How will Liverpool celebrate winning the Premier League?
The final weekend of the Premier League season will be one of celebrations for Liverpool and their fans after the Reds claimed their 20th English top-flight title. The party will begin on Friday, 23 May at the LFC Foundation's gala, where funds will be raised to support the club's charity. Former manager - and LFC Foundation honorary ambassador - Jurgen Klopp will be in attendance alongside club legends. Liverpool then face Crystal Palace at home on Sunday, 25 May - their last match of a successful debut campaign for manager Arne Slot. After the match, the Reds will lift the Premier League trophy surrounded by fans - a contrast to the 2020 trophy ceremony, which was held behind closed doors because of lockdown regulations. That evening, the players are set to enjoy a private party at a nightclub in Liverpool. The following day, they will embark on a victory parade from 14:30 BST. "A Liverpool victory parade is more than football - it's a celebration of our city's pride, passion and community spirit," said Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council. The parade will follow the same route as celebrations in 2019 and 2022. It will start on Mather Avenue and follow a 15km route from the southern suburbs to the city centre. The bus will travel along Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street and The Strand and finish on Blundell Street. The parade is expected to last 3-5 hours, but is subject to change. The club will pay for the full cost of the parade. Liverpool won the Premier League in 2020, after a 30-year long wait for a league title. Celebrations, however, were scaled back because of lockdown regulations. The Reds lifted the trophy in middle of The Kop - in front of a near-empty stadium - with just their family and friends, and staff members in attendance. Seats, instead of being filled with dedicated fans, were adorned with flags. This article is the latest from BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team. Sheff Utd vs Sunderland - who will wear red and white stripes at Wembley?
Sheffield United will wear their home kit for the 2025 English Football League (EFL) Championship play-off final on Saturday, 24 May at Wembley Stadium. Both teams traditionally wear red and white stipes. However, as the Blades (3rd) finished a place higher in the league, they were given first choice. Sheffield United told BBC Sport that they will be wearing their traditional home kit, black shorts and black socks. Sunderland have confirmed they will wear their white, navy and green away kit, featuring a retro badge on Saturday. The Black Cats' away kit pays homage to their 1992 FA Cup final appearance. How is the European NFL schedule decided?
There are "tonne of different factors" that go into the planning of the NFL schedule in Europe, said the NFL UK head Henry Hodgson. There are 32 teams in the National Football League, split into two conferences. Each team plays 17 games across 18 weeks of the regular season. The teams use a total of 30 stadiums in the US, but they can sometimes be unavailable because of concerts and other events. When planning for NFL games in Europe, the regular uses of the stadiums have to be considered too. "You've got soccer teams who will factor into it," Hodgson told BBC Sport. "So you're looking at Fifa windows when there are games being played internationally." There is also the task of ensuring broadcast partners in the US get a fair share of games, as well as factoring in the levels of interests for different teams. There are partnerships with stadiums in the UK, specifically the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium. The NFL has a deal with Tottenham, until 2029, to use the stadium's bespoke American football pitch for games. Hodgson said: "We work with them on an annual basis to make sure that we're tied in with them on when those games can take place." The Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, hold a relationship with Wembley Stadium for match events. "We work with those two stadiums and then other stadiums around Europe on a regular basis," Hodgson added. Matches for the 2025 season will also be held at Croke Park in Dublin, Berlin's Olympic Stadium and Madrid's Bernabeu as well as the Corinthians Arena in Brazil. Who are the new Match of the Day hosts?
Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan will host Match of the Day from the start of the 2025-26 season. It is the first time the role will be shared between three people, and they will split presenting duties for Match of the Day 2 on Sundays and MOTD: Champions League on Wednesdays, as well as Saturday's flagship show. Kelly Cates has had a a 27-year career in football with stints on all major broadcasters, including the BBC on Radio 5 Live. She previously hosted 606 with Ian Wright on Sundays. Cates - whose dad is former Liverpool and Scotland legend Sir Kenny Dalglish - has been presenting Premier League football for Sky since 2017. She will also continue to work for Sky Sports. Mark Chapman, known as 'Chappers', has been hosting MOTD2 since 2013. He also presents a range of sports programming on BBC Radio 5 Live including the Monday Night Club and 606. He's hosted various sporting events for both BBC TV and radio. Chapman also presented Sky Sports' coverage of the Carabao Cup. Gabby Logan first joined the BBC in 2007 and has presented many sporting events, including men's and women's World Cups and European Championships, the Six Nations and Olympics. Since 2013, Logan has co-hosted BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Her father is former Wales and Leeds midfielder Terry Yorath. Match of the Day, which is the longest-running football show in the world having launched on 22 August 1964, has had five previous long-term hosts: Gary Lineker (1999-2025) Des Lynam (1988-1999) Jimmy Hill (1973-1988) David Coleman (1967-1973) Kenneth Wolstenholme (1964-1967) Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Alex Scott, Jason Mohammad, Kelly Somers, John Murray and Steve Crossman will continue their roles on MOTD. "It's really great to share it because we bring different experiences and different interests within the game," said Logan. "We bring different ways of broadcasting and that will mean our pundits are kept on their toes and share different kinds of analysis." Chapman said: "People might find this hard to believe but there's absolutely no competition between the three of us. We'll do a mix of everything that works for us all as individuals, and all of us are really keen that it's fair. "Not only is it a great role just on its own but I'm sharing it with two people I really admire, respect and genuinely like. It's a great set-up," said Cates. Is a guard of honour mandatory in football?
No - there are no rules that mean clubs are obliged to do one. A guard of honour is an informal gesture made by a team to acknowledge the success of another - typically in a match after they have won a title. It has become a tradition, especially in the Premier League. The champions will walk between two parallel lines of opposition players, who applaud them on to the pitch before the game takes place. Often a guard of honour can be given to an individual player or manager, for their dedication to their team or sport. The first notable guard of honour took place in 1955, when Manchester United provided one for Chelsea after they won their first league title. In 1991, United made the gesture for Arsenal, who had pipped Liverpool to the title. Moving into the Premier League era, United themselves were given a guard of honour by Everton at Goodison Park in May 2003. Some champions have had multiple guards of honour in the same season. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side were given the guard of honour seven times after securing the 2019-20 title during the Covid-hit season, while Manchester City had four after then won the league in 2017-18. Yes. Rangers did not give Celtic a guard of honour before the final Old Firm match of this season. Barry Ferguson, a former Rangers player and now interim manager, said "it has never happened in the past". Spanish clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid have also not given a guard of honour to each other on several occasions. Barcelona did not acknowledge Real's 2017 Club World Cup victory, and in turn then Real boss Zinedine Zidane refused to do acknowledge Barca's title win. There have been some awkward moments in the Premier League. Manchester City's Bernardo Silva chose to hold drink bottles in both hands rather than applaud Liverpool in 2020. And in 2013, Robin van Persie returned to Arsenal for a guard of honour as a Manchester United player - to be met with boos from home fans.
