Residents report citrus odor from kratom plant
WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents of several communities in the northern part of the Wyoming Valley say they are being plagued with a citrus-type odor they say is emanating from a business in their area. Officials from West Wyoming and Wyoming borough filed citations against the company, KB Crash Creations, in West Wyoming. The company specializes in making Kratom extracts. Anti-gang efforts in NEPA target youth
PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — As gang-related crimes continue to be seen across Northeastern Pennsylvania, an effort is underway to try to prevent young people from joining gangs in the first place. A Luzerne County man who had fought against gangs across the country and our region is taking the anti-gang effort to first through third-graders. Crews called back to Plymouth Township fire Jim Marinello authored a children's book that brings gang awareness to very young kids in a way they can relate to and understand. We will take a look at the book, its message, and talk with the district attorneys from Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, who talk about what they are seeing when it comes to young people joining gangs and the negative consequences of being in a gang. Despite light turnout, voters value local elections
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Voter turnout in Luzerne County is reported to be very light, which is not out of the ordinary for local elections. The ballot this Primary Election Day includes races for school board seats, judgeships, township supervisors, city and county council, and several referendums. Scammers threatening to shut off people's electricity
(WBRE/WYOU) — Tonight, officials are warning about a utility scam that is showing up in northeastern Pennsylvania. It involves a threat to shut off the electricity to a person's home or business because of a supposed delinquent account. The scam callers claim to be from PPL Electric Utilities and say payment must be made immediately or the power will be shut off. 28/22 News wins big at the PAB Awards
(WBRE/WYOU)— We are very proud of several members of the 28/22 News team who were in Harrisburg Friday for the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) Awards Ceremony. Reporter Julie Dunphy and chief videographer Tony Ingargiola won for a series of reports on 'Scranton Gang Violence'. Our public affairs program, Newsmakers, and hosts Jayne Ann Bugda and Andy Mehalshick, along with director Matt Gronski took home an award for outstanding public affairs program for a show on 'Community Solutions to Gang Violence'. The I-Team's Andy Mehalshick along with videographers Tony 'Ingy' Ingargiola and Paul Davis won for an I-Team report 'School Bus Close Call'.
