White Sox pummel Pirates 10-1 to open second half
Quero's solo home run with two outs off Pirates starter Bailey Falter (6-5) kickstarted a three-run first inning and Robert hit his 10th home run in the fourth to begin the rout.
The offensive onslaught backed up a quality start from Jonathan Cannon (4-7), who gave up one run on five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two over seven innings.
Chicago opened the second half with a win after losing back-to-back games before the All-Star break. Pittsburgh was held to five hits and suffered its ninth loss in its past 10 games. The Pirates had their seven-game winning streak at home snapped.
Robert, who has been the subject of trade speculation, reached base four times, scored three runs and made a tremendous diving catch in left field to steal a double from Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the third inning.
Andrew Benintendi and Colson Montgomery each also had two hits and two RBIs.
Pittsburgh tallied its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Oneil Cruz drove in Bryan Reynolds, who doubled to lead off the inning.
Cruz carried over his momentum from the All-Star break when he hit a 513-foot home run and finished as a semifinalist in the Home Run Derby. On Friday, Cruz led the Pirates with two hits and stole his 30th base.
Chicago broke the game open with two more runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. The latter frame was highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Michael A. Taylor, which helped the White Sox tie their second-highest run total this season.
Falter allowed four runs on six hits and one walk and struck out two over four innings.
Braxton Ashcraft struggled in relief as well, as he walked four batters, including Benintendi and Robert to open the sixth. He gave up a single to Lenyn Sosa to load the bases. Montgomery then drove in two runs off Ashcraft when he bounced a high-chopper off first baseman Spencer Horwitz and down the right field line to put the White Sox ahead 6-1.

The Rangers won their sixth straight game, earned their second consecutive series sweep and captured their fourth series in a row. Texas is 8-1 since the All-Star Break and pulled to within four games of Houston in the American League West standings while collecting 10 hits, three by Smith. Atlanta, mired in fourth place in the National League East, dropped its fifth straight game and seventh of nine contests after the break. The Braves managed just four hits on Sunday against three Texas pitchers and are season-worst 16 games under .500. Leiter was outstanding for the Rangers, allowing a run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He tied a season high with seven strikeouts and won his career-high third straight start. Brad Elder (4-7) was ineffective from the start for the Braves, allowing eight runs on six hits, four walks and a hit batter over 2 2/3 innings while pitching about 50 miles southeast of his hometown of Decatur, Texas. The Rangers set the pace early, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out, three-run double by Langford that drove in Smith, Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia, all of whom reached without a hit. Atlanta cut into its deficit in the second as Sean Murphy's bloop, ground-rule double scored Drake Baldwin, who had walked. But the Rangers swung back in the bottom of the frame, adding a pair of runs on Smith's two-run home run over the right field fence that scored Jonah Heim and made it 5-1. In the third, Texas loaded the bases off Elder with a single, a walk and a hit batsman before Josh Jung plated Garcia and Langford with a single. Cubs hold on to lead for crosstown series win over White Sox
July 27 - Pete Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ben Brown pitched five strong innings to lift the visiting Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. An early spurt staked the Cubs to a 2-1 lead before they held on to take two of three in the crosstown series. Daniel Palencia worked around a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the ninth inning to earn his 14th save. White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi reached reliever Ryan Brasier for a three-run home run in the eighth inning, his second homer of the game, to bring the White Sox within the final margin. Ian Happ scored the deciding run in the top half when White Sox third baseman Colson Montgomery was called for obstruction in a rundown between home and third. It was one of three White Sox errors in the game. The Cubs scored a pair of first-inning runs against opener Grant Taylor, who struck out Michael Busch to begin the game before encountering trouble. Crow-Armstrong punctuated the rally with a two-run double that followed a double and walk. Benintendi cut the deficit in half with a solo home run against Brown in the bottom of the inning. CJ Abrams helps Nationals cruise past Twins
July 27 - CJ Abrams went 2-for-3 with a homer, and the Washington Nationals pulled away for a 7-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. Alex Call drove in two runs for Washington, which completed back-to-back wins to secure a series victory. Daylen Lile tripled and drove in a run. Matt Wallner hit a solo home run for Minnesota, which dropped to 3-6 since returning from the All-Star break. Harrison Bader went 2-for-3 with a double. Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin (8-5) limited the Twins to two runs on five hits in seven innings. He walked none and struck out two, and he threw 63 of 86 pitches for strikes.
