Punter lands life-changing sum after placing £6 bet on four horses

A lucky punter turned a £6 bet into a cool £23,715.15 after landing the touch of a lifetime over the weekend.
William Hill are reeling after a £6 each-way four-fold on Saturday's action from Haydock emptied their pockets.
The bet got off to the perfect start when Danny Tudhope steered 6/1 shot Stressfree to win the opening race by a neck.
This was quickly followed by Kodi Lion scoring at 7/1 to make it two from two for the punter.
There was then a couple of hours' wait before the brilliantly-named Oolong Poobong obliged at odds of 6/1 in the 4.08 race.
The punter had taken 6/1 about Organ in the finale when placing the bet, but having opted in to William Hill's Best Odds Guaranteed concession, they received 9/1 instead, which saw their winnings boosted by £7,097.82 when the horse fully won the final leg of the bet.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: 'There's nothing like turning £12 into five figures after landing a multiple on a Saturday afternoon's racing, and this punter has done just that in style. All four picks went in without a hiccup at Haydock and they've walked away with a cracking payout of £23,715.15.
'And that's not all either, as thanks to having opted in to William Hill's Best Odds Guaranteed concession, the punter received a bigger price on their final pick than they'd taken when placing the bet, increasing their winnings by more than £7,000! It just goes to show what Best Odds Guaranteed can do and we take our hats off to this punter for landing this memorable bet.'

McCoy tells of sadness as racecourse he rode first winner at announces closure

Irish racing was dealt a seismic blow with the shock announcement on Friday morning that Thurles racecourse would close with immediate effect. Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Don Cossack and Sizing John both won at the track, as did dual Ryanair Chase victor Allaho. Thurles also provided Rachael Blackmore with her first ever winner, as it did AP McCoy. 'Thurles will always be a special place for me," said William Hill ambassador McCoy. "It's where I rode my first winner back in 1992 aboard Legal Steps, a second-string of Jim Bolger's, riding against the likes of Christy Roche and Mick Kinane. It's sad that it's closing, because I always used to think it was 'the only all-weather track in Ireland', because they'd race there no matter what the weather was like! 'It's very sad to see any racecourse closing, and it's just a sad day. You've had plenty of good horses winning there over the years, and the likes of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott were never afraid to send their best horses to the track. You obviously had Don Cossack, Allaho, and Sizing John win there over the years, and that's just a testament to the place. 'Rachael Blackmore rode her first winner there too, and it was one of my favourite tracks in Ireland due to having ridden my first winner there. It's a loss to Irish racing and it's never good to see a track close.' Willie Mullins recorded more than 250 winners at the venue and told of his shock at the immediate closure. He told the PA news agency: "It was a major shock this morning to hear the news. It will be a huge blow for Irish racing, more specifically Irish jump racing and winter jump racing. "Thurles is a track that always had beautiful ground in the winter when other tracks couldn't. "It's the last family-run track in Ireland, I believe. Pierce Molony ran it for years, his father ran it before him and Riona and family have run it since Pierce died and they've been fantastic for the Irish jump fraternity over the years."

150/1 Glorious Goodwood winner stings bookies as firms suffer 'big blow'

Qirat stole the Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday after none of the other runners in the race could get to the pacemaker. Supplemented for the Group 1 last week at a cost of £70,000, the Ralph Beckett-trained 150/1 outsider was a pacemaker for 1/3 favourite Field Of Gold. However, the race did not go to script, with Qirat keeping up the gallop to emerge triumphant under Richard Kingscote, despite the best efforts of Rosallion, who was a neck adrift at the line. Despite Qirat's huge price, a number of punters collected on him, with William Hill reporting that 10% of all bets they took on the race being on the gelding. Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: 'Like most, we were shocked to see Qirat steal the Sussex Stakes from the front, and it's cost us dearly. 'We're often happy to lay the rank outsiders in these big Group 1 contests, and often we're not punished, but this has been a big blow with around 10% of all bets placed being for the 150/1 winner. It will go down as one of the most expensive Sussex Stakes results in recent memory.' Meanwhile, one Ladbrokes punter in England remarkably turned £50 into £7,550 after taking a chance on the plucky outsider. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Hardly anyone saw that result coming, but Qirat's Sussex Stakes upset left one punter in particular £7.5k better off in one of the biggest shocks we've seen at Glorious Goodwood."

‘The kind of bet everyone dreams of' – ‘Sensational' punter wins huge from small stake

THIS racing punter landed 'the kind of bet everyone dreams of' - winning huge from a small stake. The William Hill customer picked out a fantastic four-fold from the action at Leicester and Chepstow on Thursday evening. All in all it meant their £10 each-way acca stung the bookies to the tune of more than £15,000 in a little under two hours. And what's best of all is that the firm's best odds guaranteed promise meant they netted an additional £3,500. Honrado got the bet off and running with his head-length victory at 11-2 in a Class 6 1m4 handicap at Leicester. Then 33 minutes later it was the turn of 8-1 Due Date to win a 6f sprint at the same track with ease. Sticking to the same track, Cape Flora won the next for trainers John & Thady Gosden at 4-1 to leave the punt hanging on the 4.50 at Chepstow. Spirit Of The Bay hadn't won since May 2023 but he was a 3-1 chance for the 1m2f Class 6 handicap. And, under Arc de Triomphe-winning jockey Luke Morris, he kept on well to scoop the pot. The £10 each-way four-fold paid £15,413 in all. Most read in Horse Racing Spokesperson for "It's a fantastic return from a relatively small stakes each-way bet and they've walked away with over £15,000. "Not only have they managed to land a four-fold acca, but with Best Odds Guaranteed their winnings were boosted by over £3,500. "We have got to give credit to this winning punter – they clearly know how to pick a winner or two."
