The Mets could lose both Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz in free agency. Both have player options for next season. Alonso will likely find a lucrative long-term deal in free agency after agreeing to a two-year deal last offseason, with the second year being a player option.
However, Díaz is in year three of a five-year contract. He has an opt-out after this season which would lock him in through 2027, plus a club option for 2028. Should he opt in, the Mets could be in line to keep the closer for three more seasons. However, The Athletic's Jim Bowden predicted Díaz would opt out of his deal and find more money.
