Interfaith gathering opposes Waqf, Bodh Gaya Temple Acts

1 2 Nagpur: Prominent voices from both the Muslim and Buddhist communities on Sunday called for mass movement against the implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 and the Bodh Gaya Temple Act. Representatives from both communities had gathered under one roof at an interfaith conference on Constitutional Rights organised by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and the Bharatiya Bhagidari Mission (BBM) at the Babasaheb Ambedkar International Convention Centre, Teka. The speakers alleged that the recent amendments infringed on the fundamental rights of religious freedom and the autonomy of religious institutions under Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution. Key speakers included AIMPLB spokesperson Qasim Rasul Ilyas, AIMPLB general secretary Moulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, advocate Suresh Mane (founder-president, BBM), advocate Firdos Mirza and advocate Bhupendra Raipure. Ilyas called for a mass movement against the Act just like the farmers' protest in 2021 against the farm laws. "We must be prepared for a mass movement to ensure these discriminatory laws are rolled back, if not by this govt, then by the next govt," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Dr Vinod Rangari, district president of BBM, initiated the discussion followed by an introductory address by Abdul Rauf Shaikh, former CEO of the Maharashtra Waqf Board, who highlighted the object of the interfaith conference. AIMPLB urges Union min for safety audit of Ajmer dargah

Jaipur: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board ( AIMPLB ) has urged Union minority affairs minister Kiran Rijiju to conduct an urgent structural safety audit of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, following two concerning incidents of roof and ceiling collapse in the past two weeks. The Board has also demanded that the 800-year-old shrine be released from central govt control, citing neglect and mismanagement. In a letter addressed to Rijiju, the AIMPLB, which is currently leading the opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, reminded the Union govt of the 1955 assurances made when the Dargah was brought under state management. The Board claims those assurances included the complete protection and maintenance of the shrine's heritage structures. "Several parts of the Dargah complex are 500 to 600 years old. With monsoon in full swing, a single spell of heavy rain could cause more damage or even result in tragedy if urgent repairs and safety inspections are not carried out," said Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, general secretary of AIMPLB. The Board has gone a step further by demanding that the Dargah be freed from central govt control, accusing the current administration of failing in its responsibility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "This is example of the Modi govt's neglect of Muslim heritage sites. They haven't even conducted a structural audit of this 800-year-old shrine. If this is how they treat Ajmer Dargah, imagine what they plan to do with Waqf properties under the new amendments," said Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, spokesperson of AIMPLB. Ilyas added, "We demand that the Dargah be released from the clutches of the Union govt. Muslim organisations across the country should register their protest." Syed Sarwar Chishty, secretary of the Dargah Anjuman, on Friday released a video showing water seepage in the outer wall of the main sanctum along with the Sandali Mosque, raising alarms about the structural integrity of the shrine. The incessant rains on Friday, which caused flood-like conditions in Ajmer, endangered several other parts of the Dargah complex. Community leaders and shrine authorities are calling for immediate intervention to avert a potential disaster.

AIMPLB urges political parties to address Justice Shekhar Yadav's controversial remarks

ANI 26 Jun 2025, 17:48 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has formally appealed to major political parties to take appropriate action regarding remarks made by Justice Shekhar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court during a speech delivered on December 8, 2024, within court premises. In its representation, the AIMPLB conveyed deep concern over the lack of response to what it described as a troubling deviation from constitutional values. The letter, authored by AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, condemned the speech for allegedly reflecting a sectarian viewpoint under the guise of constitutional interpretation. 'The Learned Judge,' the Board stated, 'appears to have disregarded the constitutional stature of his office and spoken from a perspective shaped by personal beliefs rather than the inclusive spirit of India's secular principles. Such remarks challenge the neutrality expected from the judiciary and threaten the Rule of Law.' The Board underscored that religious freedom and cultural practices -- particularly within the domain of personal laws -- are safeguarded by the Constitution and must be protected in a nation as diverse as India. It cautioned that silence in the face of such incidents could set a dangerous precedent. Six months after the speech, the Board voiced disappointment with the political leadership's failure to respond. It urged all parties to reinforce the constitutional ethos and ensure that members of the judiciary maintain impartiality and refrain from expressing partisan positions. The letter concluded with a strong call to action: 'It is imperative that the political class initiates appropriate constitutional steps to uphold judicial neutrality and safeguard the secular character of the nation.' AIMPLB members demands withdrawal of Waqf Amendment Act 2025

I Suleiman Khan, assistant general secretary and State Convener of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and AIMPLB district convener Dr. Mohammed Asgar Chulbul criticised the Central Government for introducing the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, and said that they would continue to protest until the bill is repealed. Mr. Suleiman and Dr. Chulbul, addressing joint press persons in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), alleged that the newly amended Waqf Act is aimed at weakening the foundations of Waqf governance and undermining the rights of Muslim community. They alleged that the government wants to control the Waqf properties by regulating their management and the power it gets through the new Act to determine whether the property belongs to Waqf or not. Opposing the inclusion of non-Muslim members on the Waqf Boards, Mr. Suleiman said that it would interfere with the Muslim community's right to manage its own affairs, given by the Constitution. Dr. Chulbul alleged that the Modi-led Government was targeting the Muslim community by misusing its majority to bring in discriminatory amendments to the Waqf Act forcibly against the will of the community. Furthermore, the condition requiring a Waqf (donor) to be a practicing Muslim for at least five years is not only against the Indian legal framework and constitutional Articles 14 and 26 but also conflicts with Islamic Sharia principles, he added. 'We wish to make it clear that these amendments not only violate the fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 15, 25, 26 and 29 of the Indian Constitution but also expose the government's malicious intent to gain total control over the administration of Waqf properties' Dr. Chulbul expressed. These new Waqf Amendment Act prevent the Muslim minority from freely managing their own religious endowments (Waqf). Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution guarantee the freedom of conscience and the right to profess, practice, and propagate religion, as well as the right to establish and manage religious and charitable institutions, but the newly enforced law deprives Muslim community of these fundamental rights. They urged the immediate intervention of the President of India to withdraw the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, citing it as undemocratic and anti-minority.
