Rookie defender Nohl Williams on Chiefs DB coach Dave Merritt: 'He knows his stuff'
The Kansas City Chiefs will rely on rookie defensive back Nohl Williams to buoy their secondary next season as they endeavor to punch their ticket to a fourth consecutive Super Bowl.
Despite his inexperience, Williams is expected to help Kansas City force more turnovers next season after he led the FBS in interceptions with the California Golden Bears last year.
During comments to the media on Saturday, Williams told reporters about his budding relationship with Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt:
'He's (Defensive Backs Coach Dave Merritt) a good ball coach," Williams explained. "He's been around the game a long time, he knows his stuff, and I know I can learn a lot from him and keep growing and developing into the player I want to be.'
Fans should keep their eyes on Williams over the next few months to see if the former Golden Bear has what it takes to crack Kansas City's starting lineup as a rookie.

Eagles superfan and musician vows to boycott shows in a rival city
One of county music's top stars turns his tour decisions into a loyalty statement. It isn't one of the game's traditional rivalries. The involved teams honestly haven't played each other enough to develop any genuine hatred. Last February's Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs matchup was only the twelfth time these proud organizations met on the field to play a football game. There is something brewing, though, and it isn't always friendly. No one should be shocked. Many rivalries have been born from two teams crossing one another's paths frequently during the postseason. Pro football consists of 32 teams. There are only 17 games played by every team each regular season. Every team plays its divisional rivals twice. No team plays every franchise. Thus, league officials developed a rotating schedule, so each organization will eventually play every other team. Long story short, Philadelphia and Kansas City are only scheduled to meet once every four years unless these two teams meet in a Super Bowl or finish with identical rankings in the conference standings (or both). As fate would have it, they've met in football's biggest game to conclude two of the past three seasons. We have seen how that has turned out. They've both come out on top once, and now, there's a little tension. Hey, don't blame the players and coaches. Blame two passionate fan bases. Eagles fan Zach Bryan won't be playing in Kansas City anytime soon. The Eagles and Chiefs share an iconic coach. Kansas City's players and fans weren't very respectful after winning Super Bowl LVII. Who can forget about JuJu Smith-Schuster sending James Bradberry a Valentine's Day card referencing 'holding'? Then, there was the Chiefs' victory parade. Kansas City's offensive linemen showed up with T-shirts referencing Philadelphia registering zero sacks, which in turn led to Lane Johnson mentioning that in his speech to his Eagles teammates before the big game this past February. Why do you think this team took so much pleasure in bludgeoning Patrick Mahomes? Now, one of the Birds' biggest fans has joined in. Country music star Zach Bryan took to X recently and asked, "Where are all the three-peat people from last year?' A Chiefs fan responded with some profanity. Bryan didn't back down, offering a jab of his own. 'Please understand I will never play in Kansas City.' See? Eagles vs. Chiefs may not be a natural rivalry, but it's a rivalry nonetheless. Want to attend 2026 World Cup games for free? FIFA needs 65,000 volunteers
The pay is nonexistent, but the perk could be viewing games in the U.S., Mexico and Canada for free during FIFA World Cup 26 next summer. FIFA launched the application process for World Cup 26 volunteers Monday. How many are needed? A staggering 65,000 across the 16 cities that will host the expanded 48-team format over 39 days beginning June 11, the largest volunteer program FIFA has ever attempted. 'Volunteers are the heart, soul and smile of FIFA tournaments,' FIFA president Gianni Infantino said. 'They get to show off their local pride, gain a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament and make memories and friendships that can last a lifetime, while supporting a historic event. 'We hope interested individuals will join us as we welcome the world to North America in 2026.' In addition to stadiums, volunteers will provide support across at training sites, airports and hotels. FIFA estimates 6.5 million fans will attend World Cup 26, with 3.7 million attending games in the U.S., 1.5 million in Mexico and 1.3 million in Canada. The 2022 final with Lionel Messi leading Argentina past Kylian Mbappé and France, drew a record 1.42 billion viewers, including 26 million in the U.S. 'The Super Bowl, which is fantastic, has what, 120-130 million viewers? The World Cup has six billion,' Infantino told Fox Sports in April. 'A World Cup is 104 Super Bowls in one month.' Volunteers in the past ranged from students to seniors. No experience is required but applicants must be at least 18 years old. Interested individuals can apply at Those whose applications are accepted will be invited to attend the Volunteer Team Tryouts, which are expected to begin in October. Training will take place in March 2026. 'Volunteers are the heartbeat of FIFA events and champions of their host city — sharing their pride and passion with fans from all corners of the globe, welcoming visitors to experience the unique culture of their host city and supporting the extraordinary event that is a FIFA World Cup,' FIFA said in a statement. Los Angeles is one of 11 U.S. host cities, with eight games scheduled at SoFi Stadium, including the U.S. team's opener June 12. After playing its second match in Seattle on June 19, the U.S. will conclude group play at SoFi on June 25. Included in the games to be played in Inglewood are two round-of-32 games and a quarterfinal. Only one venue — AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — was awarded more games with nine. 'We're happy with with how it turned out,' U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter said. 'We look forward to being in L.A. [and] probably one of the best stadiums in the world and to get to play there twice in the group stage.' Other U.S. hosts cities include Seattle, Houston, Kansas City, Atlanta, Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Miami and the San Francisco Bay area. Games in Mexico and Canada will be held in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Toronto and Vancouver. 'FIFA changed my life,' longtime volunteer Craig Collins said on a video. 'Why do I want to volunteer again? I can give back to an organization that has provided for me without knowing it. Collins became the one millionth person to join the FIFA volunteer community in April 2025.
