Shakira, Jason Aldean, and Brooks and Dunn Fenway shows abruptly cancelled just hours before showtime—Here's what we know
Boston was buzzing with excitement as global superstar Shakira and country heavyweights Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn were all set to light up Fenway Park this week—but in a dramatic turn of events, the highly anticipated concerts were cancelled at the last minute, leaving fans heartbroken and demanding answers. Late Wednesday, just hours before the first show was set to begin, Fenway's official concert account dropped the bombshell via Instagram and X: 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th, respectively, at Fenway Park have been cancelled.' And just like that, months of planning and excitement evaporated. While ticket refunds were promised, no clear reason was initially given—adding to the swirl of speculation and frustration online. But behind the vague 'unforeseen circumstances,' sources told TMZ that Boston Inspectional Services pulled the plug due to building issues—specifically, safety concerns related to the stage's structural integrity. PEOPLE later confirmed with a source that a routine pre-show inspection flagged critical faults, leading to the shutdown. 'All team members are safe,' the source assured—but that didn't stop the rumour mill from churning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In the comment section of Fenway Concerts' cancellation post, fans claimed stage construction issues were to blame. 'The stage roof buckled when trying to mount one of the big screens,' one person alleged. Needless to say, the cancellation sparked a wave of disappointment—many fans had flown in, booked hotels, and taken time off work. 'They better refund people for plane tickets and hotels too. BS!!!' one fan fumed. To make matters more bittersweet, Shakira herself had already arrived in Boston. Just a day before the announcement, she took to Instagram Stories with a cheerful 'Hello, Boston! What a sweet welcome!' alongside a photo of a table full of colourful macaroons and framed photos of the singer—likely a warm welcome from her hotel or team. Adding salt to the wound, Fenway Park had reshared Shakira's post only hours before announcing the cancellation. Jason Aldean, for his part, simply reposted the venue's message to his Instagram Stories—no additional statement, no elaboration. Still, fans flooded his page with messages of disappointment: 'Huge fan, Jason… someone's gotta say something about what happened at least.' With no rescheduled dates announced yet and lingering questions about what really went wrong backstage, fans are left stunned—and hoping their favourite stars can find a way to make it up to them soon. Cody Johnson joins Brooks & Dunn on 'Red Dirt Road' for ACM Awards performance
In the past two years, Texan Cody Johnson has achieved 12 Academy of Country Music Award nominations while touring the world and selling out Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on multiple evenings. His performance of "Red Dirt Road" with Brooks & Dunn at the 2025 ACM Awards on May 8 felt like a coronation moment. The trio had the crowd on its feet as they ripped through the classic song. However, like the horses the authentic rodeo cowboy still rides, he's not letting any dirt settle under his feet. Johnson initially recorded a version of "Red Dirt Road" for the Country Music Hall of Fame-inducted tandem's "Reboot" album in 2019. Brooks & Dunn also paid back the favor by collaborating with Johnson on his "Leather" album track "Long Live Country Music" in 2023. Johnson said the legendary performers have always treated him "like family." Over the past five years, they've grown from not knowing each other to Brooks and Dunn serving as mentors of sorts to the "The Painter" vocalist. "Like Reba McEntire, Kix and Ronnie are my heroes who have become my friends," Johnson said. Johnson delved deeper and established a connection to artists like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, whose legacies have paved the way for the one he now has the opportunity to uphold in the current era. "Texas has always made country music fun and exciting," he said. "I love this music, but I'm already thinking about trying to outdo it," Johnson told The Tennessean in November about his award-nominated songs of late. At the ACMs, he took home song of the year. Along with moments like sharing the ACM Awards stage with Brooks & Dunn, the performer said he is excited about his next career steps. He took home song of the year earlier in the night. "I'm excited by how good these songs make me feel. Also, I thrive on the pressure of competition, even if it's with myself. In every way, I'm prepared to put forth my best effort to set a higher standard of success." Why Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn abruptly boot-scooted off-stage during concert encore
The team for country music duo Brooks & Dunn has shed more light on what led to singer Ronnie Dunn's abrupt exit at a recent concert. A representative for the Grammy-winning pair known for 'Neon Moon' and 'Brand New Man' told USA Today on Monday that the 71-year-old Dunn 'wasn't feeling well from being sick' when he bowed out early during an encore on Thursday. At the time, Brooks & Dunn were performing at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Radio host Matt Malone recorded the moment of Dunn's unexpected exit and shared the video to TikTok on Friday. In the clip, Dunn can be seen rocking out with Kix Brooks and their bassist as they perform their twangy hit 'Boot Scootin' Boogie.' After encouraging fans to 'sing it if you know it,' Dunn looks at the bassist, shakes his head and gestures that he's done for the evening. Dunn then walks to the edge of the stage where he extends his arms to the audience, taps his hand over his heart and waves. The video ends with Dunn exiting the stage. 'Feel better, Ronnie,' Malone captioned his video, which has garnered more than 86,000 likes. 'Thanks for giving us all you could!!' Brooks & Dunn got its start in the late 1980s and gained popularity and critical acclaim for many songs including 'Hard Workin' Man,' 'You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone' and 'Cowgirls Don't Cry.' The country music pair has two Grammy wins, and dozens of Country Music Assn. and Academy of Country Music awards combined under its belt. Despite Dunn leaving the show early on Thursday and mounting concern and speculation about his health, Brooks & Dunn carried on. The representative told USA Today that 'Saturday night's show went on as planned.' They performed at the Allstate Arena at Rosemont, Ill. Brooks & Dunn released its latest album 'Reboot II' in November and has three shows remaining this month on its New Moon tour.
