Honor Magic 7 Pro gets access to Android 16 Beta 3 and test run, and see what this new OS feels like on their phones. The company put out a detailed guide for developers and advanced users who'd like to test out the new software. Honor cautions that this is not for general users and says that there's a low probability of the phone restarting in some scenarios once it is updated. Honor announced today that those with an Honor Magic 7 Pro device will be able to experience Android 16 Beta 3 as it has been made available for developers. In an email to Android Central, the company added that the HONOR Magic7 Pro is one of the first phones globally to support this preview. The company added that this Android 16 Beta 3 preview will give developers early access to new features and performance of the OS, firsthand. It will also give them access to new APIs and tools that could help developers fine-tune the user experience before the stable version of the OS is officially launched later in June. That said, it should be noted that Pixel phones are currently on Android 16 Beta 4, but this is the first Android 16 beta version available for the Honor's Magic 7 Pro. "This marks another milestone in HONOR's close collaboration with Google. HONOR was also among the first to roll out Android 15 Beta 1 in 2024 for the Magic 6 Pro and Magic V2," the company said in an email. Furthermore, in a detailed post, the company laid out steps for developers to safely upgrade their phones. And if you are a general user, the company recommends that you wait until the official stable launch of the OS later this year. Developers who plan on installing the Beta version can do so through Honor's official page, which has the upgrade package uploaded onto the website. All that you need to do is download the corresponding upgrade package based on your device. Make sure adb, Python environment, and Honor Suite are available for PC. Secondly, developers need to have more than 60GB of space on their phones. Following this, go to Settings > About phone, tap Build number seven times to enable developer mode, then go to System & updates > Developer options to enable USB debugging and connect the device to PC via USB cable. The next steps are detailed in Honor's blog post. Lastly, the OEM notes that this upgrade will not erase any data, and recommends that you back up your phone beforehand. "The upgraded new system adopts a brand new user partition, which is not shared with the original one, and the data of the original user partition is unavailable on the new system," the company added.

Google Is Adding a Battery Health Menu to the Pixel 8a, but Not the Pixel 8 Pro

Google has confirmed that its new Battery Health menu, first seen in Android 16 Beta 3, will only be available on the latest Pixel 9 series and the last released Pixel 8 device, the Pixel 8a, as reported by Android Authority. The company says that this tool will not be available on older Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro—which were released just a few months before the Pixel 8a and are flagship-level phones, unlike the 8a. This means that users of these earlier models will not be able to check their battery's health using Google's own system. The Battery Health menu can be found in the Settings app on supported devices, given that they are running the latest Android 16 beta. As the name suggests, it gives users information about their phone's current battery capacity as a percentage of its original level. It also gives tips for extending battery life, such as turning on Adaptive Charging or limiting the maximum charge to 80%. This tool has been a standard part of iPhones since 2018, even on older models like the iPhone 6, but Google's version will only be available on its newest hardware. Overall, Google made a bad move. I hope they implement it soon, or at least specify exactly why the feature works in the budget device but not the flagships.

Google rolls out Android 16 Beta 3.1 patch with crucial bug fixes

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Google is rolling out an Android 16 Beta 3.1 update that includes no new features and instead focuses on bug fixes. The minor beta patch features a fix for a problem that caused the Settings app to crash and brightness levels to fluctuate. Additionally, Android 16 Beta 3.1 includes performance and stability improvements. Nearly a week after rolling out the platform-stable Android 16 Beta 3 update, Google is fixing a few issues with a new Android 16 Beta 3.1 patch. As announced on the Android Beta Program subreddit, this update is becoming available for enrolled devices now and carries a version number of BP22.250221.013. Android 16 Beta 3.1 does not include any new features, but rather includes four critical fixes, two of which that were reported by beta testers on Google's Issue Tracker. Among the issues fixed, the biggest one might be a problem that caused the system Settings app to crash under specific circumstances. Reported under Issue #403303683, this problem caused repeated Settings crashes when a device's language was set to something other than English. Another problem caused the screen brightness of devices running Android 16 Beta 3 to switch between app-specified brightness levels and system brightness levels. This bug was reported via Issue #392522561, and has been fixed in Android 16 Beta 3.1. Android 16 Beta 3.1 now available! from r/android_beta Android 16 Beta 3.1 also includes fixes for two issues causing performance problems on devices enrolled in the Android beta. One problem resulted in excessive battery drain due to high CPU load, and another occasionally caused memory leaks in the system server, according to Google. The update features all the changes and new capabilities introduced with the initial Android 16 Beta 3 release, which marked the first time Android 16 reached platform stability. That includes Auracast support for wireless hearing aids and accessibility features for people with low vision. Android 16 Beta 3.1 will become available automatically for Google Pixel 6 and newer devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program. The update is being rolled out over the air, so it'll appear in Settings > System > Software Update when available. To enroll your Pixel in the Android Beta Program, visit Google's official beta website.

Android 16 may finally reveal your Pixel's battery health

Google has been developing an iPhone-style battery health menu for Pixel phones for at least a couple of years now. Like on iPhones, the feature would let you view your Pixel's battery health and determine if a replacement is necessary. Despite years of work, though, Google has yet to roll out this feature. But it now seems that the long-awaited battery health menu may finally debut with Android 16, as the feature has gone live in the latest beta release of the OS. The Battery health menu was also part of Android 16 Beta 2, though activating it required some digging with the code. That's not the case in Android 16 Beta 3: you can access the menu on your Pixel 9 from Settings > Battery > Battery health (via Android Authority). While I can see the page on my Pixel 8 Pro running Android 16 Beta 3, it does not show battery health or the estimated remaining capacity. Based on replies to a post from Android expert Mishaal Rahman on X, the feature seems to work only on the Pixel 9 series and, strangely, the Pixel 8a. This indicates that even if Google officially rolls out the Battery health menu with Android 16, it could be limited to selected Pixels. Besides showing the battery health, the menu also provides quick access to articles that can help extend the lifespan of your Pixel's cell. These include support articles for updating your phone to the latest software, turning on adaptive charging, avoiding extreme temperatures, and turning off unwanted features. Below that, you'll find a Charging Optimization option, where you can enable Adaptive Charging or set your Pixel to charge only up to 80%. With Pixel phones slated to receive seven years of updates, Google should allow users to view their device's battery health. This will help them take proactive measures to extend its lifespan and seek out a replacement when needed. Typically, this becomes necessary when the battery's capacity drops below 80% of its original charge. Google took its time introducing the option to limit your Pixel's battery charge to 80%, finally rolling it out in November 2024 after months of testing. The company may follow a similar approach with the Battery health menu, meaning it might not debut with Android 16's stable release in Q2 2025, even though it appears nearly complete.
