Massachusetts police issue warning as ‘Senior Assassin' game returns

SHARON, Mass. (WWLP) – A police department in Massachusetts sent out a warning as a game that has become a popular annual tradition for high school seniors, known as 'Senior Assassin,' gets underway. The game is played in advance of graduation, where senior students use water guns, or other safe 'weapons' like Nerf guns, to eliminate their assigned targets from the game by squirting them with water. The last student standing who avoids being eliminated typically wins a prize and bragging rights. Springfield discards 600 pounds of unused prescriptions While it is meant to be all in fun, the live-action game comes with safety concerns for law enforcement. The Sharon Police Department said on Monday that they do not condone this game and are committed to keeping residents informed, ensuring safety. If you are planning to play, here are some safety tips from the police: Do not play the game on school property: Any game that disrupts the learning environment is not acceptable on campus. No look-alike weapons: Realistic toy weapons, including water guns that resemble firearms, are prohibited on school property and in the surrounding community. Respect private property: Do not trespass onto or into others' properties. If you are asked to leave someone's property, please do so promptly and without confrontation. Use brightly colored water guns: To help ensure that your toy is easily identifiable, use brightly colored, non-threatening water guns. Avoid hiding in dark or secluded areas: Carrying anything that could be mistaken for a firearm, including toys or accessories, or hiding in dark places is a recipe for disaster. No masks or camouflage: To avoid alarming the public, do not wear masks or camouflage clothing, as these can make it difficult to distinguish between a harmless game and a potentially dangerous situation. If approached by law enforcement, do not run or hide: If you are approached by the police, remain calm, and explain that you are participating in a game. Clear communication can help avoid confusion and potential escalation. In Florida this year, law enforcement held a news conference to talk about the dangers of 'Senior Assassin' after a Jacksonville high school football player was shot by an off-duty officer while the teen was playing the game. Fortunately, the student was not seriously hurt. Danny Dyer's 'worst movie in the history of the world' has fans absolutely obsessed

As Danny Dyer gears up for his appearance on ITV's new interview series The Assembly this Saturday, April 26, we're taking a stroll down memory lane to revisit some of the lesser-known highlights from the ex-EastEnders star's filmography. Labelled by some as "the worst film in the history of the world", yet cherished by others who deem it a "very underrated, brilliant movie", Assassin is a contentious pick when discussing 'hidden gems'. Released straight to DVD in 2015, Assassin stars Danny Dyer and features the Kemp brothers, Gary and Martin Kemp, as well as Holly Weston, Robert Cavanah, and Deborah Moore. Helmed by director J. the plot of Assassin follows Jamie, a contract killer tasked with eliminating a crooked official. Complications arise when Jamie falls for the daughter of his target, whom he has already dispatched, reports the Mirror . As she starts to unravel the mystery behind her father's death, Jamie finds himself needing to shield her from the gangster siblings who commissioned the hit. Critics largely dismissed the movie, which sits at a lowly 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and scores just 3.8/10 on IMDB. Dyer's film managed to strike a chord with a number of viewers: "Low budget as it was, Assassin was never going to be the best movie ever made. A poor man's Bourne Identity? Maybe not, but certainly a gritty, London underworld version of it. The plot was interesting, and while it had to be taken with perhaps a grain or two of salt, it was engaging and exciting all the way through. Assassin is a far better spend of your time than another Hollywood superhero movie any day." One particularly enthusiastic audience review praised the film, saying: "Brilliant movie, very underrated and I don't really understand why people dislike it so much. The acting was great and the storyline was interesting and suspenseful. The movie obviously didn't have a huge budget but for what it accomplished it was fantastic. Great gritty thriller." Critics haven't been as kind to The Assassin, however, with one calling out Dyer's repetitive on-screen persona and acknowledging his potential: "Dyer doesn't so much go through the motions in the role as plead with the audience to save him the bother and recall the motions from last time. He's undoubtedly a talented actor – Harold Pinter cast him twice – but it gets harder and harder to keep the faith each time he trots out the gruff hardman routine that's on display here." One critic didn't hold back, describing Assassin as "crashingly dull" and remarking: "Danny Dyer's hard man whizzes to and from his assignments on a high-powered motorbike, but this crashingly dull low-budget British crime thriller couldn't be more pedestrian." Similarly harsh feedback came from viewers, with one brutal assessment reading: "Probably the worst film in the history of the World. Danny Dyer (professional cockney geezer to the uninitiated) plays the eponymous role, and he plays it in a bizarre, understated way, possibly in an attempt to show he has some sort of range. He doesn't.. Aloof and cool is the presumed intention, but in Dyer's inept hands the character is sullen, sulky and oddly camp." The same review continued to lambast the film: "The plot is predictable, the gangsters are staggeringly stupid and the dialogue - it is so utterly detached from any kind of reasonable reality that it made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. I cannot for the life of me work out how a film like this gets made - I can only assume it was for a tax write-off." Another viewer's succinct take was: "Dear, oh dear, oh dear! Reasonable storyline but what dreadful acting! Dyer at his best - which was awful." Yet, not all reviews were entirely negative, with one person offering a more measured perspective: "Danny D is an institution, one doesn't watch his films to be intellectually challenged, he needs a good writer and director." Fans of Danny Dyer can catch him in the series premiere of ITV's The Assembly, set to air this Saturday, April 26, at 10:05pm on ITV1. Assassin is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Danny Dyer's 'worst film in the history of the world' fans can't get enough of

Danny Dyer's Assassin has been dubbed 'the worst film in the history of the world' by some viewers, but is absolutely adored by some who call it a 'very underrated, brilliant movie'. With Danny Dyer all set to appear on ITV's new interview series The Assembly this Saturday, April 26, we're taking a walk down a Danny Dyer-shaped road and remembering a few more hidden gems from the former EastEnders actor's movies and shows. Featuring a very loose interpretation of the phrase 'hidden gem', Assassin has been dubbed 'the worst film in the history of the world ' by some viewers, but is absolutely adored by some who call it a 'very underrated, brilliant movie'. ‌ With a direct-to-DVD release, the 2015 film features Danny Dyer and the Kemp brothers, Gary and Martin Kemp, alongside Holly Weston, Robert Cavanah, and Deborah Moore. ‌ Directed by J. K. Amalou, Assassin tells the story of Jamie, a hitman who has been hired to kill a corrupt official. However things start to go horribly wrong when he ends up falling for the daughter of his intended target (after already killing said target). With Jamie's love interest putting herself in the path of danger as she begins to question the death of her father, Jamie now has to protect his lady from the two gangster brothers who hired him in the first place. The movie was generally panned by critics, receiving 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and 3.8/10 on IMDB. However, Dyer's film resonated with many viewers: 'Low budget as it was, Assassin was never going to be the best movie ever made. A poor man's Bourne Identity? Maybe not, but certainly a gritty, London underworld version of it. The plot was interesting, and while it had to be taken with perhaps a grain or two of salt, it was engaging and exciting all the way through. Assassin is a far better spend of your time than another Hollywood superhero movie any day.' Another glowing audience review of the film says: 'Brilliant movie, very underrated and I don't really understand why people dislike it so much. The acting was great and the storyline was interesting and suspenseful. The movie obviously didn't have a huge budget but for what it accomplished it was fantastic. Great gritty thriller.' Many were still generally negative about The Assassin, with one critic's review of the film calling Dyer a 'talented actor' stating: 'Dyer doesn't so much go through the motions in the role as plead with the audience to save him the bother and recall the motions from last time. He's undoubtedly a talented actor – Harold Pinter cast him twice – but it gets harder and harder to keep the faith each time he trots out the gruff hardman routine that's on display here.' ‌ Another critic calls Assassin 'crashingly dull' and added: 'Danny Dyer's hard man whizzes to and from his assignments on a high-powered motorbike, but this crashingly dull low-budget British crime thriller couldn't be more pedestrian.' Audience sentiment towards the film follows a similar track, with one scathing review stating: 'Probably the worst film in the history of the World. Danny Dyer (professional cockney geezer to the uninitiated) plays the eponymous role, and he plays it in a bizarre, understated way, possibly in an attempt to show he has some sort of range. He doesn't.. Aloof and cool is the presumed intention, but in Dyer's inept hands the character is sullen, sulky and oddly camp. 'The plot is predictable, the gangsters are staggeringly stupid and the dialogue - it is so utterly detached from any kind of reasonable reality that it made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. I cannot for the life of me work out how a film like this gets made - I can only assume it was for a tax write-off.' ‌ While one review simply reads: 'Dear, oh dear, oh dear! Reasonable storyline but what dreadful acting! Dyer at his best - which was awful.' Another viewer perhaps sums up the movie in the most balanced way: 'Danny D is an institution, one doesn't watch his films to be intellectually challenged, he needs a good writer and director.' Danny Dyer will be seen in the series premiere of ITV 's The Assembly, slated for broadcast this Saturday, April 26, at 10:05pm on ITV1.

Police warn about 'Senior Assassin' kids' game

New York State Police are warning families to be careful around a new children's game. The Clinton County Sheriff's Office has issued a public safety alert about a high school activity known as 'Senior Assassin,' which, while meant to be fun, is raising serious concerns. The game involves teams of high school seniors using toy weapons or water guns to 'tag' or 'eliminate' each other in a tournament-style format. It often takes place in public spaces, residential neighborhoods, or during early morning or late night hours, the news release said, with students sometimes wearing dark clothing, masks, or hoodies to avoid detection. 'This game has raised significant safety concerns due to its potential to be mistaken for real criminal activity, putting participants, bystanders and law enforcement at risk,' officials said. CAN APPEAR SUSPICIOUS Authorities warn that 'the use of realistic-looking toy guns and suspicious behavior has led to dangerous misunderstandings across the nation.' One such misunderstanding in Florida led to a student being shot by an off-duty officer who believed the teen was a home invader. Locally, law enforcement has 'received reports of concerned citizens observing lurking in yards or near homes, prompting calls to law enforcement.' 'These situations place officers in the challenging position of responding to potential threats without knowing whether they are dealing with an actual crime or a game,' the release said. 'We understand that students want to enjoy their senior year and have fun. However, when young people are sneaking around with objects that resemble firearms it creates a recipe for tragedy.' SAFETY RISKS The sheriff's office is urging families to consider several risks: 'In an age where school violence is ever-present and creates anxiety and fear, these actions can compound concerns and prompt swift responses by law enforcement.' Toy guns, even those with bright markings, can be mistaken for real firearms, especially in low light conditions or high stress encounters, the release said. 'Behavior such as hiding in bushes, wearing masks, or chasing others in public can alarm residents and lead to police intervention.' The release noted that Trespassing, Reckless Driving, Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Criminal Mischief, Burglary or brandishing what appears to be a weapon could result in criminal charges or unintended confrontations with armed citizens. Parents were encouraged to talk to teens about the dangers of 'Senior Assassin' and encourage safer ways to celebrate their senior year. Students are asked to think twice before participating, and residents are reminded: 'If you see suspicious activity, please call 911. Do not assume it's just a game.' 'As a reminder we are not here to stop kids from having fun,' the release added. 'We are here to ensure everyone makes it home safe.'
