'Ted Lasso' Season 4 Casting Update—Phil Dunster

'Ted Lasso' Season 4 Casting Update—Phil Dunster

Cosmopolitan5 days ago
By now you've probably heard the news that Apple TV+'s breakout comedy Ted Lasso is coming back for a season 4. You might even be aware that season 4 has already started filming, with many lead cast members returning. But it's not all good news. Based on the cast news, it looks like Phil Dunster isn't returning for Ted Lasso season 4. And while I am in mourning, I can't help but wonder what this could mean for Roy and Keeley.
Phil, who starred in the series as the bad boy of AFC Richmond Jamie Tartt, reportedly doesn't have a Ted Lasso season 4 deal—at least, not yet. It's still completely possible that Phil—and fellow OG cast member Nick Mohammed—will reach some kind of deal to reprise his role in some capacity, but given that they've already started production, it just probably wouldn't be as a series regular.
The actor's absence from season 4 would be sad, yes, but it's not all bad. In fact, this might be the best thing that has happened to Roy and Keeley shippers in years. Unlike Phil, stars Juno Temple and Brett Goldstein have both been confirmed for the season, which means their respective characters, Keeley and Roy, could get another shot at love.
Keeley, Roy, and Jamie ended Ted Lasso season 3 still stuck in an unresolved love triangle (or a budding throuple, depending on which fans you ask). And as a Roy-Keeley shipper, I would be lying if I said that Jamie's absence in season 4 wasn't giving me some hope that we'll get to see the Roy F**king Kent and Keeley Jones be the power couple they were always meant to be.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2023—long before season 4 was ever confirmed—Brett, who is also a writer on the show, confessed that he could see Roy and Keeley getting back together in an imaginary future. 'I like the fact that some things aren't resolved so that I can dream what I wanna dream,' he said at the time. 'Now, in my dream, there's a lot of Roy and Keeley, and there's a lot of Roy, Keeley, and Jamie.'
He continued, 'In my dream version, if it's a throuple, it's mostly Roy and Keeley, but Jamie joins in occasionally.' Sounds like a perfect guest spot, if you ask me.

'We're not in Richmond anymore': What we know about 'Ted Lasso' Season 4

Believe it — Season 4 of Ted Lasso has officially begun production, Apple TV+ announced this week. That's right, Coach Lasso, the show's beloved mustachioed and mild-mannered namesake, who helped guide audiences through a global pandemic with optimism and humanity, is back on the football pitch. Well, this calls for biscuits. Filming has officially kicked off in star Jason Sudeikis's (Ted Lasso) hometown of Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas called it 'another major victory for the city's rapidly expanding film industry,' in a post on X, in which he appears to be sporting a blue Ted Lasso hat. Additional filming is also set to take place across the pond in London. Apple TV posted a video on Instagram of Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) and Sudeikis are sitting in what appears to be a booth at a traditional American restaurant as some of the key members of AFC Richmond get ready to film a scene. The caption reads: 'We're not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.' The streaming service confirmed back in March that there would be a fourth season. The show has won 13 Emmy Awards and has received a total of 61 Emmy nominations. Barbecue sauce. What can fans expect in Season 4? At the end of Season 3, Ted ends up returning to the U.S. after coaching the fictional AFC Richmond soccer team in London in order to be closer to his son, Henry. The streaming service indicates on its website what fans can expect in the highly anticipated new season: 'Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.' Do we know when Season 4 will be released or if there's an official trailer? So far, Apple TV+ says a release date for Season 4 is coming soon. No official trailer has been released yet, aside from this week's teaser. Which characters will return? Even though they're not pictured in the promo image, the wise Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) will be back. Grant Feely will replace Gus Turner as Ted's son, Henry. Other newcomers to join the cast in roles that have yet to be revealed include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern. Who is not returning? Fan favorites like Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) and Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) along with Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), James Lance (Trent Crimm), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo) and Billy Harris (Colin Hughes) weren't named as regular returning characters in Season 4. A set of mini tear stain combs for when the fur around your dog's eyes is getting crusty and tangled and you're looking for a gentle and easy way to remove the built-up goop without having to actually... touch it yourself. A flopping fish toy that starts wiggling around when touched, which is sure to hold the attention of your cat or dog! A lovely-smelling and powerful odor-eliminating spray if you've spent forever scrubbing away at pet messes, but *still* can't seem to get rid of the odor. Simply spray this stuff for a fast and low-effort solution! And when it's done, it'll leave behind the scent of fresh-squeezed oranges instead of irritating chemicals. A reusable pet hair remover for anyone who can never seem to get all of their pet's fur off of their clothes and furniture. Just roll it over your fuzz-covered item of choice, and watch it lift the fur RIGHT OFF. Then simply dump out and reuse — no more annoying sticky papers like other lint rollers! A Honeydew soothing oatmeal shampoo that uses lavender, aloe vera, oats, and jojoba to give your dog's fur a deep clean that'll leave them smelling nice, while moisturizing their skin to avoid dryness and itchiness. A Lamb Chop plush toy your pooch will love as much as '90s kids loved the OG sock puppet version! It's super soft and fuzzy, making it a great snuggle buddy for your pup, but it also squeaks if they'd rather toss it around during playtime! And a popular squeaky Gumby chew toy if you wanna keep the '90s kids theme going (even though older folks will remember Gumby from their childhoods too)! It has a huge number of five star reviews from pet owners whose doggos love how flexible and plush this cute little toy is. A mounted catnip ball so your feline friends can enjoy their favorite snack without making a mess! You can choose between a standalone ball or a board that contains a ~flight~ of balls, including silvervine, gall fruit, catnip, and cat sugar if you wanna offer your cat some variety. An all-natural dog paw wax here to help keep your pup's cute little feet from getting dry and cracked, while protecting them from hot pavement, rough terrain, lawn fertilizer, and cold snow. It's super moisturizing and soothing, without being sticky, and will make walks, trips to the park, and other adventures with your pooch much more comfortable for them! A double-layered litter mat — the top layer has holes that allow the litter to fall through to the bottom layer, making it a breeze to dump out without a mess! It'll also help keep your cat from scattering litter all over your home. A game-changing microchip pet feeder if you've got different pets with different diets who just looooove to steal each other's food, making it difficult to control their portions and prevent overeating. This feeder reads your pet's microchip (or RFID collar tag) and will unlock only for them! A pooper scooper because it's faster and easier than bending over to grab every single one of your precious pup's poops. A Cat Dancer toy no one expects their cats to love as much as they inexplicably do. Honestly, I could spend all day LOLing at the review photos. And in case you're wondering what this thing is made of that drives cats so wild... it's literally a springy steel wire and rolled up cardboard — that's it. But thousands and thousands of reviewers LOVE it *and* it's under $5, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. A portable and reusable gel lint roller ball with a brilliant design that makes it easy to toss in your bag or pocket when on the go. This little thing is super effective at removing hair, lint, crumbs, and dust from clothes, carpets, and furniture — which is particularly handy if you have pets. It's also a breeze to clean and reuse, so you don't have to keep spending money on wasteful lint rollers. An immunity-boosting allergy supplement for doggos that get extra itchy. Reviewers say these can help boost the immune system and relieve allergies and skin sensitivities. Some Bissell Stomp & Go Cleaning Pads — simply stomp on them to release a powerful cleaning formula capable of banishing tough, set-in stains from pet messes, as well as wine, mud, coffee, blood, and more so you can keep your carpets looking new — without a lot of elbow grease. A pack of health-monitoring pee pads that react to your dog's urine pH and turn red or blue if they have a UTI or are dehydrated, so that you can tell at a glance how your furry friend is feeling. Each pad has six layers, designed to quickly absorb liquid, while neutralizing odor and preventing leaks. A Levoit air purifier with a HEPA filter loved by reviewers dealing with allergies, asthma, or just plain ol' bad smells! It uses a three-stage filtration system to help rid the air of allergens, pet hair, dander, smoke, mold, odor, large dust particles, and 99.97% of airborne contaminants as small as 0.3 microns so you can keep breathin' easy in your space even if it's full of pets. An indestructible rubber hot dog for all the aggressive chewers out there who tear through toys faster than you can buy them. It has a mild squeak that'll entertain your dog without annoying everyone, and the food-grade, natural rubber can withstand serious chomping without damaging your doggo's teeth. A purr pillow — it emits a calming purring sound when touched that'll help ease stress and separation anxiety in cats. Your kitty will love snuggling with this soft, high-quality plush toy. Plus, it's easy to remove the purring mechanism, so you can simply machine wash the outer shell! A snout soother that'll help keep your dog's nose from getting dry, cracked, and crusty. This powerful, lick-safe balm will moisturize your pup's snoot so every boop is nice and soft no matter how hot, dry, or cold the air is. Promising review: "Well, I have never before been so shocked at the effectiveness of a product. Our 5-year-old Frenchie, Carol, had a nose that was so crusty it was sprouting these long strands of more crust. There was literally crust on crust on crust. The nose had strings of crust. This nose was so crusty and repulsive it was almost beautiful. Her nose might have resembled the rarest, most exotic geode to be mined from the rarest mine in Guatemala. A friend recommended Snout Soother for Carol's repulsive nose. I was worried she would just lick it all off and it wouldn't work. We never imagined she could have a regular, soft, moist nose again. Honestly this product is some black magic stuff! Unbelievable results in three to five days. No one paid me to write this." —BrittanyPrice: $6.49 A hair-removing glove, 1) you'll love because it easily picks up a whole bunch of hair that otherwise would've been dispersed all around your home, and 2) your pet will love once they realize that every time you put it on, it means a luxurious petting session is about to begin. A Wet Ones dog paw scrubber to make cleaning your pet's cute lil' feet a lot more effective *and* a lot less of a hassle. It dispenses an antibacterial foam that makes it easy for the attached scrubber to remove debris before it ends up tracked all over your house. All you've gotta do is squeeze out the foam, gently massage your pet's feet with the scrubber, and you're done! No rinsing necessary! A pet urine stain–removing spray perfect for pet owners who are desperate to remove spots and smells, both old and new. Simply spray and let the enzymes gobble up all the gross stuff you don't feel like spending forever scrubbing away at. Then just blot and let air dry, and you can cross it off your to-do list! A handy device that keeps track of whether or not the dog has been fed, in case the days are starting to blur together and you can barely even remember if you fed yourself today. The *Pet Deluxe* version of Bissel's ever-popular Little Green upholstery cleaner — it'll make disastrous-seeming pet stains and odors look (and smell) like they never happened, thanks to its powerful spray and suction capabilities. Promising review: "I don't think there is anything I DON'T like about this carpet cleaner. It's small and easy to move around, the cord is plenty long, the reservoirs are quick to empty and fill, and it made my 4-year-old furniture look brand new —despite our 10-year-old who is convinced that's where he's supposed to eat. Also, I had to replace a 10' entry runner that matches my living room rug and was worried you'd see the difference. After cleaning the one in the living room, you truly can not tell! I highly worth the money!" —LJayPrice: $100 A bag of Dr. Elsey's unscented cat litter, because it actually neutralizes odors instead of covering them up with an annoying scent. Plus, it uses a hypoallergenic hard clumping clay that's way less dusty, easier to scoop, and less likely to end up strewn around your space! A pack of Arm & Hammer multipurpose wipes for when you don't have time to give your dog a full-on bath, but they could definitely use a quick refresh. These delightfully mango-scented wipes are gentle, yet powerful, and can be used on your pup's fur, paws, snout, and bottom when they're getting a little stinky! A ridiculously adorable stuffed duck — meet your precious pup's new emotional support animal that they'll absolutely adore cuddling and playing with. If your sweet pooch gets a little anxious when you're gone, this cute lil' ducky will be there to comfort them! Promising review: "Our dog gets separation anxiety (she came from a shelter so it's not too surprising). She has been known to be destructive when we leave her in the house for a while. We started using this duck as a comfort toy that she only gets when we aren't home. It's a special treat and it lets her know we are leaving but coming back. We have seen significantly less destructive behavior while using this toy so we are thrilled." —Kindle CustomerPrice: $5.39 A nail grinder that offers comfortable, pain-free nail trimming for those poor pups who get easily spooked. This has two speeds and super low noise and vibration to help minimize your dog's stress while sanding down their sharp claws quickly and easily. Or a pair of professional nail clippers for when you need extreme precision to trim the nails of your smaller pets. The ergonomic design makes them easy to use, and the sharp and sturdy blades will cut through even the toughest claws quickly, so you can play with your furry friends without ending up covered in scratches or destroying your furniture. A pair of play-'n'-squeak mice here to entice your cat with a realistic mouse sound and irresistible catnip scent, allowing them to act on their hunter instincts and get some extra mental and physical stimulation in a way that *doesn't* involve attacking your shoes, furniture, and toes! A beginner-level treat-dispensing ball that'll entertain your dog while rewarding them with treats or kibble, giving them the exercise and engagement they crave, while also helping slow down fast eaters. And a tooth-cleaning ball, because while your dog enjoys the mental and physical stimulation of playing with this bouncy puzzle ball, they'll also get a sneaky, hassle-free teeth cleaning. Add some kibble or treats into the ball if you really wanna entice your food-loving pup. Promising review: "This is probably the best dog toy I've bought for the money. The balls are sturdy and bouncy and even hold up to aggressive chewers. Also, the side slits are perfect for inserting small treats and it keeps the dogs entertained trying to pick them out. It's a play toy and treat toy in one and you cannot beat the price. I would definitely recommend this." —BethPrice: $8.29 A tube of poultry-flavored Petrodex dog toothpaste your pooch will actually like the flavor of — which is good news, because it'll also help prevent plaque buildup and keep their breath from smelling like food that's been rotting since the beginning of time. Promising review: "This toothpaste actually works! Our dog hates getting his teeth brushed, but he can actually somewhat stand it when I brush his teeth with this toothpaste. It's clear that he enjoys the taste of it because he always wants to lick the toothbrush. I started using this toothpaste for our dogs every day, twice per day, for about one week and then used a dental scraper tool, and nearly all the plaque from their teeth came off. I did NOT have to scrape very hard at all, and was very careful so I didn't harm their gums." —AprilPrice: $9.99 A custom illustration of your pet, because your furry friends deserve to be celebrated like the works of art they truly are! All you have to do is upload a photo and select your preferences for things like fonts, background colors, and frames, and then the Haus and Hues team will transform it into a stunning portrait! Promising reviews: "This is going to be my favorite Christmas gift to give out this year! The picture quality is absolutely amazing. The coloring, the sharpness, the background, the foreground… I seriously can't come up with enough compliments for this. They knocked it out of the park!" —Deb Keller"I ordered a picture with my friends 2 dogs as a gift and I'm OBSESSED with how it came out! It is so cute and I love the ability to select the different color backgrounds, frame, and font. The customer service was OUTSTANDING! I had some requests to remove collars and they were so responsive and accomodating. I just ordered another for a friend and will end up ordering for myself!!" —Jenna $14.99+ (available in framed or unframed versions) A Fur-Zoff pet hair remover that'll easily pull so much fur off your carpets, comforters, couches, and clothing, you'll wonder how this much hair even came from your pet. Promising review: "This worked wayyyyyyy better than I expected lol. I have a couch that is basically burlap, and my huskie's hair is embedded in the couch on the side she sleeps on. This little stone not only removed the hair, but it removed the balled up fabric too. It's great. I will warn you though, it's a little abrasive so I would not recommend for delicate fabrics." —Mama TPrice: $12.99 And a FURemover squeegee broom reviewers say attracts hair like a magnet. All that fur and fuzz hiding deep in your carpet is no match for this thing, and while pet hair is the focus, it'll do an impressive job cleaning up water, dirt, and dust, too. And finally, a pack of matatabi chew sticks — they're an all natural alternative to catnip for anyone who has spent way too much money on catnip toys that do little to impress your feline friend. Cats seem to really love this stuff, and it can also help maintain clean teeth! Meowy Janes is a small business based in New Egypt, New Jersey that specializes in catnip and catnip alternatives. Matatabi is a plant is native to the mountains Japan and China, and is more popular than catnip in East Asia!Promising review: "My three cuties love these! They chew on them, toss them around like toys, and I've even found them sleep with these by their sides. So I guess that means they're mommy-approved too!" —MelPrice: $10.99

Apple beta season is here

Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 91, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you're new here, welcome, how is summer more than a month over already, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.) This week, I'm pondering the leaked Pixel 10 lineup, marveling at BYD's leaping Yangwang U9 supercar, reading about why everyone's reading Reddit, already looking forward to Ted Lasso's fourth season, rewatching MKBHD's videos about the Escobar folding phone, melting with joy at the new Pokémon Concierge season 2 trailer, dreaming of buying the Lego Game Boy but not actually doing so because my toddler would destroy it, and listening to Lucius' recently released self-titled album. I also have for you some new betas from Apple, a retro-styled PC, some thoughts about cases, and how to play Dance Dance Revolution at home today. (As always, the best part of Installer is your ideas and tips. What do you want to know more about? What awesome tricks do you know that everyone else should? What app should everyone be using? Tell me everything: installer@ And if you know someone else who might enjoy Installer, forward it to them and tell them to subscribe here.) Thanks to everyone who replied to my quandary about whether or not I should keep using a phone case. There were a bunch of great perspectives and feelings, so I'm sharing a few of them here in the newsletter — a lot more people go caseless than I expected! As for my own decision? Well, I haven't reached one yet, and honestly, I may never pick one lane. Typically, my iPhone 16 Pro lives in this slim Torras case, but as I write this, it's sitting on top of the case, not in it. Will I put the case on before I walk out the door? We'll see! 'I, too, felt the urge to go caseless. I'm pretty careful with my electronics, so I still didn't love the idea of setting my phone down on tables and things alike. I got the magnetic back from Nomad, and it has felt like the perfect meet-in-the-middle accessory for me! Phone feels almost caseless, and I still get the back protection.' – Omesh 'I am totally the same with cases. I know I'll drop it once a year and totally ruin the thing and I hate that. What I do is take the case off when I'm just chilling at my desk or couch or chair. That way I get the joy of the smooth phone, but when I am in danger of dropping it on concrete or getting out of my truck, I have the protection it needs.' – Travis 'I ran my first gen Pixel Fold without a case (while living in a beachy resort town) for two years! If the Fold can survive it, so can a 16 Pro. The Fold is still alive and well as a secondary device/backup phone. Of course, it's definitely not pristine, so if you don't want your phone to bear its scars, you should probably keep a case on it.' – John 'I have the Peak Design GNAR case. Saw some complaints online about the protection being too minimal for the front of the phone, but it's been solid for me. Does well being outdoors (I run outside all the time). I'm rocking no screen protector.' – airwr3ck6669 'I never used cases until I got my current phone (Pixel 6A) because the Razer Kishi controller I used no longer fit snuggly around it, so I found a case that allowed it to fit again. I would say the case would eventually come off, but I only realized as I was reading this article that even though I no longer use that controller, I hadn't thought to take the case off.' – xPutNameHerex Today, I'm featuring Keith Broni, the editor-in-chief of Emojipedia. I thought of reaching out to him for this section after World Emoji Day on July 17th (the date shown on the calendar emoji), and he graciously replied. He initially got involved with the site in 2018 and took on increasing responsibilities 'over the years' before taking the editor-in-chief job in 2022. In addition to everything about his homescreen, I wanted to know what he's looking forward to in the world of emoji. 'I'm excited to see what the next unexpected emoji repurposing meme is going to be, especially as Gen Alpha becomes more and more online,' he tells me, like how Millennials repurposed the Eggplant and Peach and how Gen Z repurposed the Skull. Emoji fascinate me — full disclosure, I submitted proposals that helped bring the Saluting Face, Bubbles, Waffle, and Yawning Face emoji into the world — so I'm to share more of the emoji universe with Installer readers. Here's Keith's homescreen and his explanation of what's on it. The phone: Google Pixel 6. Like Molly last week, I'm an 'until the wheels fall off' type of person when it comes to my personal phone, though I use an iPhone 15 Pro for work. The wallpaper: A 2019 picture of me (I'm in all black, bar the white soles of my sneakers) wandering the grounds of the Zōjō-ji Temple in Tokyo, with the Tokyo Tower looming in the background. The apps: I also asked Keith to share a few things he's into right now. Here's what he said: Here's what the Installer community is into this week. I want to know what you're into right now as well! Email installer@ with your recommendations for anything and everything, and we'll feature some of our favorites here every week. For even more great recommendations, check out the replies to this post on The Verge, this post on Threads, and this post on Bluesky. 'I use Outplay on my Apple Watch to track the soccer matches I play. It shows a heat map of my movement during a match and has metrics specific to playing soccer like sprints. It works better for me than using the built-in Apple Workout app or Strava.' – Harry Tequila 'Been playing the macOS version of Cyberpunk 2077 on a base M4 Mac Mini. I am impressed with the game and graphic quality of this version. Just hoping this is the start for more Mac-native versions of A & S tier games.' – penguinchiller 'I just completed the (not so) Endless Tower in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and beat Clea... on an MSI Claw 8 with an Intel chip! Didn't expect that after panning the first Claw. It's the only handheld I've really enjoyed this game on so far!' – Sean 'I've become obsessed with the Twos app and using it constantly. Highly recommend!' – Rich 'After steadfastly avoiding it because of its difficulty, I recently purchased and have been dying over and over again in Returnal. The environment really does feel like a hostile alien planet, and with headphones it feels like I can hear every drop of rain. And yeah, it's really difficult.' – Aram 'Been playing Lushfoil Photography Sim and it is so relaxing and lovely.' – Allison 'I've been binging CityNerd on YouTube. The channel discusses cities, transportation, urban design, walkability, etc. Good stuff.' – low_light_mixes Last week, I included a tidbit from a reader who has been playing Dance Dance Revolution recently. As someone who played a lot of DDR when I was a kid ('Butterfly,' anyone?), I was curious to learn more about how he does it. Here's some of what the reader, Tom, told me — he also pointed me to a starter guide on Reddit: 'I'll start with acknowledging I am fully not an expert in the scene, but spent a lot of time in the local arcade and at home playing on a PS2 when I was growing up. 'I grabbed the Deluxe 1-inch thick foam pad from along with the extension cord and the preloaded Stepmania Flash drive. Stepmania is the open-source clone of DDR. People make their own stepcharts (the arrows that scroll up during a song) and make custom songs that you can download and load in, as well as songs from the actual DDR games. 'Someone who is really into playing may want to eventually invest in a metal pad, like what's in the arcades. They're super sturdy and will last for years of use, whereas soft mats could potentially tear over time. There are many manufacturers out there, and the price range is usually from $400 and up for the metal pads. People even buy old arcade cabinets for thousands of dollars and have them in their home.' Thanks, Tom! See you next week, everyone! Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed.
