
Yellow line to finally cross finish line
The PM will also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase 3, also called Orange Line. The line with 31 stations will span 44.65 km and will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 15,611 crore.
Yellow Line, which faced several delays, particularly due to non-availability of trains, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, particularly at the infamous Central Silk Board junction, and transform connectivity to Electronics City, one of India's largest technology and industrial hubs. The line passes through a key tech corridor housing major companies, while improving access to residential areas, hospitals, educational institutions, and industrial clusters of South Bengaluru.
It also offers interchanges with the Green Line at RV Road, the upcoming Pink Line at Jayadeva, and the Blue Line at Central Silk Board.
The line will operate with three available trains at a frequency of 25 minutes, manufactured and supplied by the Titagarh Rail System. Equipped with a modern Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, the Yellow Line is designed for fully-automated driverless operations (GoA-4). However, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) will begin services in semi-automated mode (GoA-2) with loco pilots in the beginning. The delay is due to pending integration of key systems, regulatory approvals, and staff training. Full automation will commence once GoA-4 software and safety validations are completed.

‘Tiranga Yatra' fills Chandni Chowk with patriotic fervour
The historic lanes of Chandni Chowk were awash with patriotic colours on Monday, ahead of Independence Day. Slogans such as 'Har Gali – Har Mohalla, Har Dil Mein Tiranga Laharaye' and 'Tiranga Aan Bharat Ki – Tiranga Shaan Bharat Ki' echoed throughout, underscoring the unity and pride of the gathering. Khandelwal described the yatra as 'a reflection of deep respect and unwavering commitment to our national flag.' He linked the event to the 'Bharatiya Samaan – Hamara Swabhiman' campaign under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a decisive step towards promoting indigenous products and self-reliance. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi is recognised globally not only for his bold decisions but also for implementing them effectively. Today, the world acknowledges India's growing power, leadership, and capabilities,' Khandelwal said. He added that traders nationwide are joining the campaign, playing a key role in strengthening the economy and reviving India's manufacturing prowess. The initiative, he stressed, represents not just economic progress but also 'the resurgence of India's glory, pride, and self-reliance.'

Kolkata: Suburban commuters on board the maiden AC EMU Ranaghat-Sealdah train were ecstatic to experience the much-awaited service on the first day of the week. The feelings were mixed when it came to coughing up Rs 120 for the ride from Ranaghat to Sealdah. While some seemed sensitive about paying Rs 100 more for a journey that otherwise costs Rs 20 in non-AC rakes, others said the cool comfort and the superior travel justified the fare. A monthly ticket costs Rs 2,430. The one-way fare ranges from Rs 35 to Rs 120 depending on the distance travelled. The train was flagged off with much fanfare from Sealdah on Sunday. Commercial services started at 8.29 am on Monday. The inaugural commercial service was fairly crowded, with several passengers standing. But there was enough legroom, unlike the non-AC local trains. Ranaghat resident Dilip Ghosh, who works in Khadi Bhavan on CR Avenue, was smiling as he looked around the ICF-made rake, from the AC vent over the seat, noting the time as the automatic doors closed and the train chugged out of Ranaghat station. "This is like travelling on a metro train. We are covering 90 km in AC comfort and saving time as well.
