A Wolverhampton Wanderers fan is set to abseil down a stand at the club's stadium in memory of her late Cullis's dad Barry, who was known by everyone as Stan, died in December 2023, seven years after being diagnosed with Cullis said she wanted to do the Molineux Abseil, which involves descending 25m (82ft) down the Billy Wright Stand, to pay tribute to him and her sister Lorna, who also died from cancer."As a family, I thought it would be a good way to pay tribute and help us move forward, while also raising money for Wolves Foundation," she said. The family happen to share their surname with the team's former manager Stan Cullis, a name which was "synonymous with the club's illustrious history", a Wolves spokesperson Cullis said she thought her father was actually a "distant relative of the man himself" and may have been a second cousin."I don't think the name ever leaves us," she explained. "Every person we meet in Wolverhampton asks us if we knew Stan, and it's something to treasure really."In his final weeks in hospital, Barry was also sent some gifts from the club and was set to receive a call from a former player, but died before it could be Cullis said she wanted to "repay the favour and that compassion", with money raised from the abseil on 6 September going to the club's official charity."I am definitely looking forward to the challenge, it's a really nice thing to do and I am sure I'll have plenty of support," she said. Jamie Carragher reveals which team he believes will challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title this season
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed which team he believes is most likely to challenge his former club for the Premier League title this season. Arne Slot 's team kicked off their defence of the title with a 4-2 victory at home to Bournemouth on Friday night. Carragher feels that although Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will be determined to bounce back having finished third last season, it is questionable whether City's squad is good enough to win the league. Instead, Carragher believes that Arsenal, who have finished second in each of the last three seasons, will again be City's closest challengers. Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: 'I'd probably say Arsenal as a whole, as a club, as a team, but I've just got Pep Guardiola in the back of my mind. He just doesn't not win. When he doesn't win a league title, I don't think he's gone two years without winning a league title. He's such a special manager, you think is he going to conjure something up? 'I'm also thinking is this City squad good enough to go and win the league right now? How Chelsea could line up in Crystal Palace clash after summer transfer splurge and two-week long pre-season
CHELSEA may have had just two weeks to prepare for the new season, but they are looking sharp already. The Blues have recorded comfortable wins over both Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan during their truncated pre-season. Plenty have impressed, too. New Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian has Stamford Bridge wrapped around his little finger already. A goal on his first start and winning a penalty from the bench against Milan has everyone excited - and rightly so. However, Enzo Maresca will have to be delicate when it comes to getting him used to life in the Premier League. There will be huge clamour for Estevao to be in from the off against Crystal Palace on Sunday - but Maresca will likely resist the noise and go with Pedro Neto. One new signing likely to get a go from the off is Jamie Gittens, signed from Borussia Dortmund. The English winger is untested in the Premier League but has looked direct and dangerous in his early outings for Chelsea. Robert Sanchez is the first-choice goalkeeper, while without Levi Colwill the defence is rather straightforward. Up top, both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have been impressive during pre-season and at the Club World Cup. However, with Pedro having five in five since his arrival - the former Brighton man will likely start against his old rivals.
