Lizzo conquered anxiety with meditation and isolation
Lizzo conquered her anxiety using meditation.
The 36-year-old pop star has spent years battling the mental health issue but she's now revealed she found a technique that helped after she started using meditation to calm herself down - and she also decided to isolate herself from distractions in a bid to banish negative thinking.
In a video posted as a TikTok Live, she explained: "I've been working to get my anxiety under control for years. And then I decided that I want to release and I'm ready to stop waiting to be myself like fully and be happy.
"And I meditated. I calmed myself down. And I isolated a little bit, but not like made myself lonely, not the way I used to when I was depressed. I isolated myself in a mindful way where I had no distractions.
"I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking. I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that. And I just focused on me."
In the video, Lizzo also spoke about her recent weight loss admitting she stopped drinking "two to three" large Starbucks drinks a day and swapped sugary treats for savoury snacks.
She said: "I do something sweet. It's gotta be with some sort of like carb. I'll have like almond butter and toast. So, everybody's body is different.
"Find out what works for you ... [I believe the only thing that] works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out.
"That's just how the human body works."
It comes after Lizzo recently admitted she has been in a "state of depression" after a string of lawsuits were launched against her because she became convinced she was "hated" by the world.
Speaking on the 'On Purpose' podcast, she told host Jay Shetty: "I knew I was going to have to do my biggest [album].
"I had this feeling that everybody hates me for something that isn't true. But at the end of the day, because of the position I'm in, everybody hates me.
"I've been in a state of depression because I didn't know how to fix it. I was dark and I was scared of people. I was like, you can't trust anyone, you can't love anyone, I don't want to talk to nobody."
Lizzo was hit with multiple suits in 2023 when several of her former background dancers filed suit alleging that the singer subjected them to sexual harassment. The singer/rapper denied any wrongdoing.
The 'About Damn Time' hitmaker - whose new record 'Love in Real Life' will be released later this year - added that she has had to go to some "dark" places on the upcoming album. She said: "I have some songs that are very dark."

Joe Jonas describes post-divorce relationship with ex-wife Sophie Turner as ‘beautiful co-parenting' experience
Joe Jonas has described his post-divorce relationship with ex-wife Sophie Turner as a 'beautiful co-parenting' experience. Offering rare insight into how the pair are raising their children together the 35-year-old singer made the remarks during a live appearance on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast tour, where he spoke about their two daughters, Willa, aged four, and Delphine, two. He said in a TikTok clip from the event: 'Having an incredible mum, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true. 'As young girls, looking up to great women is what I want for them. I think what values I want for them are to be open-minded and have a big heart.' Joe added he hopes Willa and Delphine 'be able to walk into any room and feel confidence and know that they can do literally anything they want.' Joe and Sophie, 29, began dating in 2016 and became engaged the following year. They married in 2019 before welcoming Willa in 2020 and Delphine in 2022. Their separation was announced in 2023 after four years of marriage. The couple's break-up then became publicly contentious when Sophie filed a lawsuit claiming that Joe had 'wrongfully removed' their children from England. A spokesperson for Joe described the legal filing at the time as a 'serious abuse' of the legal system. Despite the conflict, the couple reached a temporary agreement through mediation in October 2023, vowing to resolve their separation privately. But in March 2024, Sophie reactivated divorce proceedings and their split was finalised in September 2024. Joe has since been romantically linked to 33-year-old model Stormi Bree and 28-year-old actor Laila Abdallah. Speaking on a TalkShopLive stream earlier this year, he described dating again as 'scary and intimidating'. Sophie, meanwhile, was reportedly in a relationship with 29-year-old aristocrat Peregrine Pearson. The pair were last seen together earlier this year, but speculation about a split emerged in April. Sophie recently appeared to show public support for Joe's new solo project, 'Music for People Who Believe in Love', by posting a message of encouragement on Instagram. 'Go go @joejonas,' she wrote in a caption, alongside a link to the album.

Lizzo admits some days she 'just can't take it' after 'bawling in bed'
Lizzo was "bawling in bed" this week and admitted some days she "just can't take it". The 37-year-old singer has reflected on her mental health in a candid message to her fans where she urged them to keep going despite their struggles. She wrote on Instagram on Wednesday (21.05.25): "My crashouts about the world are valid. And so are yours. "Today I was bawling in bed… I cancelled my workout… I was driving around sobbing because some days I just can't take it. This s*** ain't easy for anybody. "I have grace for everyone who feels like they're going insane… for everyone who feels like nothing is good enough… for everyone who feels like they failed… I FEEL YOU... 'But I'm still here, and so are you.' The 'Truth Hurts' hitmaker recently celebrated her birthday on April 27, and used the special day as an opportunity to open up about her mental health. She wrote at the time: "I'm a tough cookie. I tried my whole life not to cry and be seen as anything less than strong. "I had a lot of anxiety leading up to my birthday and I could feel it clogging my emotions…" Despite "freaking out" during the evening, she found herself looking around at her loved ones and "cried like a baby" with tears of joy. "Last night at dinner, while freaking out about not spending time with everyone equally and worrying if people were having a good time, I looked and saw my mommy brother sister sitting in front of me, eating and smiling.. "I looked to my right and my best friend Lexo was making a joke about eating avocados and I lost it. I cried like a baby! I couldn't control the tears pouring through the wall I'd been hiding behind. "I was SO HAPPY because regardless of yesterday and regardless of what was gonna happen next, in that very moment I had everything I needed. In that moment everything was ok."

Trivium slam Bullet For My Valentine as Matt Tuck pulls plug on co-headline tour early
Trivium's bassist Paolo Gregoletto has accused Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck of having "no respect for us or our crew" after he pulled out of their joint tour early. The two bands have played across Europe and North America in celebration of the 20th anniversaries of their 2005 albums 'The Poison' and 'Ascendancy'. They were due to head to Australia and South America after they wrap the North American leg, but according to Trivium, Matt no longer wants to do it. During a TikTok Live, Paolo said: 'Matt Tuck didn't want to do it, after we had planned it, after stuff was already in the works – don't know why. I think it would have been amazing. I think The Poison is a great album. I think the two records pair very well together. And I think it would have been nice to give everyone around the world a chance to see the two together.' In another TikTok, he captioned the clip: 'When you make your first TikTok live and p*** off the other band you are on tour with… #JusticeForSouthAmerica'. One person commented suggested they should have dealt with the situation in private, Gregoletto replied: 'He's the sole decision maker of the band and he has no respect for us or our crew.' Trivium frontman Matt Heafy told Metal Hammer of the joint tour: "For [BFMV frontman Matt Tuck] and I, these records in 2005 changed our lives. But we were only really able to see the impact 10, 15, 20 years later. "A lot of the coolest metal bands that I love these days, I'll talk to them and they'll, say, 'Trivium was my first live band I ever saw'. OR they'll say 'Ascendancy' or 'The Poison' was their first record. That's so cool." Heafy added: "It almost feels like a once in a lifetime experience. A five-year or 10-year anniversary, that's cool. "But we knew we wanted to really hold on to this. 'We've never done anything like it, so let's wait for 20 years.' It's something special for sure."
