Girlfriend squeals on boyfriend involved in ‘rentangay' modus
Authorities have arrested a man allegedly involved in stealing vehicles using the 'rentangay' modus in Las Piñas City after his girlfriend reported him. In Emil Sumangil's exclusive report on '24 Oras' on Monday, alias 'Lawrence' was supposed to meet up with his girlfriend when the police arrested him. Despite resistance, the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) successfully brought Lawrence to Camp Crame. He was taken into custody under an arrest warrant for multiple charges such as carnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and violation of the Anti-Fencing Law. According to the police, Lawrence allegedly engaged in a 'rentangay' modus, a scheme where the car thief rents a vehicle but doesn't return it. 'We are appealing kung kayo'y naging biktima ng taong nito, narito ang HPG para mag assist at para matulungan ang ating mga kababayan na madagdagan pa ng kaso para sa taong nito,' PNP-HPG spokesperson Police Lieutenant Nadame Malang said. (We are appealing to the victims of this person. PNP-HPG is here to assist you in filing charges against him.) Meanwhile, Lawrence told GMA Integrated News that he could not believe that his girlfriend snitched on him. 'Natakot siya na madamay (she was afraid of getting involved),' Lawrence said. He also admitted that he has been using illegal drugs and appealed to the victims to withdraw the cases filed against him. 'Pa rehab na rin ako. Nagulat ako. Kung papayag siya na aregulahin, mabalik yung motor, aregluhin po namin,' Lawrence said. (I'm willing to undergo rehabilitation. I was caught off guard. If the victim is willing to settle and get his motorcycle back, we will return it.) —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
