Digital curricula rolled out for grades 1 to 12 in Omani schools

Muscat – A national initiative has been launched to digitise school curricula of grades 1 to 12 as part of broader efforts to modernise the country's education system and equip students with digital skills. Spearheaded by Ministry of Education (MoE), in collaboration with BP Oman, the initiative was unveiled on Wednesday at a ceremony held under the patronage of H E Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in the presence of H E Dr Madiha bint Ahmed al Shaibani, Minister of Education. The school curricula digitisation project aims to convert textbooks and learning resources into interactive digital formats to enhance accessibility, promote self-learning and provide both students and teachers with updated educational tools. 'The curricula digitisation project provides teachers with modern educational tools and supports students with a more interactive, flexible, and comprehensive learning experience that suits their individual needs and abilities,' said H E Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, MoE Undersecretary. The rollout will take place in six phases, beginning with preparatory work to set educational and technical standards, followed by content analysis, development of educational scenarios and digital content production. A pilot phase will be conducted in selected schools before the material is made available on MoE's e-learning portal and the 'Noor' platform. The digital material will support collaborative learning, improve academic performance, and broaden teaching and assessment methods. The digitisation initiative is also expected to equip students with essential digital and analytical skills for future employment.

MUSCAT: Represented by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 37th meeting of heads of GCC Olympic Committees, held in Kuwait today. Oman was represented at the meeting by Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, Deputy Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee. The meeting looked into the report filed by the organising committee of the 3rd GCC Beach Games (Muscat 2025) held in Muscat Governorate from April 5 to 11, 2025. The meeting's participants expressed thanks and gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for the efforts it made to ensure the success of the the 3rd GCC Beach Games. — ONA

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education honoured the winners of the Omani Educational Excellence Award in its second edition for the 2024/2025 academic year, under the auspices of Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, on Wednesday. A total of 25 teachers won the award including five female teachers from grades 1-4, five female teachers and five male teachers from grades 5-8 and five female teachers and five male teachers from grades 9-12. Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, said that the award stems from deep appreciation for the distinguished efforts and dedication of teachers, noting that the award had gone through a careful transitional phase since its inception. He added that the Ministry of Education has developed a special electronic system to evaluate the second phase of the award within a process that ensures transparency and embodies the highest evaluation standards. The award aims to foster a spirit of positive competition among teachers to achieve excellence and creativity, encourage innovative initiatives in teaching methods, improve student learning and motivate teachers to implement interactive e-learning in the educational process. Muscat – Ministry of Education (MoE) honoured 25 outstanding teachers on Wednesday in the second edition of the Omani Teacher Excellence Award for the 2024/2025 academic year. The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development. The winners included five female teachers of Grades 1 to 4, ten teachers (five male and five female) of Grades 5 to 8, and ten teachers (five male and five female) of Grades 9 to 12. Speaking on the occasion, H E Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, MoE Undersecretary, said, 'The teaching profession is not just a job; it is a mission, a life project and a fundamental driver of human development. The teacher is the one who plants the seeds of inspiration in students, watering them with the values.' He described the award as a gesture of deep appreciation for the commitment and dedication of educators, and said it had gone through careful planning since its inception. 'MoE has developed a dedicated electronic system to evaluate the second phase of the award, ensuring transparency and the highest standards of fairness.' H E Ambusaidi praised the efforts of the Supervisory and Evaluation Committee and support teams involved in the award process, noting their contribution to setting standards and overseeing its implementation. He congratulated the winners, calling their success a step towards greater educational excellence. The award process includes two stages. The first covers students' academic performance, inspection reports, teacher proficiency and learning time. The final phase evaluates teaching methods, school participation, professional development and community involvement. The award aims to encourage innovation and creativity in teaching, promote the use of interactive e-learning and raise academic outcomes. It also seeks to highlight outstanding initiatives and build stronger partnerships between schools and the wider community.

Muscat – The third international conference of the Omani Libraries and Information Association (OLIA) opened today in Muscat, under the patronage of H E Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education in the Ministry Education. Running until February 13, the event brings together global experts to explore the role of artificial intelligence in libraries and knowledge management. Dr Nabhan bin Harith al Harrasi, President of the Arab Federation for Libraries, described the conference as a vital platform for sharing expertise on AI applications in the sector. The event features 41 scientific papers across 10 sessions, covering topics such as data investment through AI and digital transformation in academic and medical libraries. The first day included a presentation on the development of Omani libraries and their role in preserving knowledge, alongside discussions on AI's potential in improving library services. The conference also includes workshops and professional meetings with international institutions to foster collaboration.
