IPOH: A senior citizen lost RM158,000 after being duped by a phone scam syndicate. Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 73-year-old male victim claimed to have received a call from an insurance company to inform him that he had arrears, after which the call was transferred to a man claiming to be a police officer from the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters. "The victim was told that he was involved in a money laundering involving more than RM2mil, and an arrest warrant had been issued. Cops seize cannabis and ketamine after arresting foreigners, college students in Subang Jaya private party
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — Police arrested 38 individuals, including private college students and foreigners, at a private party at a luxury residence in Subang Jaya at just after midnight. Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said 6.5 grams (g) of cannabis and 1.7 g of ketamine were also seized during the operation at 12.30 am. "Those arrested were from 18 to 27, including 13 foreigners while four, aged 21 to 25, are suspected of being involved in drug trafficking,' he said in a statement here today, adding that 12 suspects, nine locals and three foreigners, tested positive for drugs. Teen drowns in Segamat River, body found 5km from last seen spot
SEGAMAT, July 21 — A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Sungai Segamat, behind a recreational park here, yesterday. Segamat Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Mohd Hazim Abd Razak said they were alerted to the incident at 4.08 pm. According to him, 11 personnel from Segamat BBP, along with four assets, namely a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), two four-wheel-drive vehicles and a boat, were dispatched to the scene. He said the victim's body was found along the riverbank about five kilometres from where he was reported to have gone missing. The search operation ended at 6.40 pm. — Bernama
