Marvel extends Glasgow shoot for new Spider-Man movie

Glasgow Times6 days ago
The Marvel movie, set for release next year, is being filmed in several parts of the city, including Bothwell Street, Glassford Street and St Vincent Street.
The streets of Glasgow city centre have been redesigned in the image of New York as filming for the new Spider-Man movie takes place.
US flags and banners have been draped on the sides of buildings, and Big Apple-style street furniture and food stalls lines the streets alongside New York Police Department cars, buses, and now-iconic yellow taxis.
On Sunday, Tom Holland, who is reprising his role as Spider-Man, was spotted filming scenes while clad in the web-slinger's famous suit.
Spider-Man 4, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, follows the huge success of 2021's No Way Home, which grossed $1.9bn worldwide - making it the sixth highest-grossing movie in history.
Filming began in Glasgow on August 1 and was originally expected to continue until August 15.
However, The Herald can exclusively reveal that Marvel has secured permission from Glasgow City Council to extend the shoot.
Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day will now continue until August 26 - 11 days longer than was previously anticipated.

Our sister title, The Herald, understands that filming will continue in the Merchant City area of the city until August 18, before halting for a few days and then picking up again from August 21 until August 26.
Road restrictions indicate that production will move to Hutchison Street from August 16 to August 18, before taking over Cochrane Street, John Street, South Frederick Street and Montrose Street from August 21 to August 26.
Glasgow City Council has now revised its list of traffic restrictions in place in the city centre to accommodate the shoot being extended:
Prohibition of vehicle movements
09:00hrs on the 22 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on the 26 August 2025
Cochrane Street for its full length
John Street between Ingram Street and Cochrane Street
South Frederick Street, southbound only, for its full length
Prohibition of vehicle movements
05:00hrs on the 22 August 2025 to 22:00hrs on the 24 August 2025
John Street between George Street and Cochrane Street
Prohibition of vehicle movements
07:00hrs on the 25 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on the 26 August 2025
Montrose Street between George Street and Ingram Street
Prohibition of waiting, loading and unloading
15:00hrs on 21 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on 26 August 2025
Cochrane Street for its full length
Montrose Street between George Street and Ingram Street
Plot details remain for the movie remain under wraps, but long-time Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, teased what we can expect from the story during an appearance on a podcast in December last year.
She said: 'We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker [in No Way Home], and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.'
The forthcoming movie marks the fourth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man franchise, and creators have said it will see a change in tone when compared with the previous three movies, which were released in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: 'While we cannot comment on individual productions, the council's Glasgow Film Office is in constant dialogue with film, broadcast and advertising productions of all sizes who are interested in filming in the city to establish how we can support them.
"These productions bring a significant economic benefit to Glasgow, and have helped to steadily grow the capacity of our film and broadcast sector in recent years, as seen in new facilities such as the Kelvin Hall studio.'

Danielle Lloyd stuns in a hot pink dress as she joins chic Vanessa Feltz after an appearance on her talk show - following her shock cancer diagnosis

Danielle Lloyd looked incredible as she stepped out with Vanessa Feltz after an appearance on her talk show on Tuesday. The model, 41, turned heads in a hot pink drop-waist mini dress that showed off her toned pins. She draped a denim jacket over her shoulders and teamed it with a pair of hot pink Chanel flats. Completing the look, she carried a matching pink Birkin bag, worth upwards of £30k. Meanwhile, Vanessa, 63, looked chic in a white summer dress adorned with fun beach-themed embroidery. She shielded her eyes with a pair of pink sunglasses and accessorised with matching pink jewellery. The model, 41, turned heads in a hot pink drop-waist mini dress that showed off her toned pins The pair appeared in great spirits as they laughed and chatted while leaving the studio. Her appearance on the show comes after Daneille revealed how she overhauled her health and lost two stone with the help of Pilates after her terrifying health woes. She was diagnosed with the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma, in February, which left her in such fear for her life that she struggled to eat and sleep. Danielle, who is now cancer free, told The Sun last month: 'Being a mum, I was trying to put a brave face on for everyone, but inside I've been crumbling. I was worried every single day that I was going to die.' She is mum to five children - sharing son Ronnie, seven, and three-year-old daughter Autumn Rose, with husband Michael O'Neill, as well as sons Archie, 14, Harry, 13, and George, 11, with ex-husband Jamie O'Hara. Symptoms of melanoma include a new mole or changes to an existing mole, which is exactly what happened to the star, when she noticed one on her collarbone was changing shape. After tragically losing a friend to bowel cancer the previous year, she knew it was worth investigating and visited her GP, who referred her onto a dermatologist who advised removal. This took place in December, but Danielle had to wait an agonising nine weeks before she was diagnosed. She shielded her eyes with a pair of pink sunglasses and accessorised with matching pink jewellery Recalling her reaction, she said: 'I just burst into tears. I wasn't expecting it. When I heard the word 'cancer', I just thought, "That's it, I'm going to die."' She then had to have the skin surrounding the mole removed as a preventative measure as doctors worked to establish whether or not the cancer had spread. Thankfully, eight weeks after her February procedure, Danielle was told she was cancer free. She announced her diagnosis to her followers in a tearful video on Instagram in February, where she recalled how she'd noticed a change to one of her moles. She explained that she told her oldest three kids about her diagnosis, but refrained from telling the two little ones, because they were too young to understand and worried they'd jump to worse conclusion. 'It was difficult telling the older boys, Harry asked me if my hair was going to fall out. 'It's hard because they're still young, so I don't know if they fully understand - which is a good thing because I don't want to put a strain on them.' It is not the first time Danielle has had a cancer scare as she was rushed to hospital in 2023 after suffering from heavy bleeding. Doctors then discovered she had large cysts on her ovaries, but was thankfully told they were non-cancerous after undergoing a biopsy. She also found a lump in her breast last year and was given the all-clear in October after a biopsy discovered the lump was benign. What is malignant melanoma? Malignant melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that begins in melanocytes, cells found in the upper layer of skin that produce melanin, which gives skin its colour. While less common that other types of skin cancer, it is more dangerous because of its ability to spread to other organs more rapidly if it is not treated at an early stage. Symptoms A new mole or a change in an existing mole may be signs of melanoma. Melanomas can appear anywhere on your body, but they're more common in areas that are often exposed to the sun. Some rarer types can affect the eyes, soles of the feet, palms of the hands or genitals. Check your skin for any unusual changes. Use a mirror or ask a partner or friend to check any areas you cannot see. In particular, look for: Moles with an uneven shape or edges Moles with a mix of colours Large moles - melanomas often tend to be more than 6mm wide Moles that change size, shape or colour over time Causes Ultraviolet (UV) light is the most common cause of melanoma. It comes from the sun and is used in sunbeds. Melanoma is more common in older people, but younger people can also get it. You're also more likely to get melanoma if you have: Pale skin that burns easily in the sun Red or blonde hair Blue or green eyes A large number of freckles or moles Had a lot of sun exposure and you've had sunburn a lot in the past Used sunbeds a lot A history of skin cancer in your family or you've had skin cancer before If you have black or brown skin, you have a lower chance of getting melanoma, but you can still get it. Prevention Staying safe in the sun is the best way to lower your chance of getting skin cancer (both melanoma and non-melanoma). Do the following: Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (11am to 3pm in the UK) Keep your arms and legs covered and wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses that provide protection against ultraviolet (UV) rays Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 and at least 4-star UVA protection – make sure you reapply it regularly Make sure babies and children are protected from the sun – their skin is much more sensitive than adult skin Treatment Melanoma skin cancer can often be treated. The treatment you have will depend on where it is, if it has spread and your general health. Surgery is the main treatment for melanoma. Radiotherapy, medicines and chemotherapy are also sometimes used. Surgery could involve removing the melanoma and an area of healthy skin around it, swollen lymph nodes if the cancer has spread to them and other parts of the body if it has spread to them. If a large part of skin has to be removed, a skin graft might be needed which could see kin taken from another part of the body to cover the area where the melanoma was. Radiotherpay is sometimes used to reduce the size of large melanomas and help control and relieve symptoms. Targeted medicines and immotherapy are used to treat melanomas that can't be dealt with by surgery, or have spread to lymph glands or other parts of the body. Chemotherapy, which kills cancer cells, is sometimes used to treat advanced melanoma when it has spread to another part of the body. It does not work as well as other treatments, but can be used if you are unable to have them. How dangerous is it? Generally for people with melanoma in England: almost all people (almost 100%) will survive their melanoma for 1 year or more after they are diagnosed around 90 out of every 100 people (around 90%) will survive their melanoma for 5 years or more after diagnosis more than 85 out of every 100 people (more than 85%) will survive their melanoma for 10 years or more after they are diagnosed

Roy Keane makes final decision on Sky Sports return after 'quit' threat and two incidents

Sky Sports have announced their plans for the 2025/26 Premier League season - and they will include star pundit Roy Keane, despite him recently saying he might quit Roy Keane will return to our screens this season after Sky Sports made changes to keep their star pundit happy. ‌ Keane has been one of the biggest names in the Sky studio for their Premier League coverage in recent years. The former Manchester United captain has established a reputation as one of the most outspoken commentators on the game while winning over fans with his dry sense of humour. ‌ However, the Irishman voiced his displeasure with some aspects of the role last season and has outlined his plans to move abroad in the coming years. Keane was headbutted by an Arsenal supporter while working for Sky Sports at the Emirates Stadium in September 2023 and was involved in a row with an Ipswich fan in November 2024. ‌ After signing him up for another season, his employers have promised not to put him in harm's way again. 'It's our responsibility to make sure we don't expose any of our team to those sorts of incidents,' said Jonathan Licht, Sky's chief sports officer. 'He loves being part of the big games and we hope that will continue long into this deal.' Gary Hughes, director of football at Sky Sports, added: 'Roy is a great guy, you want him on your team. He's had a few incidents in the last couple of seasons, with Arsenal and Ipswich, and it does affect him. But ultimately he wants to be involved in the biggest games. He wants to be at Old Trafford for Manchester United against Arsenal.' The news of Keane's retention comes as Sky announced their new-look plan for the 2025/26 Premier League season, in which they will show 215 matches – up from 128 last season. The broadcaster will share presenters Kelly Cates and Mark Chapman with BBC 's Match of the Day, with the main change seeing an NFL Red Zone-style 'Multiview' brought in. The idea will see as many as five games shown live at once, with pundits jumping from match to match. There is also a new reaction show called Extra Time, which will be fronted by Jamie Carragher. Keeping Keane is undoubtedly a boost for Sky Sports after his comments over the past years. Speaking on the Overlap, while in Turin, he said: "In the next couple of years, I reckon I will be moving abroad... putting it out there'. Asked where he replied: "Do you know what, Switzerland, maybe? Switzerland is beautiful." ‌ Meanwhile, last August, Keane expressed his intention to retire from punditry within the next decade. He said: "I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans. "I was in court a few months ago with somebody headbutting me… do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not. The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name good stuff, bad stuff it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, no."
