EGA, ENEC deliver first aluminium produced with carbon-free nuclear energy

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) today announced the UAE's first delivery of low-carbon aluminium using electricity generated at Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. EGA is marketing this type of low-carbon aluminium under the product brand MinimAL. The metal will be supplied to CANEX Aluminum, Egypt's leading aluminium downstream producer. EGA's new product positions the UAE as a reliable supplier of low-carbon industrial materials to global markets and expands EGA's low-carbon metal portfolio for our local and global customers. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, said, 'This milestone shows how nuclear energy is boosting national energy security and enabling the UAE's industrial decarbonisation in parallel, reliably powering energy-intensive sectors like aluminium production with clean electricity 24/7. Through the abundant electricity generated at Barakah, we have unlocked the significant, proven and long-term benefits of nuclear energy to power the UAE's low-carbon economy for decades to come.' Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said, 'Global demand for low carbon aluminium is expected to triple by 2040, and EGA aims to play an important role in this growth. MinimAL is our latest low-carbon product, made possible through the UAE's investment in nuclear power generation. We are glad to be working with ENEC to supply more low carbon aluminium to the world.' Mutassem Daaboul, Managing Director of CANEX Aluminum, said, 'At CANEX, we believe true sustainability is built into every layer of production - from the raw material to the final product. Our upcycling model already transforms waste into value-added products. Now, with MinimAL, we are taking another step forward by reducing embedded emissions at the very beginning of our process.' The clean electricity is certified through the UAE's Clean Energy Certification programme using International REC Standard (I-REC) protocols to ensure traceability and credibility. The power is supplied through Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) via the national grid. The Barakah plant generates 40 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, which is around 25 per cent of the UAE's electricity needs, and equivalent to the annual total power demand of Switzerland. Carbon-free electricity from Barakah avoids 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to removing 4.8 million cars from the road. EGA was the first company globally to produce aluminium using solar power, with 80 thousand tonnes of CelestiAL made in 2024. EGA also produces recycled aluminium, marketed under the product brand RevivAL, at its plants in the United States and Germany. In the UAE, EGA is building the UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah. The facility is expected to start production in the first half of 2026.

Phoenix Group PLC (ADX: PHX), an IHC portfolio company and a global leader in blockchain and digital asset infrastructure, has been featured in a new research report from H.C. Wainwright & Co. Independent equity analysts at H.C. Wainwright & Co. have assigned Phoenix Group a Buy rating and Dh3.00 price target, recognising its evolution beyond mining into high-growth AI and HPC infrastructure. Based on the August 4, 2025, closing price of Dh1.48, the report states an enormous upside potential in excess of 102 per cent for the shares. The positive assessment is underpinned by Phoenix Group's strategic expansion and its forward-looking ambitions in high-growth technology sectors. The report, titled: 'Re-Energized Sites and AI/HPC Feasibility Prime Upside; Reit. Buy,' underscores Phoenix Group's strong position for meaningful growth in both the near and long term. The analysis highlights Phoenix's diversified strategy, which balances efficient digital asset mining with strategic investment in next-generation sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC). It also notes the company's ability to attract ongoing capital support amid broader industry trends that favour advanced connectivity and compute infrastructure. With new sites expected to come online, Phoenix is well-positioned to meet growing demand for AI workloads and unlock additional revenue streams. Central to this momentum is Phoenix's established partnership with IHC (IHC: ADX), the Abu Dhabi-based diversified investment firm. As a valued IHC portfolio company, Phoenix leverages shared expertise and resources to scale operations and execute on innovative projects, bolstering its resilience in a dynamic market. "We are delighted that H.C. Wainwright sees the significant value and enormous potential in our strategy," said Munaf Ali, CEO and co-founder of Phoenix Group. South Africa's natural diamonds must gain global appeal amid US tariffs crisis

Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has called for the marketing of South African natural diamonds across the world, as the sector faces a decline in demand and price. The local sector now faces an added challenge of a US tariff of some 30%. South African natural diamonds have not been excluded from the US tariff list, while minerals including gold, platinum group metals and coal enjoy exemption. At a stakeholder consultation with the diamond sector, Mantashe said he was 'convinced' that the sector needs an injection of aggressive marketing as a solution. 'Our biggest trading partner is China. The US is the second biggest trading partner for South Africa. With the 30% tariff… you are not going to escape it. I'm very convinced that the marketing of natural diamonds is a necessary intervention because you cannot replace natural diamonds with lab-grown diamonds. 'We must market natural diamonds, but we must produce more natural diamonds, and the beneficiation thereof is quite critical. We must cut and polish market value-added diamonds. Value addition must happen close to the point of production.' The minister encouraged diamond producers to 'express their views' during the session and encouraged a 'flow of ideas' on how the government can intervene. 'We are having this platform today to hear your views. You agree that you want to be part of that agreement of (the) marketing of natural diamonds. Tell us and we will do it. However, we thought we should not do it without talking to (the sector). I am convinced that it's the right intervention. We must market…more aggressively. 'Natural diamonds are competing with lab-grown (ones)… particularly in the West. (Some) 25% of (the) diamond trade in the US is lab-grown. It's very small in China… and India. 'In the West, where there is a big market for natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are competing with us aggressively. What do we do? That's the question we are putting to you. Help us think through this issue and give us ideas,' Mantashe said. All rights reserved. © 2022. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (
