Ajit Prabhu, CEO and Co-Founder of Quest Global Announces $10M Gift to RPI to Tackle the World's Toughest Engineering Challenges
SCHENECTADY, N.Y., May 1, 2025 /CNW/ -- Quest Global is honored to announce a $10 million endowment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), aimed at advancing engineering innovation and entrepreneurship. This gift establishes the Ajit Prabhu Catalyst Endowment and the Ajit Prabhu Catalyst Fund donated by the Prabhu family, supporting the Office of Strategic Alliances and Translation (OSAT) to equip RPI students and faculty to solve some of the hardest engineering problems for today and tomorrow.
The Catalyst Fund will support accelerating groundbreaking ideas into proof-of-concept prototypes or market-ready ventures. The Fund will help bridge the gap between lab research and real-world application, allowing RPI's brightest minds to focus not only on solving today's challenges but also on anticipating tomorrow's opportunities. This endowment will help translate research into application to benefit society.

Family, friends gather for balloon release to honor teens killed in Limerick Township crash
It was an emotional day for family and friends of the three teens who were killed in a crash Wednesday following a police chase in Limerick Township. Loved ones of Gabriel Cooper, 17, Nasir Youk, 17 and Siniyah Newsuan, 17, came together for a balloon release to honor their lives two days after their deaths. "We have to hold onto those beautiful memories," said Meelin Youk, Nasir's aunt. Over 100 people were in attendance for the balloon release in Spring City, where the kids grew up. Nasir Youk and Newsuan were rising juniors at Owen J. Roberts High School. Cooper was also a former student of the district. Their teachers and classmates were also present during the balloon release. In attendance was also Nasir Youk's mother, who is heartbroken over the loss. "This is just unbelievable," Angela Andrews, Nasir Youk's mother, said. "He was a good kid. He was a good kid. He was just living a full life as a kid would. This is unfortunate. I'm upset. Surveillance video captured the moment before the crash shows a car speeding down Ridge Pike with police not far behind. According to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, the teens were connected to a potential theft at a nearby Target. Nasir Youk's grandmother, Meejain Youk, believes her grandson should still be alive. "Why didn't you stop them at the door?" she said. "Why did you wait until they got in the car, and then the police had the license plate number. They did not have to pursue," she said. "The reason they ran is because they were afraid." Andrews said the family has yet to speak with police or the DA's office about what happened, but she hopes they can get answers soon. "The detectives or whoever was supposed to call me back never called me back," she said. CBS News Philadelphia reached out to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office regarding the family's concerns about the police chase, but a spokesperson said the police couldn't comment because it's still an active investigation.

Novak Djokovic hints at retirement after French Open defeat to Jannik Sinner
Novak Djokovic may have played his final match at the French Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was hoping to extend his record at Roland Garros this weekend with a trip to the men's singles final, but he lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets Friday. Djokovic, 38, appeared emotional as he collected his bags. He kissed his hand and touched the clay surface at Court Philippe-Chatrier. He then spoke about the match, signaling it may have been his last at the French Open. "I mean, this could have been the last match ever I played here, so I don't know. Astros beat Guardians in Colton Gordon's 1st MLB win
June 7 - Christian Walker's two-run double highlighted a three-run fifth inning and Colton Gordon allowed one run over five innings for his first major league win in the Houston Astros' 4-2 road victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Jeremy Pena extended his hitting streak to 12 games with his second consecutive three-hit contest and Brendan Rodgers clubbed his first homer of 2025 for the Astros, who have won nine of 12. In his fifth career start, Gordon (1-1) overcame seven hits allowed to yield just a fifth-inning run and struck out five without a walk in the opener of a three-game set. David Fry clubbed his first homer of the season for one of his two hits and Jose Ramirez extended his on-base streak to 32 games for the Guardians, who have dropped seven of 11. Logan Allen (3-4) threw four scoreless innings before he yielded all of Houston's runs in his final two frames, plus seven hits and two walks. In the first, Cleveland's Angel Martinez and Ramirez each were thrown out by Houston left fielder Mauricio Dubon trying to stretch a single into a double, which was a harbinger of the night for the Guardians. In the fifth, with two outs and two on, Houston's Jose Altuve grounded to deep third, where Ramirez made an off-the-mark throw to first that allowed a streaking Pena to score from second. Then Walker sent a flare into right field that Cleveland's Nolan Jones couldn't reach and dropped for a double that scored two to make it 3-0. The Guardians got on the board in the bottom of the fifth via three singles from Daniel Schneemann, Nolan Jones and Will Wilson - the latter of the RBI variety.
