Public transport wing employees union to stage protests on July 4, 5
Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (AP PTD) Employees Union on Monday announced their decision to stage a State-wide protests on July 4 and 5, in support of their demand for promotions to lower-level employees. In a statement, the union's State president P. Damodar Rao and general secretary G. V. Narasayya said: 'On July 4 and 5, employees across 129 depots and four workshops will participate in lunch-hour gate meetings and dharnas, wearing red badges, during duty hours.' The merger of the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the government in 2020 had raised their hopes for a fair deal, but over the last six years the employees continue to wait for promotions. They said that many eligible employees had retired without promotions and several attempts by the union to draw the government's attention to the issue failed to yield any result. The union leaders also demanded payment of arrears of 24 months related to the 11th PRC, clearance of the pending DA arrears and raised 30 other long-standing issues demanding their immediate resolution.
