Oman Radio wins second prize in Music competition
TUNIS: Oman Radio has secured second prize in the "Song" category of the Arab Music and Singing Competition, organised by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) based in Tunis, for the song Mawtan Al Jalal. The winning entry features lyrics by Hisham al Saqri, composition and arrangement by Asaad al Raisi and vocals by Abdulhameed al Kiyoumi. The competition saw broad participation from Arab broadcasting entities, including both public and private radio stations, with 11 songs and 8 musical pieces submitted from Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Yemen, Comoros and Libya. Asaad al Raisi, the composer and arranger of the song, stated that this achievement marks a significant cultural and artistic addition to Oman Radio's record in the Arab Music and Singing Competition under ASBU. The competition is among ASBU's cultural and artistic initiatives, launched as part of its ongoing efforts to support Arab musical and vocal creativity and advance Arabic musical culture. - ONA

ASBU Director General Praises the Iraqi Media Network's Efforts in Hosting the Arab Media Conference
The Director General of the Arab States Broadcasting Union ASBU, Abdelrahim Suleiman, expressed his appreciation on Thursday for the efforts of the Iraqi Media Network in hosting the Arab Media Conference. In his remarks during the conference attended by an Iraqi News Agency INA reporter, Suleiman extended his 'gratitude and appreciation to Iraq, its leadership and people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.' He also conveyed 'sincere respect and appreciation to the Prime Minister of Iraq for his direct supervision of the conference proceedings.' He added that 'four years ago, the Union launched its first initiative with a strong will to solidify its media mission. Through the annual forum, we aim to establish a space for in-depth reflection and a platform for dialogue on the most pressing contemporary issues.' Suleiman noted that 'in a short period, the conference has achieved tangible results,' emphasizing 'the importance of keeping pace with the challenges of the present reality, especially regarding climate change and the role of media in addressing it, given that it poses a real threat to human life.' He also commended 'the joint efforts in organizing this conference, which began early in collaboration between the Arab States Broadcasting Union and the Iraqi Media Network under the leadership of Karim Hammadi.' He concluded, 'I can only highly value the tremendous efforts made to ensure the success of this important event. We are confident that the conference, along with the rich discussions it generates, will pave the way for achieving impactful and meaningful outcomes.'

President of ASBU: Media Plays a Vital Role in Promoting Positive Behavior to Support Environmental Policies
The President of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), Mohammad Fahd Al-Harthi, affirmed on Thursday that the role of the media as a soft and influential power extends beyond shaping public opinion to promoting positive behavior and supporting sustainable environmental policies. In his speech at the Fourth Arab Media Conference in Baghdad, attended by an Iraqi News Agency (INA) reporter, Al-Harthi said 'It gives me great pleasure at the outset of my speech to welcome you to the fourth edition of the Arab Media Conference, which is being held for the first time outside its host country, Tunisia, in the city of Al-Rasheed, Baghdad, the cradle of civilization and a beacon of arts, sciences, and literature.' He added, 'This conference comes at a time when environmental challenges are intensifying, and there is a real need for collective efforts to confront the threat of climate change, which has become one of the gravest threats facing humanity.' Al-Harthi expressed, on behalf of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, deep appreciation and gratitude to the leadership, government, and people of Iraq for their warm hospitality and generous reception, saying 'This is not unusual from Iraq and its people. I would also like to thank the Iraqi Media Network for its initiative in hosting the Arab Media Conference in Baghdad and for providing all necessary support and facilities. Special thanks go to the President of the Network, Abdul Karim Hamadi, and his team for their efforts in ensuring the success of this event.' He noted that 'climate change is no longer a scientific matter confined to laboratories or conferences; it has become a reality we live with daily, from extreme weather changes, wildfires, and rising temperatures to water scarcity and sea-level rise.' 'This reality poses a real threat to humanity and affects social, humanitarian, and political dimensions,' he continued, emphasizing that 'in the face of these challenges, media plays a vital role as a soft power, not only in shaping public opinion, but also in promoting positive behaviors, supporting sustainable environmental policies, and encouraging societal dialogue on the essential issue of protecting our planet.' 'When we discussed the theme of this conference, we could have chosen more sensational political or economic topics,' he said, 'but we insisted on addressing climate change due to its importance and sensitivity. We must admit that media has not given this issue the attention it deserves, nor have we fully understood its seriousness. According to the World Economic Forum, climate change effects could result in the deaths of 14.5 million people and losses amounting to $12.5 trillion by 2050.' He pointed out that 'our region, the Middle East, is experiencing temperature increases above the global average, posing serious risks of desertification, drought, and water scarcity. Our reality is difficult, and media must rise to the level of these challenges.' Al-Harthi added, 'There are positive developments, such as the 'Green Middle East Initiative' and the 'Saudi Green Initiative' launched by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. These strategic initiatives aim to mitigate the impact of climate change, establish infrastructure to reduce emissions, and protect the environment, which will positively impact the region.' He expressed hope that 'this conference will issue a document or charter for environmental media that outlines key principles for this topic, including mechanisms for verifying facts and information especially in an age of widespread misinformation—and presenting scientific content that is suitable for all audiences and age groups.' Al-Harthi stressed 'the importance of leveraging digital transformations, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and virtual and augmented reality to deliver simplified and accessible content to the public.' 'Our goal from this conference is not merely to discuss how to cover climate change news,' he said, 'but to become active partners in change and in building awareness. The climate change battle cannot be won unless everyone is part of the solution, not part of the problem.' Despite the current challenges and future risks, he concluded, 'I am fully confident that through collaboration between public and private media institutions, government bodies, international organizations, civil society, research centers, and universities, we can address this issue and develop an advanced Arab media vision aligned with this reality.' 'Our responsibility as media professionals is no less than that of policymakers and decision-makers,' Al-Harthi emphasized, 'for the beginning of change lies in creating awareness. This conference and similar initiatives are messages of action—choosing hope over regret, and building optimism and change for our present and for the future of the coming generations.'

ASBU commends Iraq's cooperation in facilitating coverage of Baghdad Summit
Baghdad-INA The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) commended Iraq's cooperation in facilitating coverage of Baghdad Summit on Friday. Awad Eid, head of the Multimedia Exchange Networks Department at the ASBU, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "The ASBU is interested in covering the Arab Summit, and is one of the media arms of the League of Arab States." He noted that "the Union had previously visited Iraq three months ago, and there is prior communication via email to coordinate the coverage requirements of the League's member bodies, as well as international agencies, as part of the media preparation process for the summit." He added: "We came to Baghdad as part of a delegation that included the Director-General of the ASBU. We held a meeting with the Iraqi Media Network and the Prime Minister's Office. During the meetings, all requirements for covering the summit were identified, as well as how to provide the capabilities that facilitate the work of journalists in performing their duties." "We seek to leverage the Arab States Broadcasting Union's platforms, whether online or through 4G and 5G networks, to provide advanced services in covering the event." Awad said. He pointed out that "the ongoing meetings aim to provide a media center equipped with all the editorial capabilities journalists need."

First ASBU delegation arrives in Baghdad ahead of Arab Summit
Baghdad-INA The first delegation from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming Arab Summit, The Media Committee for Baghdad Summit said. The 15-member delegation includes journalists and media professionals,according to the statement of the committee member Haidar Majid to the Iraqi News Agency-INA. 'The media center dedicated to summit coverage is fully operational, featuring multiple halls, live broadcast studios, and all necessary technical equipment,' Majid said, noting that six studios will be available for use by media outlets. He added that several Arab and international media organizations have already arrived in Baghdad over the past two days, with more delegations expected in the coming days. Coordination is ongoing with local media. He also affirmed that The Media Committee for Baghdad Summit has arranged logistics for visiting journalists, including transport from the airport to accommodations and to the media center throughout the summit and associated ministerial meetings
