Billy Joel Announces 'Turn the Lights Back On,' the Piano Man's 1st New Song in 17 Years
The 'Piano Man' singer, 76, announced via Instagram on Friday, May 23, that he was cancelling 'all scheduled concerts' due to being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).
NPH is a 'brain disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain's ventricles, which are fluid-filled chambers,' according to the Alzheimer's Association. 'As brain ventricles enlarge with the excess CSF, they can disrupt and damage nearby brain tissue, leading to difficulty walking, problems with thinking and reasoning, and loss of bladder control.'
Billy's team explained via Instagram that NPH has caused 'problems with hearing, vision, and balance,' which impacted other recent live performances. His doctors have now recommended that Billy stop performing while he undergoes 'specific physical therapy.' (Joel last performed at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut in February.)
'He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take to the stage,' his representatives said.
Billy added in his own statement, 'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience. Thank you for understanding.'
In total, Billy cancelled 17 concerts that were supposed to take place in both the U.S. and England throughout the rest of the year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee previously postponed multiple summer stadium concerts in March. At the time, Billy's team simply said he was dealing with a 'medical condition' and that 'health must come first,' but stressed that the musician was 'expected to make a full recovery.'
'I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.,' the musician said in March.

'Everybody in the world knows when you play The Garden, it's not just New York,' Billy said at the time. 'To our audience, I want to thank them for coming to our shows for this long. It's hard to end, even at 150 lifetime shows. I just want to thank everyone for the wonderful thing that's happened here.'

Jessie J reveals ‘early' breast cancer diagnosis
Jessie J revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The singer revealed the diagnosis to her 13.9 million Instagram followers on Tuesday night after 'going back and forth a little bit' on whether she should share it or not. However, the 37-year-old wanted to share it with her fans and the people who care about her. 'Before 'No Secrets' came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,' she explained. 'I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I'm holding on to the word early.' Jessie's latest album, 'No Secrets,' was released on May 16, her first album in four years. For the past few months, she's been 'in and out of tests' and she wanted to be open and share her health update because she doesn't 'talk about it enough,' and that she's been working so hard that she hasn't processed it herself. 'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories,' she continued. 'I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse, that's the bit that kills me.' The 'Domino' singer did attempt to make light of the whole ordeal. 'I'm getting to keep my nipples. That's good,' she said lightly. 'It's a weird topic and a weird situation.' She found it ironic that she was releasing a song called 'No Secrets' and 'Living My Best Life,' both of which were planned before she found out about her diagnosis. Before ending her video, she was able to crack a joke. 'I mean, you can't make it up. It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job,' she said. 'I am going to disappear for a bit after summertime ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t-ts and more music.' Many of Jessie's celebrity friends offered words of support in the post's comment section. 'Love you! We all are sending healing energy to youuu… excited for the massive t-ts and more music,' wrote Katy Perry. 'You're literally my favourite person, and I'm praying for you,' wrote Rita Ora. 'You've got this. My mother had it, and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough, so I'm here for you.' 'Big love,' wrote Chelsea Handler. Country singer Major wrote, 'MASSIVE LOVE, Sister J! Praying for full recovery, keeping of your mind, spirit, & family. YOU GOT THIS!' 'I'm praying for you,' wrote Amber 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
