Myleene Klass saves stranger's life while volunteering at Brighton Pride
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Myleene Klass has praised the 'awe-inspiring' St John's Ambulance after she saved a man's life at Brighton Pride. As the Sugababes sang their headlining set at Preston Park at the weekend, the presenter burst into action behind the scenes. In a clip posted to social media, Myleene, 47, shared 'You can probably hear the Sugababes are on in the background, and I've just helped save a life.' The former Hear'Say star has been an ambassador for the charity since March 2024 and was volunteering over Pride weekend when she helped the festival-goer. Myleene had to perform a 'jaw thrust' as part of a first response unit, which is a technique designed to clear someone's airways. The move involves lifting the lower jaw forward, displacing the tongue and helping them breathe again, although she was unable to give any more details. 'I cannot divulge what happened with the patient, what the circumstances are but what I can say is I am utterly blown away and just to have been a small part of it as well,' she said. 'I actually just had to do the procedure that is known as a jaw thrust – that gives you an indication as to how serious the scenario was. The patient is on their way to the hospital right now.' Myleene first got involved with St John's Ambulance in 2021 with their Ask Me campaign and has volunteered over the years after being trained by the team. 'It was honestly awe-inspiring seeing how St John Ambulance operated. We have doctors and paramedics,' she shared. 'Everyone is here. Everyone just did their bit.' In her caption, she continued to praise the 'extensive professional expertise' of the volunteers, calling them 'exceptional'. 'You said afterwards you were 'just doing your jobs' but as SJA volunteers, that's not entirely true,' Myleene wrote. 'You were following a calling on your 'day off' which saved a life and immeasurable heartache for the patient's family and friends.' More Trending The Sugababes headlined the Sunday night at Preston Park, bringing hits like About You Now and Push the Button. Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy reunited under the band name a few years ago and have performed at the likes of TRNSMT, Kendall Calling and Glastonbury since. None other than Mariah Carey also took to the stage for 'Britain's biggest Pride event' after being announced as the headliner in 2020 but the entire festival was axed as Covid lockdown began. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas dares Google to pick a side as AI browser battle heats up
In a fiery Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session, Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas didn't hold back in his assessment of Google's future, or lack thereof, in the evolving landscape of AI-powered web browsing. As tech giants race to redefine the internet experience with smarter browsers and agent-driven search, Srinivas suggested Google's reliance on ad-based search could soon become its Achilles' a looming shift in how users interact with the web, Srinivas painted a picture of a future where digital agents handle everything from browsing to decision-making. That, he argued, leaves little room for Google's tried-and-tested business model that revolves around showing ads and racking up clicks. In his words, Google will face 'business model constraints' when it comes to letting AI agents 'do the clicks and work for you', all while maintaining high ad Google's own moves in the AI browser space, such as the internally developed 'Project Mariner', Srinivas said their progress is hampered by an inability to let go of legacy monetisation strategies. In what could be interpreted as both advice and warning, he remarked, 'At some point, they need to embrace one path and suffer, in order to come out stronger.' Srinivas's company, Perplexity, is taking the fight straight to Big Tech with its offering, Comet, an AI-native browser launched on July 9. It's currently only available via invitation to users of Perplexity's premium plan, which costs $200 (approximately Rs 17,230) per month or $2,000 (approximately Rs 1,72,300) per year. A free version, however, is in the pipeline. And now, Airtel has also announced a new offer for its customers across India, giving them complimentary access to the Perplexity Pro subscription plan for one CEO Aravind Srinivas subtle dig at GooglePerplexity's pitch is simple: let the browser do the heavy lifting — searching, comparing, summarising — so humans can focus on decisions, not digging through a dozen tabs. This agent-first approach, Srinivas believes, is the future. But it's one he says Google is reluctant to fully embrace, because doing so would undermine the ad model that generated $198 billion in search revenue alone last contrast to Google's scale, Perplexity is a scrappy upstart with a lean team. Leonid Persiantsev, Comet's product lead, said the team is kept deliberately small to remain agile, a subtle dig at what Srinivas characterised as Google's bloated bureaucracy. 'Too many decision makers and disjoint teams,' he wrote, calling out what he sees as an organisational sluggishness holding Google Perplexity owes a debt to Chromium, the open-source browser engine maintained by Google, the company insists it is building with a different priority: users, not also revealed that the company initially underestimated how willing people would be to pay for a browser experience free of intrusive ads and distractions. The early demand for Comet's premium tier, he said, proved that 'people are ready to pay for utility and independence.'The Perplexity chief also touched on the inevitability of being copied by larger players. At a Y Combinator event in June, he noted, 'If your company is something that can make revenue on the scale of hundreds of millions of dollars or potentially billions, you should always assume a model company will copy it.'Indeed, Srinivas expects Google to pay close attention to Comet and eventually replicate its features. He pointed to Project Mariner as 'similar but quite limited,' suggesting that innovation at Google tends to be reactive rather than head of communications, Jesse Dwyer, echoed that sentiment in a statement to Business Insider, saying bigger firms not only borrow ideas but 'do everything they can to drown your voice.' He added that the so-called 'Browser War III' could end poorly for users if monopolistic tactics from 'everything companies' prevail the shots fired, Srinivas was magnanimous in at least one regard. He acknowledged that without Chromium, Comet wouldn't exist. But even so, he said Perplexity is betting on a different vision, one where AI agents serve people, not profit models.'Enough of the monopoly of Google,' he said. - Ends

Cabin crew lists two 'annoying' things passengers always do before take-off
Every flight starts with a safety demonstration, but one ex-cabin crew member says passengers who ignored the advice would "annoy" her before the plane has even taken off A former cabin crew member has lifted the lid on the common behaviour of passengers who have just boarded a flight - and how it makes flight attendants feel. In an Ask Me Anything thread on Reddit, a social platform, the poster who said she was a former Emirates worker, invited questions from the public on a range of issues. One person asked about the in-flight safety advice and how passengers sometimes disregard it. They said: "While announcing the safety tips / regulations, do you guys get angry or irritated when someone doesn't look or pay attention? Or you just don't care? Usually on many airlines, a short video is played to the cabin, while the crew demonstrate how to inflate a life jacket, use the attached whistle, and where the oxygen masks fall in the event of an emergency. They also point out the emergency exits and what to do if they need to be used. But as many may have experienced, not everyone pays complete attention - and that includes reading the often-laminated safety cards tucked into seat pockets. The unnamed air hostess said: "We have a safety video but of course we get annoyed when we are securing the cabin and the passengers still have their seats down or window blinds down." Passengers are often reminded that their seats cannot be reclined nor can their tray tables be left down during take-off and landing. Additionally, they must ensure their seat belts are fastened and their window blinds open. Window blinds must remain up with full visibility until the aircraft is in the air, or has touched down, so the crew can see any potential issues or obstructions and alert them to the pilot immediately. Blinds can of course be closed once the plane is in mid-air for passenger comfort. Seats also cannot be reclined until the aircraft is in the air. According to HuffPost, reclined seats give less protection and can obstruct an aisle in the event of a quick evacuation. As for tray tables, the reason is similar - if they are left down in the event of an emergency they can cause injury and make evacuation harder and slower. They could also cause injury if the aircraft is forced to stop abruptly. While many people are getting themselves settled in their chairs as the safety demonstrations go ahead, the cabin crew often gives the rows a quick once over before take-off to check if these things have been done. They may also ask to see your seatbelt if it's covered by a blanket or clothing to ensure everyone is strapped in.

How will Liverpool celebrate winning the Premier League?
The final weekend of the Premier League season will be one of celebrations for Liverpool and their fans after the Reds claimed their 20th English top-flight title. The party will begin on Friday, 23 May at the LFC Foundation's gala, where funds will be raised to support the club's charity. Former manager - and LFC Foundation honorary ambassador - Jurgen Klopp will be in attendance alongside club legends. Liverpool then face Crystal Palace at home on Sunday, 25 May - their last match of a successful debut campaign for manager Arne Slot. After the match, the Reds will lift the Premier League trophy surrounded by fans - a contrast to the 2020 trophy ceremony, which was held behind closed doors because of lockdown regulations. That evening, the players are set to enjoy a private party at a nightclub in Liverpool. The following day, they will embark on a victory parade from 14:30 BST. "A Liverpool victory parade is more than football - it's a celebration of our city's pride, passion and community spirit," said Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council. The parade will follow the same route as celebrations in 2019 and 2022. It will start on Mather Avenue and follow a 15km route from the southern suburbs to the city centre. The bus will travel along Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street and The Strand and finish on Blundell Street. The parade is expected to last 3-5 hours, but is subject to change. The club will pay for the full cost of the parade. Liverpool won the Premier League in 2020, after a 30-year long wait for a league title. Celebrations, however, were scaled back because of lockdown regulations. The Reds lifted the trophy in middle of The Kop - in front of a near-empty stadium - with just their family and friends, and staff members in attendance. Seats, instead of being filled with dedicated fans, were adorned with flags. This article is the latest from BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team.
