Did Virat Kohli Take Subtle 'Impact Player' Dig At Rohit Sharma? Internet Ponders

Last Updated: Virat Kohli's statement about not wanting to play as an impact player but making an impact as a fielder has fans speculating if it's a dig at Rohit Sharma. Ace India batter Virat Kohli's statement that he doesn't want to play as an impact player and rather make an impact as a fielder during the 20 overs has left fans online wondering if he took a subtle dig at Rohit Sharma, who played as an impact player throughout IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians. Kohli, who has been the face of the team since its initial years, could not hold back his joy after Bengaluru edged out the Punjab Kings by just six runs in a nerve-racking final. Kohli was interviewed by Matthew Hayden after the game, where the former discussed in detail the win and his future with Bengaluru. Kohli remains the only cricketer to have played for a single team since the tournament's inception, and Kohli said that he wants to give everything on the field for Bengaluru until his last game. 'Well, I have an opportunity to play this game for not many years. So there is an end date to our career, as you know. And by the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had," Kohli said. 'So I look for ways to improve. I cannot play as an impact player. I want to field 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That is the kind of player I have been. And God blessed me with that perspective, with the talent," Kohli added. Rohit, one of the Indian Premier League's leading names and the second-highest run-scorer, has been used as an impact player in IPL 2025. 'Nobody wants to play as an impact player. MI management forced Rohit Sharma to play as an impact player," a fan tweeted in the wee hours of Wednesday. 'Virat Kohli: I don't want to play as an impact player, I want to field for 20 overs. Subtle. Very subtle," another fan tweeted. Virat Kohli Takes Victory Lap At Narendra Modi Stadium With IPL Trophy

Last Updated: Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated their first IPL title with a victory lap at Narendra Modi Stadium. Ace India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli took a victory lap around the Narendra Modi Stadium with his band of teammates as the franchise lifted their maiden Indian Premier League title, after striving for it for 18 long years, culminating in a moment of glory on Tuesday night in Ahmedabad. Over 90000 people attended the final of IPL 2025, and a lot of them stayed back for the presentation ceremony and the eventual celebrations. The fans were treated to the victory lap, and Kohli cheered them on, lifting the trophy up high as the people captured the moments on their phones. Watch the video here: Victory Lap with Trophy! 🏆❤️ — Virat Kohli Fan Club (@Trend_VKohli) June 4, 2025 While Bengaluru weren't just a tad conservative in the big final, luck didn't favour the fourth-time finalists chasing their maiden trophy a great deal as well, as each of their batters perished after getting a start. And there were no fireworks on the night of the big final as Kohli, looking to anchor the innings the way he has done in the past, perished after his laborious effort in the middle. Kohli struck a mere three boundaries, two after the ninth over, as he got his 43 runs off 35 deliveries at 122.85. Bengaluru's slowing down post the powerplay, in which they scored 55/1, saw their batters farming the strike rather than taking initiative to aim for big overs, with just 42 runs coming between overs 6-11. Phil Salt's early exit had a major impact on how Bengaluru's innings progressed thereon, but none of the following batters, including Mayank Agarwal (24), Rajat Patidar (26) and Liam Livingstone (25) could convert their starts. The lanky Kyle Jamieson had a huge impact, not just finding the right lengths and variations to keep a lid on the batters but accounting for three key batters to push Bengaluru back further. In the second over, after Salt hit Jamieson for a four over mid-on, he had the Bengaluru opener caught off Shreyas Iyer, and in the 11th, after Patidar smacked him for a six over mid-off, Jamieson bowled a superb slow yorker which pinned the batter in front of the wickets. 'Each Individual Has Had Their Own Journey': Virat Kohli Leaves Message For Rajat Patidar & Co

Ace India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli on Tuesday gave a huge shoutout to his teammates and the management, acknowledging that while he has struggled for 18 years with the team to bag one trophy, every individual in the team has had their journeys, and it is for everyone to savour the moment. Bengaluru beat the Punjab Kings by just six runs to bag their first-ever Indian Premier League crown in front of a huge crowd in Ahmedabad.

'Quality Of Journalism Has Gone Down': Rohit Sharma Slams Scribes, Commentators

Last Updated: India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has criticised media for prioritising views over cricket analysis. India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, who announced his Test retirement on Wednesday, has taken a massive dig at reporters and commentators, saying that the quality of journalism has gone down and there is no discussion on tactics and analysis, rather focusing more on garnering views. Rohit said that the current state of commentary in India is a disservice to genuine cricket lovers who are eager to deepen their understanding of cricket. Rohit accused Indian broadcasters of focusing on a single star player and discussing his personal life, rather than appreciating the cricket itself. 'You guys are focused on creating controversy, on blowing up news. The quality of journalism has gone down. Earlier, conversations would revolve around cricket. Now, it's all about getting views, likes, and making more people read your articles," Rohit said while speaking to journalist Vimal Kumar. 'Very little is written or spoken about the game itself. Tactics, analysis, it's all missing. When there's a match on, we watch it on TV. But listen to how commentators speak these days," Rohit added. The India ODI captain isn't the sole senior player to have voiced concerns about the standard of commentary in India. Ace India batter Virat Kohli has been critical as well in the past. 'Yes, things have sometimes gone out of our hands, and we haven't performed well. We fully deserve criticism for that. Yes, we didn't do well against New Zealand at home, so yes, criticise us," Rohit said. 'But there's a way to criticise people. I think here, it's agenda-driven criticism. That's not likeable," Rohit added. Meanwhile, the man who handed the India ODI captain his Test cap marvelled at his growth in the format, while the bunch which bloomed under his captaincy called Rohit a talismanic presence in the dressing room. The 38-year-old India ODI skipper announced his retirement from Tests on Wednesday, having represented India in 67 matches in which he led in 24. Rohit will next be seen in action when the Mumbai Indians take on the Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 11 in Ahmedabad, a fixture which was shifted from Dharamsala due to the closure of airports across multiple venues in North India due to India-Pakistan cross-border tensions.
