Emmerdale star Jack Downham's Hollywood role before playing Noah Dingle

Daily Mirror09-05-2025
Jack Downham is best known to TV viewers as Emmerdale's Noah Dingle - but he has also appeared in a major Hollywood film, landing a role alongside some major A-list actors
Emmerdale fans have watched Jack Downham grow up on their screens, with the talented youngest joining the soap back in 2009 as Noah Dingle, Charity Dingle and Chris Tate's son.
Now, more than 15 years later, Jack has taken centre stage in some major storylines. Most recently, his character was spiked by his half-brother Joe Tate as part of a larger plot to steal a kidney from Noah.

But Emmerdale is not Jack's only big credit. He previously starred as Peter Morley on Heartbeat, and also played Young Robin in the 2010 blockbuster version of Robin Hood, alongside Hollywood heavyweights Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.

Jack, who attended the Scala School for Performing Arts in Horsforth at the time, took it all in his stride, according to his mum Clare.
Ahead of filming, she told the Telegraph and Argus: "We are all so excited about it but Jack is taking it in his stride. He had two screen tests at Scala then he went for an audition during half-term. He had a chat with Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott and got the part!
"He's completely into Robin Hood, he watches it every week," she added. "Now he's going to be Robin Hood himself! It seems a bit surreal."
And despite meeting two of Hollywood's most powerful figures, Jack wasn't remotely star-struck. "He doesn't get fazed by things like that so he was pretty relaxed," Clare shared. "It probably helped that he hasn't seen their films yet because they're generally not suitable for children of his age."
Jack isn't the only actor in the family. His sister Sophie has also racked up a number of impressive TV credits, including Unforgiven, Doctor Who, and Appropriate Adult, alongside Emily Mortimer and Dominic West.

Jack was cast permanently on Emmerdale in 2009 after a series of stints appearing as an extra. He is the third actor to have played the character of Noah Dingle, following in the footsteps of Alfie Mortimer and Sam Duffy.
At the start of the year, the 23-year-old star admitted he had his eyes on another TV show - but said he feared he would get a 'battering' if he ever signed up.

During an interview with Inside Soap about his life both on and off screen, the actor was asked if he'd like to appear in any reality TV.
Jack replied: "Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins would probably be the one. I think I'd take a battering and might be out on the second day. But I'd give it a go. I like to challenge myself."
Jack tends to keep his personal life out of the spotlight despite his soap stardom, and over the years has only shared a handful of posts on social media.

Emmerdale confirms new romance for 2 favourite characters

It seems a connection between Belle Dingle and Kammy Hadiq is 'on the cards' on the ITV soap, following suspicions from viewers over the last few weeks. Recently, many spotted Shebz Minah (who plays Kammy) posted a picture of him sitting on a sofa alongside Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle). The happy snap certainly got fans talking as one commented: ''Kammy and Belle?? Could this be a future relationship.' Another said: 'Omg, are they getting together on Emmerdale? If so, I saw it coming a mile away.' The rumoured on-screen romance was "announced" by the two cast members themselves, in a video posted on Emmerdale's social accounts. In the clip filmed for Yorkshire Day, Shebz and Eden were 'spilling the tea' on spoilers, stories and things 'they may not know about each other or the show'. As Eden pulled a rolled-up piece of paper from a teapot with a hidden message, Shebz responded: 'It's a big one this.' Eden continued: 'Spoiler – it's to do with me and you. 'A romance is on the cards for Kammy and Belle. 'How do you feel about that Shebz?' A post shared by Emmerdale (@emmerdale) Shebz revealed: 'It's been amazing, like the scenes we've had have been so fun. 'It's been a mixed bag because I think for Kammy and Belle, they go on like this journey and that. "And I think it's just nice to have like a bit of normality and mixed with a bit of banter. You get all these different feelings that happen during the scene. It's been really enjoyable. I'm not going to lie, I've really enjoyed it." Eden added: 'Stay tuned to see what's next.' Belle's last relationship saw the character physically and mentally abused by her husband Tom King, played by James Chase, before he was sent to prison. Which is why Emmerdale fans think Kammy is 'just what Belle needs' after 'Tom the sociopath'. Reacting to the video on the ITV's soap Reddit page, this person wrote: 'love kammy,he makes me laugh. I think they would be a fab couple.' Someone else commented: 'I am all for it ,just what Belle needs after Tom the sociopath!' One account said: 'Oh I think I love this! Belle needs someone fun and a bit carefree. Kant [Kammy] has an absolute heart of gold and he'll bring some much needed cheer to belles life." Coronation Street star announces abrupt exit as character 'killed off' without warning

One Coronation Street star confirmed they had left the ITV soap with their final scenes airing on Friday, with fans convinced their character was killed off in a twist A Coronation Street star has confirmed their exit from the ITV soap and it's already aired. ‌ In a brutal twist their character may have been killed off, after the actor's farewell post left fans convinced they were "brown bread". Logan Radcliffe was back on the ITV soap this week, visited in prison by Carla Connor. ‌ She was desperate for answers on what happened to her partner Lisa Swain's late wife Becky Swain. It comes as Lisa was struggling to move forward, not knowing for sure if Becky was in trouble before her death and why she was killed, accident or not, and Carla wanted to help. ‌ She visited Logan who demanded £10,000 for information he may have on Becky. He then let slip a name, Tia Wardley, while no context was given. Whoever she is, it was enough to land Logan in trouble with a cellmate over a "mutual friend" he'd upset. He was told he had said too much, and with that his cell door was closed with it clear he was in danger. ‌ As the episode came to an end, actor Harry Lowbridge, who pays Logan, took to Instagram to announce his exit from the show. Confirming his final scenes had now aired, the ones with the random cellmate, he confirmed post-attack he would not be seen again. With that, fans were convinced Logan was now dead. They beloeved whoever Tia was, fake or not, he'd said too much and a mystery person made the cellmate punish him. Fans believe it will emerge that Logan is dead, killed in his cell, with the actor confirming no more scenes were planned. He shared on Instagram: "Farewell Logan. It's been a blast x." ‌ Taking to social media after the post and the scenes, fans shared their theories that the soap had just killed off a character without warning. One viewer said: "So Logan is brown bread then?" Another fan agreed: "RIP Logan," as a third viewer said; "So Logan gets killed off in prison then!" A further comment read; "Harry posting a goodbye? Has Logan been killed in prison?" ‌ The comments kept on coming with one fan writing: "Okay so when Logan is killed in prison then what?!" Whether Logan is dead or alive is yet to be revealed despite suspicions, with fans wondering if he will return at some point - and if we will find out who it was that orchestrated the attack. Then there's the fact that Tia could or could not be linked to the plot. Why are people so desperate to keep the truth hidden too? All will have to be revealed at some point.
