan has long been with the BBC having already presented Match of the Day in Lineker's absence on a host of occasions.

Tulisa claims a police officer mimed oral sex gestures at her when she was on trial for drug sting: 'It felt like I was up there for everyone's entertainment'
Tulisa Contostavlos has claimed a police officer made obscene gestures towards her while she was on trial for a drugs sting. In 2013, the singer was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, with her trial being held the following year at Southwark Crown Court. Detailing the ordeal in her upcoming book, Judgement, she penned: she 'felt like an animal in a cage, for everyone's entertainment.' Reflecting on the time in a chat with Cosmopolitan, the magazine noted: 'A police officer even mouthed b***job signals at her, while she sat in the dock.' The impact of the trial also left Tulisa with PTSD, with the singer noting that if she had to go through all the coverage of her trial she would 'have a nervous breakdown.' She explained: 'There was, an actual, very serious [suicide] attempt. There was also this moment of real depression where I was driving in my car, hysterically crying, and there was so much trauma that I had an out of body experience. 'It was like my brain was going so nuts that I had to physically detach the two.' A Met Police spokesperson told Daily Mail: 'We are unaware of this allegation from 2016, which has not been reported to us. 'We would encourage the complainant to make a report so we can investigate.' Following the trial, Tulisa spent more than a decade out of the public eye after it was ruled the infamous Fake Sheikh had trapped her in the drug sting. Mazher Mahmood, also known as the Fake Sheik, a former journalist for the Sun on Sunday was jailed for 15 months for perverting the course of justice after he tricked Tulisa into buying cocaine for him while he posed as a film producer. Since she stood on the steps of Southwark Crown Court in 2014 vindicated and condemned the 'horrific entrapment' from Mahmood, Tulisa has remained largely out of the spotlight, save an N-Dubz tour in 2022. She made her career comeback last year with a stint on I'm A Celebrity, in which she opened up about the lasting impact of the trial. Tulisa explained: 'I lost all my endorsements… my life fell apart.' Ahead of appearing in the Jungle, she said: 'There's nothing worse in that jungle than what happened in 2013.' She said: 'Every time I think, you know, this is going to be hard, I think I've done it, I can do it. 'And then I just got to the point, well, going on television again is the most uncomfortable situation I could possibly put myself in. 'And I feel like I've been on this kind of healing cycle for the past 11 years, really, since all the crap, since X Factor, since the trial. 'And this, for me, would complete the cycle, because it's the last thing on the list is this overwhelming fear that I have or have had. I'm not feeling it today, but overall, of this fear of being on especially TV.' The case was brought against Mahmood after Tulisa was accused of arranging for him to be sold £800 of cocaine by one of her contacts following an elaborate sting for the Sun on Sunday newspaper in May 2013. The trial had heard that 'King of the Sting' Mahmood and his driver, Alan Smith conspired to suppress evidence in the N-Dubz star's trial, which was thrown out at Southwark Crown Court in July 2014. During a meeting at the Metropolitan Hotel in London, Mahmood posed as a film producer and plied the popstar with alcohol as they discussed an acting role alongside Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. As Smith drove the former X Factor judge home to Hertfordshire, she allegedly spoke about a family member who had a drug problem. When he was interviewed by police about the journey more than a year later, Smith, of Dereham, Norfolk, recalled the conversation. But a day later, after speaking to Mahmood and emailing his draft statement, the singer's anti-drugs comments were removed, the court heard. At a pre-trial hearing, Mahmood denied being an 'agent provocateur' or that he discussed the drugs conversation with Smith. But when he was questioned at length in the trial, Mahmood appeared to concede he had talked to Smith about what Miss Contostavlos said about drugs in the car. The case was subsequently thrown out. The following 10 years were 'hell' for Tulisa who had an entire future ahead of her ruined by the sting. Speaking about the ordeal, the I Need You singer said: 'Honestly, I can't tell you. 'Sure, at times it's been horrific for me at moments in the past 10 years, but that's just not the perspective that I have now. I take it all as knowledge.' 'Knowledge Is power and ultimately a blessing because I wouldn't be where I am without it, I wouldn't change a thing. 'I don't think I would have been able to do this unless I was feeling in such a strong content place. So it could only have been now. It couldn't have been before.'
