Anvar continues tirade against Satheesan
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State convener P.V. Anvar continued his tirade against United Democratic Front (UDF) chairman V.D. Satheesan on Thursday (June 5), reiterating that the UDF would not win the Nilambur byelection as long as Mr. Satheesan remained at the helm. He said 'two Pinarayi Vijayans' were facing the election in Nilambur. 'Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate M. Swaraj is the spokesperson of Pinarayism, and the UDF candidate is a supporter of Pinarayism,' he added. Mr. Anvar credited himself with highlighting the problems and sufferings of the settler farmer communities living in the hills of Kerala, particularly Nilambur. Anvar claimed he was convinced by the people of Nilambur to enter the fray. 'Unlike transient politicians, I will stay with the ordinary people of Nilambur. That is why they want me by their side,' he said.

Nilambur scene turns murkier as Anvar prepares to contest
The electoral scene in Nilambur Assembly constituency, which goes to the polls on June 19, turned murkier with All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State convener P.V. Anvar changing his stance and deciding to contest. Sources close to Mr. Anvar said that he would be contesting under the AITC banner. However, some others indicated that Mr. Anvar's move would be the last-ditch effort to pressure the United Democratic Front (UDF). UDF chairman and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan said that there would not be any more talks with Mr. Anvar. 'We have closed all doors of discussion as Mr. Anvar stuck to his stand of opposing the UDF candidate in Nilambur,' said Mr. Satheesan. However, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph said that the doors were closed for the time being. 'No doors are permanently closed in politics,' he said. Mr. Joseph said that the electoral battle in Nilambur would be completely political, and not personal. He said the UDF would win comfortably even if Mr. Anvar contests. 'Nilambur is going to be an anti-Government verdict,' he said. Youth Congress State president Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA, visited Mr. Anvar at his Edavanna house on Saturday (May 31, 2025) night and persuaded him to change his stand. Mr. Mamkootathil said that he had requested Mr. Anvar not to take any decision emotionally. Rather, he said, Mr. Anvar should support the UDF in the fight against Pinarayism. 'I told Mr. Anvar not to miss the objective,' he said. Meanwhile, the UDF chairman described Mr. Mamkootathil's visit to Mr. Anvar as a mistake. 'The UDF did not entrust him to visit and talk to Mr. Anvar. He should not have done it,' said Mr. Satheesan. But he said the UDF would not seek any explanation from the Youth Congress chief. 'I will chastise him when I meet him. He is like my younger brother. I can do that,' said Mr. Satheesan.

Nilambur byelection: Reconciliation chances dim as Anvar targets Satheesan
Kozhikode: The chance of UDF and former Nilambur MLA and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) state convener PV Anvar working together in Nilambur bypoll faded on Thursday as neither side backed down. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Anvar launched a sharp attack on opposition leader VD Satheesan even as UDF said it will make a final decision on Friday. Anvar accused Satheesan of using the bypoll to sideline him instead of focusing on CM Pinarayi Vijayan. "Satheesan has a hidden agenda. UDF leaders may not see it yet, but I do," he alleged, adding that Satheesan stopped his meeting with AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday The meeting, meant to discuss cooperation during bypoll, was cancelled after Satheesan threatened to quit as UDF chairman if it happened. I came to Kozhikode by 5pm and waited until 7:45pm to meet Venugopal. But the meeting did not happen because Satheesan objected, Anvar alleged. Meanwhile Satheesan said Anvar must first say if he supports UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath. Only then will UDF share its position on him. IUML national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty said UDF will decide by Friday evening. "No talks will happen until then. We have one last meeting and will announce our decision after," he said. KPCC chief Sunny Joseph said Anvar must take back his public comments against Shoukath. "If he does that, there will be no problems moving forward," he said. Meanwhile, CPM state secretary MV Govindan said Nilambur will reject Anvar's 'political betrayal'. In an article published by party mouthpiece Deshabhimani, he blamed Shoukath for the defeat of former DCC president VV Prakash in 2021 election. Govindan said a Facebook post by Prakash's daughter was a hidden attack on Shoukath. After TMC state secretariat meeting, Anvar said the party will decide on contesting the bypoll on Friday.

TMC Joins Indias Global Anti-Terror Push: Abhishek Banerjee Nominated For All-Party Delegation
All-Party Delegations: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday nominated MP Abhishek Banerjee to represent All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the All-Party Delegations for India's global push against terrorism. TMC had earlier pulled out its leader, Yusuf Pathan, from the All-Party Delegation, citing that the Centre "cannot decide the member's name on their own." "We're delighted to share that our Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial has nominated Nat'l GS Shri @abhishekaitc to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India's global outreach against terrorism," the post read. The party added in the post, "at a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Shri Abhishek Banerjee's inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table." "His presence will not only reflect Bengal's firm stand against terror but also strengthen India's collective voice on the global stage," the post read. We're delighted to share that our Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial has nominated Nat'l GS Shri @abhishekaitc to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India's global outreach against terrorism. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee says "...No request came to us. If a request came to us, then we could consider. We are in favour of the country. In the external affairs issue, we have always supported the policy of the Centre. At present, we are supporting the Central Govt's views and actions. They cannot decide the member's name on their own. It is not their choice, it is the choice of the party. If they requested me to send someone, we will decide the name and tell them. It is not that we are boycotting or that we are not going." On the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee said that whatever decision the Centre takes to combat terrorism and to protect the national interest of India, the TMC will stand with the Union government 'shoulder to shoulder.' "I am saying this very clearly that whatever decision the Union Govt takes, which aims at combating terrorism to protect the national interest of the country, TMC will stand with the Centre shoulder to shoulder. We do not have a problem with any delegation going..." he said. However, he reiterated West Bengal CM's statement and said that from TMC who will go in the delegation is the party's decision. "Which member of our party will go in the delegation is the decision of my party. The Centre or the Union government cannot decide who will go from which party unilaterally... Which member of TMC, DMK, Congress, AAP, and Samajwadi Party will go in the delegation should be decided by the party itself," Abhishek Banerjee added. #WATCH | Kolkata, WB: On being asked if TMC has opted out of the Centre's multi-party diplomatic mission aimed at countering Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee says, "I don't know from where you got this information.
