Johor police receive 130 reports over wellness package scam totaling RM698,000
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor police have received 130 reports from individuals who claimed they were cheated by a health and wellness company, 38 Speed Relax and Wellness, with total losses amounting to RM698,155.67.
State police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the victims had purchased packages priced according to the number of treatments selected, with services supposedly available at any of the company's outlets nationwide, at any time.
'However, the victims only realised they had been duped when they could no longer contact the company to schedule appointments. They later discovered that all of the company's outlets had ceased operations without any prior notice,' he said in a statement today.
Kumar said investigations are ongoing under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term between one and 10 years, with whipping, and a possible fine, upon conviction.
Earlier, media reports stated that over 1,000 customers had alleged they were scammed after a health and beauty centre operating 28 outlets nationwide abruptly shut down.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chairman Heng Zhi Li was quoted as saying the company's sudden closure left many customers unable to redeem the services they had already paid for in full.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, said investigations at the scene revealed that the explosion was caused by firecrackers that had been deliberately thrown into one of the houses. He said the impact not only damaged the targeted home but also affected two neighbouring properties. "All three houses sustained damage to their ceilings and yards, while vehicles at two of the premises were also affected. "We believe the attack may have been related to a debt dispute. "Preliminary investigations point to two unidentified male suspects who were seen fleeing the scene in a car," he said in a statement. Police are now urging members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information about the suspects to come forward. Trader fined for obstructing health officer
KOTA KINABALU (June 12): A trader was fined RM3,000, in default four months' jail, by a Magistrate's Court here today for obstructing a Health Ministry officer from performing his duties. Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin imposed the fine on 38-year-old Tee Hong Lim after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Tee was found guilty of committing the offence at a house in Taman Seri Kepayan on June 1. In an unrelated case, a driver was discharged on a two-year good behaviour bond by another Magistrate's Court here for a charge of causing hurt. Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali issued the order under Section 173A of the Criminal Procedure Code in the case of Mahady Sham, who was accused of injuring the victim at the loading bay of a meal unit at a health institute at 11.46am on May 15, 2024. The court set the bond at RM1,200 with one local surety. Mahady was represented by counsel Mohamad Syazwan Shah Mohamad Ali.
