Emmerdale star Jack Downham's Hollywood role before playing Noah Dingle
Jack Downham is best known to TV viewers as Emmerdale's Noah Dingle - but he has also appeared in a major Hollywood film, landing a role alongside some major A-list actors
Emmerdale fans have watched Jack Downham grow up on their screens, with the talented youngest joining the soap back in 2009 as Noah Dingle, Charity Dingle and Chris Tate's son.
Now, more than 15 years later, Jack has taken centre stage in some major storylines. Most recently, his character was spiked by his half-brother Joe Tate as part of a larger plot to steal a kidney from Noah.
But Emmerdale is not Jack's only big credit. He previously starred as Peter Morley on Heartbeat, and also played Young Robin in the 2010 blockbuster version of Robin Hood, alongside Hollywood heavyweights Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
Jack, who attended the Scala School for Performing Arts in Horsforth at the time, took it all in his stride, according to his mum Clare.
Ahead of filming, she told the Telegraph and Argus: "We are all so excited about it but Jack is taking it in his stride. He had two screen tests at Scala then he went for an audition during half-term. He had a chat with Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott and got the part!
"He's completely into Robin Hood, he watches it every week," she added. "Now he's going to be Robin Hood himself! It seems a bit surreal."
And despite meeting two of Hollywood's most powerful figures, Jack wasn't remotely star-struck. "He doesn't get fazed by things like that so he was pretty relaxed," Clare shared. "It probably helped that he hasn't seen their films yet because they're generally not suitable for children of his age."
Jack isn't the only actor in the family. His sister Sophie has also racked up a number of impressive TV credits, including Unforgiven, Doctor Who, and Appropriate Adult, alongside Emily Mortimer and Dominic West.
Jack was cast permanently on Emmerdale in 2009 after a series of stints appearing as an extra. He is the third actor to have played the character of Noah Dingle, following in the footsteps of Alfie Mortimer and Sam Duffy.
At the start of the year, the 23-year-old star admitted he had his eyes on another TV show - but said he feared he would get a 'battering' if he ever signed up.
During an interview with Inside Soap about his life both on and off screen, the actor was asked if he'd like to appear in any reality TV.
Jack replied: "Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins would probably be the one. I think I'd take a battering and might be out on the second day. But I'd give it a go. I like to challenge myself."
Jack tends to keep his personal life out of the spotlight despite his soap stardom, and over the years has only shared a handful of posts on social media.

Jack Fincham and Chloe Brockett 'back together again after sixth split'
Seventh time's a charm for Jack and Chloe, who have reunited again after a tough couple of months for the pair, reigniting the spark by going on a series of sweet dates with each other Love Island star Jack Fincham and his on-off girlfriend Chloe Brockett are back together, after six break-ups. Still not ready to full call it a day, the couple are trying again to make their relationship work. Only in April it was reported that the constant bickering and heated rows had become too much for the pair, who ended their relationship for the sixth time. But seventh time's the charm for the tumultuous couple, who have come to the realisation that they have something "special". Jack, who found fame on Love Island in 2018, was paired up on the show with Dani Dyer. But the pair didn't last, splitting up just a few months after leaving the villa. Dani, 28, later found love with West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen, with the couple getting married last weekend. Jack moved on with TOWIE star Chloe, 24, after they got together in 2019, and they've finally put their differences aside, after being spotted at Bethnal Green's Columbia Road Flower Market. A source told the Sun: "Chloe and Jack have been on and off for months but have finally put their differences aside to give their relationship another chance. They really want to make it work so have been enjoying some lowkey dates as they gradually build the trust. "They have realised they have something special so want to put their time and energy into making it work." The Mirror has reached out to Jack and Chloe's reps for comment. In March, Chloe opened up about one of their rows, admitting she threw a virtual reality headset at her boyfriend in a rage. She spoke about it on Spread The Juice podcast, explaining she had bought him the headset as a Christmas gift. She told host Jemma Lucy: "I bought Jack a Meta Quest for Christmas and I threw the Meta Quest at him. I just threw it at him." She revealed her reason for the aggressive moment was simply because she was "angry". At the time, Chloe insisted the pair were still an item. She told her Instagram followers: "For anyone concerned, I am very much still in a relationship. The last few months been very hard for everyone involved." She seemed to be referring to his court case, in which he avoided prison time after winning an appeal against his six week prison sentence. He was initially charged and convicted of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. But after the appeal, he was given a further three-month suspended sentence. This was added to his 18-month suspended sentence for a drug-driving offence in March 2024. They then split, with Jack admitting in May they were living apart. He told the Sun: "Chloe and I haven't been in a great place. I'm living at my mum's and she has moved out of the house we lived in and into her own flat. "I don't know what will happen between us. I still love her. I doubt it's over for good. We've been through a hell of a lot in the past couple of years."

Doctor Who fans in disbelief over 'disrespect' of iconic star Jenna Coleman
Fans of Doctor Who have been left in a state of disbelief at the 'disrespect' of former companion and viewer favourite Clara Oswald. This came as a special episode of the spin-off documentary series Doctor Who: Unleashed celebrated 20 years of the sci-fi drama's rebooted iteration. First airing on BBC One on March 26 2005, Doctor Who returned to screens after an absence of 16 years, introducing Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, and Billie Piper as companion Rose Tyler. The rest, as they say, is history – and Doctor Who recently wrapped up its most recent series, with Ncuti Gatwa stepping down as the Fifteenth Doctor during a surprise regeneration. Looking back over 20 years of filming in Cardiff, last night's Unleashed paid tribute to Doctors and companions past. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. However, many fans were disappointed by one particularly glaring omission – namely, the curious absence of Clara Oswald, as played by Jenna Coleman. Clara was initially introduced as a companion to the Eleventh Doctor, as played by Matt Smith. First appearing in the Series Seven episode Asylum of the Daleks in 2012, Jenna's enigmatic appearance (playing one of three different people who shared a similar name, but the same face) turned into a full-time companionship under the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi). Clara departed the TARDIS in Series 9, with the 2015 finale Hell Bent being her last in a starring role. However, she did return for the Twelfth Doctor's final episode, showing up for a cameo in the 2017 Christmas special, Twice Upon A Time. As such, Clara is one of the rebooted Doctor's longer-serving companions… making her absence from this week's celebration seem particularly odd. 'I'm in utter disbelief over how little time was dedicated to the 12th Doctor's era in the new Unleashed ep, only a little under 2 minutes in an hour long special,' wrote DWfigurephotos on X. The user continued: 'The episode 'Blink' alone got more time dedicated to it than Peter's entire run! 🤦♂️ Also no Clara AT ALL?!' 'I know the Doctor temporarily lost all his memories of Clara, but it seems that the makers of Doctor Who Unleashed have forgotten about her completely,' said MrDavidEBrown. 'Is it just me or is it odd that the #DoctorWho Unleashed 20th Anniversary Special didn't even mention Clara. It just skipped over her completely. I can understand if Jenna Coleman wasn't available, but to not even mention or show the character seems really strange,' commented JovialVulcan. 'The whole time when Jenna Coleman played Clara, was skipped over. Her name not mentioned & only a glimpse of her from the distance in a scene from 'Deep Breath'. I wonder why that was?' said PayneNotes1. Also missing from the line-up was Series 3 and 4 companion Martha Jones, as played by Freema Agyeman. Surprisingly, Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday didn't rate a mention either, although she did appear in the background during an interview with Ncuti and Varada Sethu. Former companions who were included in this love letter to Cardiff-era Who included Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who played Amy and Rory Pond during Matt Smith's run on the show. Representing Peter's time, Pearl Mackie also addressed her time as Bill Potts, while Jodie Whittaker's TARDIS-mate Mandip Gill provided some insight of her own. Catherine Tate may not have appeared in an interview, but showrunner Russell T Davies and the documentary did at least acknowledge her existence. Meanwhile, as the most recent companion, Varada joined Ncuti on the red carpet to discuss their stints on the show. As perhaps the Doctor's most well-known companion, Billie Piper joined David Tennant as they reflected on their time in the TARDIS together. Both have returned to the show since their exit, with David starring in three special episodes last year after (re)regenerating from Jodie's much-maligned Thirteenth Doctor. His three-episode return culminated in the show's first bi-generation – heralding the arrival of Ncuti Gatwa as the show's Fifteenth Doctor. More Trending In shocking scenes during this month's series finale, Ncuti stepped down from the show after only two seasons – apparently regenerating into Billie Piper as the episode ended. Whether Billie is actually the Doctor remains to be seen, but her return to the show has left fans worried for its future. View More » Amid rumours that David Tennant might come back (again!) some have suggested that the show is 'running out of ideas' and coasting on its past. Got a story? Police storm Rivals set to arrest actor accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
Just one hour after he filmed a scene starring Danny Dyer, an extra on TV show Rivals was arrested. Nigel Adams was reportedly led away in cuffs by six police officers while he was still in costume. The 45-year-old had been shooting a polo scene, with a second series of the hit Disney+ drama starring Emily Atack and David Tennant recently confirmed. Avon and Somerset Police are believed to have been tipped off that the former bricklayer was working on the Rivals set this week; hence, two cop cars showed up. His co-stars are said to have watched on in shock, with a source telling The Sun that it was 'very dramatic'. 'Everyone was in their costumes, and Danny was filming this polo scene when, an hour later, police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras,' added the insider. 'It was shocking.' Adams is said to have spent two nights in a cell before appearing in Bristol magistrates' court on Friday, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The supporting actor, who has also appeared in Doctor Who and Casualty, is alleged to have assaulted her at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, with cops called to the address on May 31 at 2am. In court, he entered no plea and was given conditional bail. He's due back in the city's crown court on July 7. In a statement, Rivals production company Happy Prince said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Corroborating their statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man from Locking, Somerset, had been arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. As well as the shows mentioned, Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. In 2022, he appeared in the movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which starred Ray Winstone. More Trending Those close to Adams have now said he's fearing the end of his career as an extra due to the arrest. 'He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing,' said a friend. They added: 'He's a bricklayer by trade, but he's been doing more and more TV work; he's been in loads of stuff. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show, he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon… Check back shortly for further updates.
